Day Two - Magic Kingdom (arrr, there be pirates)
Me - Laur's - 27 - jumping up and down with excitement
DH - Andy - 27 - still cool, but excited too
I should firstly mention that being from a family of people who love their beds as I am, means not a lot of early mornings at Disney (shock, horror!). Also, that we are both lucky that our body clocks adjust quickly to Florida time. I usually wake up in the middle of the night on the first night, totally excited, and say something bizarre to Andy (examples of this include - "I'm ready to be a Disney princess now - on our first trip to Florida, and "Oh my God, I'm in the Hard Rock hotel - last year). I was therefore amazed that I slept until 7.30 am! Body clock really is adjusting itself quickly now.
We went down to the Pop food court for some breakfast. I got a pancake platter (not chocolate chip - it was just a little bit too early for that, though it has been known) and a waffle platter for Andy. He pulls faces watching me pour maple syrup over not only my pancakes but also the bacon and the sausage that looks like a burger (brain very confused by this).
We head out to the Magic Kingdom. We ummed and aahed before we left home about whether this was a good idea (it is Easter Saturday after all) but I knew I wouldn't be able to wait any longer to be "home". We arrived at 9.30 am and headed straight over to Splash Mountain intending to get fast passes (last year was the first time I was brave enough to ride this - and now I can't get enough!) and were amazed to discover the absence of the usual mountain bottleneck in Frontierland. This meant that the queue for Splash was only 20 minutes, so we decided to join the queue. Surely this is too easy? Oh yes. After about a 10 minute wait, the ride broke down (this was a recurring pattern which I can only put down to the volume of people moving through the parks) and it was around 30 minutes before it was up and running again. Definitely worth the wait though, I adore this ride.
I love the smell of the Magic Kingdom in a morning!
After Splash, Andy said he had heard people talking about going on POTC. I was sceptical at best, and thought they were just not aware that this ride was closed down for months. Then Andy pointed out that there was nothing on the map about it being closed either. Curiouser and curiouser. So we head over to POTC, and lo and behold, it's open!! I literally whoop with joy, do a crazy little dance and start my usual "arr, there be pirates" and Andy does "we wants the redhead" (i.e. me! My mum, who is also a redhead got totally freaked out by this at DLRP!) The ride was great as always, and we couldn't spot anything that looked different or any part of the ride that wasn't open. Had a mooch round the shop after as I had promised myself a pirates top on this trip, found a great vest, but stupidly didn't buy it (more on this later, luckily it worked out in the end).
After this we did Haunted Mansion (I have to try really hard to be po-faced on this ride, as I got told off for giggling by a CM at Halloween!) and Philharmagic, which is Andy's favourite attraction in MK. We got a fastpass for Winnie the Pooh, which is my favourite, and then went for some lunch at Tomorrowland Terrace Noodle Station. We had lovely chicken noodle soup bowls - but made the mistake of having one each, one would have been enough for us both! We could sort of see the parade from where we were sat, which was a magical bonus.
After lunch we did WTP, Buzz Lightyear which I was disgracefully terrible at, and had a ride round on the TTA which we hadn't done since our first trip. I had forgotten how interesting this was, to be honest, I didn't remember how it went inside the rides and shop, as well as being great to rest our aching feet. I decided that perhaps one day I might be brave enough to ride Space Mountain (did I also mention that I am a complete wuss?!) The other bonus of the TTA was that we saw Stitch out for photos, so we rushed down so I could have a cuddle.
After that, Andy decided (quite rightly, I might add) that I was ready for a rest - I have the irrestible urge of must do everything, must see everything NOW, but this tends to wear me out pretty quickly (not that I would admit to this). We headed back to the Pop after that and went to the shop with the intention of buying postcards. What we found instead were very cool letters, a bit like those party invites you can get where most of the stuff is written in for you and you just fill in the blanks. What was even better about this was that you got stickers to fill in the blanks, which turned postcard writing from a chore into a real laugh. We went back to the room and filled these in and got them ready to send off in no time. Had a quick shower and then headed back out again.
On the way out from the Pop, we stopped at the tattoo stand so that I could have a Tink tattoo, which has become a bit of a tradition. I have kind of promised myself a real one as a 30th birthday present, so this is just a practice! I got the sassy one.
We arrived back at MK around 7.30 pm and headed off to have some tea at Pecos Bill Cafe. I had a chicken wrap with fries which was gorgeous and huge, and Andy had cheeseburger and fries, and we shared a diet coke. I had a real banging headache and of course no painkillers on me, so we decided to head to the first aid station to enquire if there was anywhere we could buy paracetamol as I didn't want it to spoil my enjoyment of Spectro and Wishes which I had been looking forward to so much. I tried to remember the American word for paracetamol, but as it was two years since I was told this (when I had acute sinusitis in Florida) I couldn't really remember. Luckily the really nice CM knew what I was raving about, disappeared for a minute, asked me to sign the guest book, and came back with two packets of paracetamol, two to a packet - two for now and two for later. I was really impressed. Luckily, I never needed the second pack, my headache cleared up soon after.
We went to get a FP for Winnie the Pooh, and then headed over to get some ice cream before Spectromagic. I love the ice cream shop on Main Street (don't know the name, I'm afraid) and always have cookie swirl. We usually get ice cream and then watch the parade from just outside the shop. You can still see almost everything without having to stake out your spot in advance. Unfortunately, just as the parade was starting an obnoxious family turned up and stood right by us - they were screaming at each other for at least half of it. Other than that it was magical as always!
After Spectro, we did Winnie the Pooh again, and got a FP for Buzz to use after Wishes. This was incredible as always, and yes, as always, there were tears. We stood on the bridge to Tomorrowland to watch, I like this spot, it's quite busy, but you can move, and I have a good view of Tinkerbell (who I really honestly didn't think was a real person until last year!)
A quick ride on Buzz (still pretty dismal scoring from me) and a trip on the TTA (nice in the dark) to rest our feet before making our way out of the park. We arrived back at the Pop around 11.30 with enough time for me to grab a frozen Pina Colada before heading to bed. We were fast asleep by 12.30 pm.
