Laurie's Quest Continues....two more marathons in one year!!

So awesome that your legs felt good today!! That's a great recovery after a long run like that. Have a blast tonight watching your DBF play hockey!

Go #48...back to back!!

Have a great week.

 GREAT job on the run Laurie! I'm so happy that you are feeling good today!!!! Wow...super effort! And that pace is still REALLY good! I'm with you...when I stopped stressing over the pace I started to enjoy running a whole lot more! Great attitude. You're going to have a wonderful marathon experience. I can't wait to see where everyone is corralled. I'm really hoping to catch up with you during Marathon weekend.

Also...maybe we can run a few miles together here one of these weeks. I know your mileage is different from mine....but we could run together for part of one of our long runs. It sure does get lonely out there with the big mileage. Send me a pm with your upcoming LRs and we'll see if we can work something out :). I'd love to hang with you for a few!!!! :goodvibes Also...if you prefer to run alone I'm totally cool with that too! I just thought it might be neat since we run in the same place! :)

Once again CONGRATS on a very successful weekend.

OK...and I know I'm being ignorant...but...what's the significance of #48??

NASCAR fans often refer to their favorite driver simply by the number of the race car that they drive...

Today my favorite driver clinched back to back season championships :) Jimmie Johnson #48

(ok ok...so I haven't watched a NASCAR race in years...but i live in the South..and if you live in the south, you have to have "a number")

:cheer2: FANTASTIC Laurie!!! I'm so happy for you that you had successful long run! 17 miles is amazing!!! Great job!!! :cheer2:

Hope you have a great day!!!
Stacie

Wow Laurie! You did a great job with your 17 miler!:thumbsup2 That's wonderful that you're not sore afterwards. :goodvibes You are gonna rock that marathon!:cheer2:

Sending some :wizard: that your marathon packet comes today.

Have a great Monday!

Well...the plan was to head to the gym tonight and hop on the good ole' TM for 5 miles!!! Well, I decided to eat dinner tonight before going to the gym...well that was a REALLY BAD IDEA!! I usually just eat a little snack and then do my run right after work, and for whatever stupid reason I had tonight, I didn't do that. Well, my stomach just didn't agree with what I ate, and I only made it two miles on the TM, and had to call it a day. I guess I learned my lesson about eating dinner before running...won't do that again.

Still sad...no marathon race packet yet! I was so excited to get home from work to check the mail to see if it had come today...but when I got here...NO PACKET!! Oh well, maybe tomorrow.

Scott--Yeah, Yeah...Jimmie Johnson won again...I am not really happy about that, but he deserved it. I am a HUGE Dale Jr. fan, so I was a bit disappointed this season. Oh well, there is always next year!

Amy--I definetely want to get together and run a few miles together at some point. The next two weeks probably won't work, since Thanksgiving is this week, and next weekend, I will be in WDW!! :cool1: :cool1: But, when I come back from WDW, I definetely want to meet up to run a bit.
Oh, and as for the NASCAR deal...I love #8...Scott is right, everybody has a favorite number.

Stacie-Thanks for stopping by! I was definetely psyched after finishing 17 miles!!

Tracy--No packet again today..can you send some more :wizard: !!! :rotfl2:

Tracy--No packet again today..can you send some more :wizard: !!! :rotfl2:

You got it, Laurie!:wizard: :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: :wizard:

I'm with you on the not eating a full meal before a workout.... When I do a full workout in the morning, it has to be on an empty stomach or I have a very hard time getting through the workout. Great job getting those two miles in!:thumbsup2 Hope you're feeling better today.

Have a great Tuesday!:cool1:

Well, not so good day here for me today! my stomach was feeling better, but I am EXHAUSTED today for some reason. It was quite rainy here today and a bit cold, so I was already dreading my workout. I hate going to the gym to run on the TM, and on days like this my motivation has a lot to be desired. Since, I have had to do 2 TM workouts in the last week, I was not looking forward to another one. After work, I came home, and I could barely keep my eyes open, so I took a nap. When I woke up I just couldn't get myself up to go...so I skipped the workout.

Tomorrow, we only have a half day of school, so I will be home around 12:30...so I am going to do my 8 miles tomorrow.

Tracy--Thanks for the :wizard: !! Unfortunately, no race packet again. :sad1: Oh well, maybe if I stop thinking about it, it will actually come!

Hey Laurie!!! Yeah, I've learned popcorn is not too good for me before a workout! lol!

I have a TM at home, but never use it! It's there just in case, but I'm getting used to do my training outside and I think I do prefer that.

Hope your 8 miler goes well today! I working ALL day!!! ugh! Enjoy your 1/2 day at work!!! :)

Stacie

Well, I had planned on doing 8 miles today, but had to stop at 6 miles due to darkness. I got home early today, but I was again exhausted, so I fell asleep for a little bit. By the time I woke up, it was after 3 and I had to get ready to go still. So, it was almost 5 and it was getting dark when I got to 6 miles, so I decided to stop.

I hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving! I will be heading to my sister's house to see my two nieces and my nephew...can't wait to see them!!

This weekend, I will be doing an 18 mile LR...YIKES!!!! Not as excited as last week's run, but we shall see what happens. Then I get to start packing for WDW!!! :cool1: :cool1: We leave a week from Friday and since I never have time to do things during the week, I will have to pack this weekend. And, I want to finish putting up all my XMAS decorations!! So, it will be a busy weekend for me!

Hello Laurie!

Just wanted to stop by and wish you and your loved ones a very Happy Thanksgiving!!

You've done an awesome job with your training...you are going to rock that 18 miler this weekend! And then you get to go to WDW?? Geesh, I'm so jealous!

Have a great day!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING LAURIE!!!!

I hope you are having a lovely day with family :).

Good luck on the 18 mile run. I'll be out there on Sunday...this week is a scheduled 14 mile LR.

Take care :)

I hope everyone had a great thanksgiving! Yesterday was a long day, DBF and I started out heading to my sister's house to see my family. We had an early dinner with my family in Central Jersey, and then headed back up to North Jersey to see his family, and EAT again....YIKES!!! We ended up not getting home until almost midnight! That being said, I decided not to do my 18 miler this morning, so I could get some rest. The weather looks good for tomorrow so I will be heading out bright and early tomorrow for my 18 mile LR.

Since I am off today, i am going to finish putting up all my Xmas decorations and tree, and then I am going to relax and do some scrapbooking, which I have not done in ages!! Might as well take advantage of some free time!!!
I actually thought about going shopping, but decided against it, as I hate going shopping when it is sooooooo.. crowded, and I have no idea what I am getting everyone, so I bagged that idea really quick!

I hope everyone has a great day!!!!

Hi Laurie,

Sending some :wizard: your way for your 18 miler today. You CAN do it!:cheer2:

We leave for WDW next Saturday! I am excited, but cautious since we will be with my DH's family for part of the trip. I haven't even started packing yet. (Usually, I'm done packing for our annual trip before the Christmas tree goes up on Thanksgiving Day.) I bet you're getting so excited for your trip!:woohoo:

Have a great weekend!

Well, let's just say I finished the 18 miles. It was not pretty at all...quite honestly, it was very discouraging for me. I jogged the first 13 miles, and then it went downhill from there. My right knee started hurting A LOT, the same pain that I was feeling in my left knee a few weeks back. It got to a point where I just couldn't run anymore, but I could walk with no pain. This pain only seems to show up when I run. So, I spent the last 5 miles, mostly walking with short bouts of jogging as I could tolerate. By the end of the 18 miles, I was starting to feel like I really am not going to be able to do this marathon. 26.2 miles is sooooo far, and I could barely jog 13 miles today. I know I am just feeling down right now, but today's run really has me down about this whole thing. And I am starting to doubt my ability to finish the marathon. I will do it, and I know inside that it is not going to be easy, but today's run was just really tough.

I was thinking of a couple of things after my run this morning....first, doing a 17 mile LR last weekend and then an 18 mile LR this weekend was tough...next week I have a pull back week (good thing since I will be in WDW, and probably won't get much running in) and the following week is 19 followed by a pull back week and then 20 the weekend before xmas....I am thinking that the pull back week in between each of these really LR's may be best.

Secondly, I am thinking I need to go get another knee brace to wear on the right knee now. I have felt no pain in my left knee since I started wearing it a few weeks ago, so hopefully the pain in my right knee will subside if I wear one there too, since it is the same exact pain. I am not too thrilled about wearing two knee braces, but if it makes the pain go away to get through the marathon, I will do it.

Ok, now that I have posted way too long a post...I am going to go rest, and try to keep myself busy so I don't worry about the marathon too much.

Thanks so much for stopping by and reading my journal...you have no idea how much the encouragement means to me!!

Laurie - I've been lurking on your thread, enjoying following your progress toward the WDW marathon. I'm currently preparing for my first marathon in February (I'm aching to do the WDW marathon, but can't pull it off this year - maybe 2009!), having done 4 half marathons, but never having had the guts to try a whole. Try not to feel too bad about your run today. You've been running for long enough to know that some days you just have a real bad run. For me, they are almost always followed by a good run, which is always very reassuring. Some days everything just clicks right on a run, and some days nothing does. Don't get discouraged! Hang in there and enjoy your step-back week next week (I just started one today - only a 9 mile long run this morning). Now, I don't know anything about your knee, but I do know that sometimes you just have really bad runs and you just have to keep on going. I do think it's true that bad runs really teach your body something and therefore are not all bad, even though they feel like they are at the time! Plus, you should take great pride in the fact that you finished all 18 miles, especially feeling as bad as you were - that's really impressive!

Rest tomorrow and then get back out there! Good luck with the rest of your training!

Leslie

BIG  Laurie!!! Please don't get discouraged. I know it's so hard when you're faced with brutal runs like the one you had today. Listen...the pull back weeks are crucial and running back to back LRs like you just did can really put a huge strain on your body. Here's my advice....enjoy WDW...get some short runs in and let your body recover. Enjoy the *hopefully* warm weather...let your body heal..have fun. Don't stress...trust me...I know you WILL complete the marathon. Here's the other thing. I have 16 miles scheduled in 3 Sundays (I'm doing 14 next week....8 the following week...16 the following sunday). Let's try to schedule it so we run a portion together. I could use the company...and I think it will help you too. We can do whatever pace is best for whoever is feeling worse that day LOL! Could be me...could be you...maybe we'll both feel great. But I'd bet some company for a good portion of the run would be a help. It's lonely getting those miles in out there in the cold...trust me I can relate. And a little moral support would help. Think about it. :) I'm here for ya' !!!

I know it's tough..just know that I'm completely confident that you have it in you to complete the marathon. But think of it this way....the main thing is to get to the start healthy. That may mean not getting all those miles in. Doesn't matter...if you can run 14, 17, 18 you can run 26. That's the fact. You have the mental ability to do this...and basically after the half marathon point it's ALL mental. Try not to beat yourself up! You got the miles in girl!!! HUGE HUGE congrats for toughing out a really rough run.

PM me about running together. Trust me...I could use the company too ;).

Laurie, don't lose confidence in yourself. I think it's natural to have tough runs as the mileage gets up there...and thoughts of not being able to finish 26.2 will certainly creep in....but you are very well prepared and I agree with you in thinking that the pull back week in between the next long runs is a great idea. Should definitely help you recover a lot better.

You've done a great job and have nothing to be discouraged about. Just think of how cool it's going to be getting that Mickey medal right after crossing that line in January :) I have full confidence that you can do it.

Keep up the great work...and keep your chin up.

 Laurie,

I know that yesterday's run was not what you wanted it to be, but you finished the whole 18 miles. That is an amazing accomplishment!:thumbsup2 Just think...Over the past two weekends, you have run 35 miles! That is wonderful, Laurie! You have been doing an awesome job with your training and I know that you will do a great job at the marathon!:cheer2:

Rest, relax, enjoy your pull back week, and have fun getting ready for WDW!:woohoo:
