We are moving to The Triad (NC) in a few months.

Thinking of getting a lawn service for grass cutting and leaf removal.

I have NEVER used such a service. It seemed like many people did when we were driving around down there. Is it the norm?

How much do you pay? How often do they come? Do you enjoy having it? Worth it?

Any other suggestions would be appreciated:goodvibes

Not in NC, but we paid $35-$40 week for basic services. Some of our neighbors pay as much as $80 for the same service, same yard size - so you have to shop around.

Spring and Fall cleanups are extra, but we do that ourselves. We bought a lawn tractor last year as my oldest son is now old enough to handle that responsibility. I travel too much in those months to be counted on for that...

We don't use a service but our neighbors pay $35. They come every 7 to 10 days depending on the weather. Once a week but if it's been rainy and the lawn is soupy they'll wait a few days. My MIL lives in Fayetteville and I'm pretty sure it's about the same.

I think we pay about $1600 a year for everything - yard, fertilizing, spring and fall cleanup, for our 60 x 110 lot.

We have a guy come every Wednesday year round. My wife pays him once every month. Not sure how much.

Should have mentioned lot size - about 2 acres, lawn about 1 acre...

Not sure if it applies but our HOA has included leaf pick-up in our dues. We are responsible for getting them to the road but an outside service picks them up once a week.

Also, two neighbors pay my oldest $20-25 per week to mow.

I'm in TN, so not sure how COL compares...

We pay $25 for our neighbor's son to cut/weed our yard (almost 1/2 acre), but those that use a 'service' for the same thing, same size yard pay about $50 for a professional service. But our neighbor's son does just as good a job :goodvibes.

I would say for more than an acre, you are probably looking at the $80-100 range, depending on whether weeding is included with mowing. And that is per mowing...so usually per week.

we pay $45 per week and have a 1/4 acre yard. I think that is pretty good price for our area;)

Pretty much everybody in my neighborhood uses a yard service. Ours come weekly & mow, weed, fertilize & general clean-up weekly, year-round for $200 per month. Normal, small suburban lot with front & back lawn.

Same here, in NC, I pay $35. per week for a half acre lot. He cuts, trims, and blows everything, even along the street area. Will throw in somthing extra at no charge if I request it (ie. weed whack the natural area when the oak seedlings come up from all the acorns the squirrels buried and forgot about, lol).

He's been my lawn guy for several years and I'm pretty sure he charges me a bit less than the newer client neighbors. He's also very good and very dependable. I only get charged for the weeks he comes (I'll pay a month in advance and adjust as necessary if there's been a lot of rain or whatever). In Dec. I pay for 4 weeks but he only comes the first two, the rest I leave as a tip for the year (but then he always does some extra for me by blowing the leaves out of the front beds and mulching them up).

In the fall it's $200. for aeration, overseeding and fertilizing, but then there's a break for a couple of weeks as the grass starts to grow. Overall I think we get a great deal (especially on those hot summer days!).

Try to get someone who does the work personally and not someone who hires a bunch of others to come. I've noticed my neighbor's crew doesn't do nearly as good a job on the trimming. Plus I get pretty diamond shaped patterns in my lawn...it looks like a baseball field!!

In CT, about 1.5 hours north of NYC, so a fairly expensive area, my neighbor paid $40 for lawn cutting of relatively small lot...maybe 50x100.

We pay $75/week. Our front/back yards are not that huge but are very formal and require a lot of pruning.

My lawn service consists of the dog poop being cleaned up.....costs $12.00 per week........best $12.00 I spend!

Here, lawn services are a dime a dozen and cost is based on size of the yard.

We are quarter acre--with a pool in the middle.

I pay $80 per month year round. They do cut less frequently between Dec and Feb (biweekly), the rest of the year is weekly. It is cutting, edging and blowing (clippings off of the driveway).

Trimming of bushes and such would be extra.

About $40 every couple weeks for yard blowing, cutting and edging on a .4 acre lot. Its worth it in terms of the time we save and we don't need a mower and other yard things taking up space.

1 acre $60. Just the basic edging and cutting.

I live in Los Angeles, and get weekly service. I'm on about a 1/4 acre lot with a large backyard & medium frontyard. Grass mowed & edging every week, and about once every 2-3 months all the overgrowth gets cut back. I pay $65/month.

We pay $45 a month for mowing, trimming, edging and blowing. This time of the year they don't need to come very often, but we pay twelve months each year (it all balances out). They are very good and sometimes we pay for extra things like mulch and new shrubs. There are a lot of different landscapers working our neighborhood and they seem to all be priced about the same, but ours is by far the best we've seen. Many simply zip through and miss a lot. It does pay to shop around, though.

We pay 100 a month year round. You wouldnt believe how many companies I went thru before I found a super reliable one but we have had these guys for over 10 years and they do several houses on our street. In summer they come once a week and in winter not as often. They mow edge and blow and weed eat and then every once in a while they do a more thorough cleanup at no extra charge. Our yard is above average size. They also go in the fenced pool deck area and blow that off. This is a company with a team of guys that go thru everyones yards like gang busters. I think thats probably the way to go if you can. When we hired individual guys they seemed to have a problem with showing up consistently.
