Lawsuit against father in death of mother

Do I think this is a troll?

::yes::

I agree. Pretty sick topic to troll over though. My sympathy on the loss of your parents if it is real.

Interestingly enough I was reading an article yesterday on some of the recipients of the 9/11 fund and how they still have been unable to spend or plan for the money they received as compensation - "blood money" was used more than once. One woman said just the thought of the bank account makes her sick, but she knows she has to do something with it for the sake of her children.

No this is not a troll post.

Yes the attorney contacted me and the wheels are turning on this action already. I was just interested in what people thought.

While I respect everyones feelings, I am going ahead with the action and hope for a good settlement. Yes, I would rather have my mother alieve than the money. Though I can not bring her back and the money comes in handy.

I am 46 years old.

How sad for them :( :(

So, what would you consider a good settlement?

Okay, I said I was done here, but just had to ask:

Chubroach, you said that you would rather have your MOTHER alive than the money.

How 'bout DAD?

MTE. Somehow I don't think that he/she cares about his father since he plans on smearing his name and suing his estate just so he can profit some more money from him.

How does any attorney even know the ins and outs of the case with out telling them first?

Sounds to me like there was a beef between the OP and the father. I noticed you said you would like to have your mother back but you didn't mention your father. Is this some way to get your last digs into him or something. Seems to me you didn't care that he passed. I would think if you did you would have mentioned him and you wouldn't be doing this to the deceased. Its just not morally right!

Do you want someone to agree with you so you can clear your conscience or something since you've already decided to go ahead with this action? That's the only reason I can imagine why you would ask such questions. I would never try to make a profit off the tragic death of a loved one. It's one thing to receive a settlement from their estate, it's another to try to profit off such a tragic accident . :( It's not just about the insurance company or the insurance claims, this is about your father and your mother. :(

Just a last word of advice. The money will not help you. In fact, it will likely do the opposite. Good luck.

I'm sorry, but I'm not believing one word of this.

It's too sick to even think that it might be true :(

My dad did not take my mom to the doctor even though he could plainly see the lump on her breast.

Would I sue him???

Not in a million years.

I'm not going to make a "profit" from a personal tragedy.

It's sick.

Generally speaking, lawyers are not permitted to contact and solicit individual clients. If a lawyer hears about a horrific crash, he might send his business information to the surviving family members. but in most cases, cold calling someone and asking them if they want to file a lawsuit is usually a disciplinary offense. I'd hazard a guess the lawyer was not the one who initiated the conversation.

Sad that at 46 you can't see right from wrong. Do you have children of your own?
You've already received money from this but that's not enough? Do you work or is this how you survive? I think your friends are afraid of how you will react if they disagree with you.
I'm truly sorry for your loss-really I am. I'm also sorry you have this desperate need to get as much money as you can out of this tragic accident.:(
I truly thought this was a troll-I wish I were right.

Forgive me for speaking my mind here but you asked for our opinions and that is just mine.

Now after a significant investigation, it was determined that my father was 100% at fault in the accident for driving through a stop sign right into the path of the semi truck. A personal injury attorney has contacted us and has told us we have a case for the wrongful death of my mother.

When I read the original post, this part really stood out to me. I don't think there would be any way for the lawyer to find out the results of the accident unless they had permission from somebody in the family which means the OP would have had to make the original call to the lawyer and give him permission. Am I right? Can any attorneys collaborate?
The whole thing seems a little fishy to me.......

When I read the OP post I had to read it twice as I thought it was a quote from a newspaper. Then I realised that the OP was the son who had lost his parents " a few months ago". The complete void of emotion and the fact that the "money will come in handy" is quite simply staggering.

Perhaps the OP is suffering from delayed shock and does not realise the lack of any morality in his proposal. I would rather he was a troll as its easier to deal with.

I am sad for the OP, he may regret this for a lifetime. :(

Like Arabella Figg said, you can be subject to disciplinary proceedings for contacting and soliciting potential clients in situations like this. There's a fine line that you must walk. My husband usually gets personal injury cases by word-of-mouth (one of his former clients recommends him to a potential client) or it's a referral from another attorney who doesn't handle that type of case.

"Significant investigation" sounds like an accident report conducted by the traffic authorities or prepared by an insurance company analyzing liability. Access to this varies from state to state, but it appears to me that an attorney likely couldn't get his/her hands on this without authorization from, say, someone preparing to file a lawsuit.

And let's go all the way back to the first sentence of the original post: "Here is an interesting question related to a tragic situation."

I realize everyone grieves differently, but this sounds like someone reporting the news, rather than LIVING the nightmare of losing both parents in a single day.

Just answered my own question....you do not have any children of your own.....

"My wife and I do not have kids, nor have any interest in having any in the future. Though I do have an observation about people (especially women) who have children:

The kids control and dominate their life and make them boring people!

The people I meet who seem to be interesting intellectual individuals do not have kids. These are the people who care about learning about the world around them, read interesting non fiction books, magazines and newspapers and like to talk about current events. They are involved in the community.

The women who have children like to talk about one thing- THEIR KIDS. It seems like they have any one interest- their kids. Conversation with mothers is boring. "Oh, Johnny has been sick" "Did I tell you that Johnny has had trouble in school?" "Johnny has wants a new pair of tennis shoes" ON AND ON."

This is from a thread of his on the Debate Board.

If you are what you consider to be "interesting intellectual individuals" I'd much rather hang out with a bunch of BORING mothers!!!!;)

Kim

antkim, I remember that thread!

That explains a lot. . .

And I'm one of those boring mothers/breeder types; can I hang out with you since I'm obviously not intellectually stimulating enough for the OP?

omg I had to sit through the 8th grade awards ceremony wich was so boring! It was 2 hours and a half long!

!SCHOOLS OUT!

Sure Sandy!! What kind of boring things do you want to talk about? Is Johnny sick? How'd he do in school this year?.... :rotfl:
