Laurie's Quest Continues....two more marathons in one year!!

My goal this week is to really get back on track with my training. Although, I did get some workouts in, I have been really inconsistent the last few weeks. Since, I am off this week before I go back to work next week, I figure I really need to get back on track.

Yesterday, I went out for a 2 mile run at a 10:19 pace. Then, today, i went out for another 2 mile run at a 10:31 pace. I also played a hockey game last night and I have another one tonight.

So far so good, although I am a little worried since I start my "official" marathon training program in a few weeks, and I am worried about the first long run that is 8 miles!!! So, we will have to see how that goes.

Thanks to everyone for checking in on me!! This is such a great group!!!!

Tracy--you are right about going back to school next week, I think that will help me get back into a better routine!!

Laurie -

Welcome back!! Good to see that you at least got some workouts in over the last couple weeks and that you are back at it this week :) When is your 8 miler?? You may want to build up to it if you can by doing some progressive long runs to help prevent any injury....We started our marathon training this week...isn't it exciting!!! Good luck with everything...hope your day goes well.

Hey everybody! Today, I went out for a 3 mile run. I am trying to work back into my regular routine little by little. Today I felt great, unlike Monday and Tuesday when I felt really sluggish....so I feel like I am going to be OK!! My pace was 10:06 overall, which is great for me these days.

I also decided to get back into my regular schedule of running in the afternoons. I go back to work next week as school starts again, so I will have to run in the afternoons. Since I had to go into work to get things organized and take care of a few things, I decided to wait until I got home to run, and for some reason my legs felt so much better today. I don't know if it had anything to do with running this afternoon though.

Scott--My 8 miler isn't until Sept. 15, so I have time to work up to that. I think I will be ok, I just am going to take the next couple of weeks to work up to that.

OK, gotta get back to watching the Rutgers Football game!! GO SCARLET KNIGHTS!!!!!

Sounds like you're doing a great job, Laurie! Keep up the good work!:cheer2:

Have a nice weekend and a great first day back to school next week!:goodvibes

Hi Laurie,

I am new around here, and I was just checking out your journal. Great job getting back into the swing of things. If PM runs work for you, I'd say if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Good luck with your training.
Beth

Yesterday, I went out for a sort of long run. I ended up doing 5 miles. The plan was only 4 but I felt good so I walked another mile to make it 5. When running, my pace was just over 11 mins. which was what I was aiming for.

Today will be a rest day, as DBF and I are headed to the Yankees game. We are not big Yankees fans, but we got free tickets, so we can't pass those up!!!

I will try to get a run in tomorrow morning before heading to my sister's house for a family BBQ. The plan is to get up early and get a run in!

Tracy and Beth--Thanks for stopping by!! The encouragement is often what keeps me going these days!!

Hi Laurie!!! So glad to see you back here  ! And you are doing great with the training you posted this week. Sounds like you have a solid plan....I just can't believe we are into serious training now! I will definitely be seeing you on the trail :thumbsup2 . I'm heading out there tomorrow for my 7 miler. Luckily we don't have to hit the big miles for another month.

Take care and have a nice holiday weekend. Big week for you next week for sure with school starting. Good luck on your run this weekend!!!

Laurie -

Nice 5 miler there!! I hope the game was fun!! Even if you aren't Yankee fans, I bet just being in that stadium with all of the history surrounding it was a great experience.

Good luck with the workouts this week!

Hope you have a great holidy weekend :)

Hey everybody---I hope everyone enjoyed the long weekend! I sure did, since it is my last weekend of my summer vacation--yikes!! Tomorrow, I go back to work, we have a professional development da and then the kids come back on wednesday! I am definetely excited, but I can't believe how fast the summer went!!

Yankees game was AWESOME!!! We got to sit in a luxury box right behind home plate!! It was amazing.....all you can eat food and drink! For me, that wasn't that big of a deal, but my DBF was in heaven! And it was a pretty good game as well, and the Yankees won!

Yesterday, I spent the day at my sister's house with my family and my two nieces and nephew. My nephew starts kindergarten this week, so it is so cute!! He is sooooooo excited about going on the school bus to school, it was hysterical!

Today, I went out for a 3 mile run at a 9:58 pace! I felt great, and I wasn't really that tired afterwards!!!!!

Tomorrow the plan is to do a 4 mile run.

Wow!! Box seats behind home plate in Yankee Stadium?? All you can eat food and drink?? That is incredible!! I'm glad it was a great time...kind of hard not to be with that set up ;)

Good job with the runs too :) Looks like you are jumping right in to some solid training.

Sorry to hear that summer break is over...hope your 1st week back is a good one.

Sounds like the Yankees game was a blast!:thumbsup2

How did your first day of school go? The summer has flown by so fast!

Great job on the 3 miler! Keep up the good work!:cheer2:

Hey everybody! Today I went out for a 5 mile run, and felt pretty good for a change. I finished in just over 51 min. First 3 miles were 10:17, 10:46, and 10:51. Then, I guess I sped up because my last two miles are 9:59 and 9:44....and at the end I wasn't really that tired! I guess that is a good sign!

Today was the first day of school for the kids, I realize how much I love my job when I see the kids on the first day every year. They were soooooo.... excited about being back at school. I can safely say that I truly LOVE my job!

ok...gotta go rest for DAY 2 of school!

I will try to catch up on everyone's journals later today or tomorrow!

Hi Laurie,

I'm glad to hear that your first day of school went so well. :goodvibes I hope your second day goes well too!

Great job on your run yesterday! Keep up the good work!:cheer2:

Have a great Thursday!:goodvibes

Well, after a hectic first week back at school, I was really excited about my LR this morning. I headed out early before it got too hot and humid for a 7 mile run. I finished in 1:13. Here is the breakdown for miles:

1: 10:29
2- 10:49
3- 10:40
4- 10:36
5- 10:47
6- 10:31
7- 9:55

I am very happy with my run, I felt great!! I took one GU shot before leaving home and then at the half way mark, I took another one. I did have to stop briefly once to fill up my water bottles again, because I forgot to bring my extra water bottle for after my run, and I knew my small bottles would be empty at the end of my run, so I made a pit stop to refill a couple for after my run.

Well, my "official" marathon training program starts on Tuesday!! :cool1:
I am excited but part of me is a little scared about this journey that I am going to take. I know inside that I can do it, but sometimes I think about 26 miles and say to myself, "how am I ever going to go that far". So, I think it is going to be a very mental process for me!!

ok, gotta go get some work done for school...I am coordinating an after-school program in my school, and I have a bunch of work to get done this weekend. What a way to spend my saturday!! Then tomorrow I am going to Six Flags Great Adventure, with my family for the day! I am really excited about that!

Tracy---Thanks for stopping by and as always, Thanks so much for the encouragement!

Hi Laurie!

GREAT RUN!!! Wow...awesome times posted. Did I see you out there this morning?? I was out running 8 on the trail yesterday too. I thought maybe once I might have seen you but it's been a while since we said "HI" LOL! :)

I was out there at 10 am.

Anyway...super job girl!!! :thumbsup2 Your training is off to a great start!

Hi Laurie!

Nice run!! And how exciting to be beginning your official marathon training on Tuesday!!! I can't wait to watch your progress and then read your post-marathon report on how awesome and successful your race was :) If you ever want any real reports on what it's like out there during the race, just let me or Amy know :)

Good job with everything....have a great night! (thanks for the support in my journal too...i appreciate it!)

Great run, Laurie!:thumbsup2

Today is the day you start marathon training, right? You are gonna do a great job! I look forward to hearing all about your progress in the weeks to come.:goodvibes

Hope you have a great Tuesday!

Well, today wasn't such a good day for my training. I should have planned ahead knowing today was Sept. 11th and do my 3 mile run yesterday and taken today as a rest day, but I didn't think ahead. Sept. 11th is always very difficult every year, since I lost two of my best friends that day in the towers. I always think it is going to get easier each year, and it never does. I tried so hard to run three miles, but my mind was just in another place. I went about a mile and just stopped. I always keep in mind that tomorrow is another day, and I will get my workouts in tomorrow!

I have decided to just push everything back a day, so I can still get all my runs in this week. I am going to get out there tomorrow for a 3 mile run, then 5 on thurs., 3 on friday...then my 8 mile LR on sunday.

Thanks to everybody for your support..it is greatly appreciated!

I promise to catch up on everyone's journals tomorrow, I am just not feeling up to it tonight.

:grouphug: I'm so sorry Laurie. This is such a tough day around the country and particularly for those of us right here who lost so many friends, neighbors and loved ones. I can't imagine how difficult it must be for you each year having lost two of your best friends :sad1: . That is particularly tragic. I always find myself very melancholy on 9/11....several neighbors and aquaintances were lost that day and I always think of their children and spouses who have had to carry on without them :(.

Hang in there sweetie. You were smart to reflect today and not push yourself with the training. Putting things off a day won't hurt a thing...it's truly ok to shift the schedule around when necessary. Tomorrow is a new day...and hopefully the gray skies and rain will lift and you'll have a good run. I'm thinking of you tonight. Be well  .
