Laurie's Quest Continues....two more marathons in one year!!

Hi Laurie!

I hope you had a great weekend :). I bet the concerts were fun!!! :cool1:

Great job getting that 6 mile run in earlier this week. The heat was so rough...any pace is good in my book :). Just getting out there in the summer weather is a victory! :thumbsup2

Hey everybody!! Just wanted to give an update, especially since I haven't checked in in awhile!!!!

Last week was an OK week for training--not my best but definetely not my worst!!

Last monday was the Tim McGraw and Faith Hill Concert so I didn't get any training in at all. BUT, the concert was great!!! DBF and I had a blast!!!

Tuesday, we had a hockey game so I didn't do any running since our game was so early.

Wednesday: I was exhausted, and unfortunately I didn't do any running. I had really wanted to but I just couldn't do it.

Thursday: I ran 3 miles with an aver. pace of 9:52. That was a pretty good run for me. That night I also played hockey in a clinic and my team's practice. So a lot of exercise for thursday!!

Friday: No running--my back was really sore from hockey the night before so I just couldn't do any running.

Saturday: DBF gave me a new Garmin Forerunner 201!!!!!!!! My birthday is tomorrow but he gave it to me early so I could use it on my LR on Saturday. I did 6 miles with an aver. pace of 10:11. I just bought some GU shots, which I have never used before, and I took one before going out for my run. I felt great for my whole run, and I love my new Garmin!!!!!

Saturday night we went to Mohegan Sun Casino in Connecticut to see Rascal Flatts.....all I have to say is that they were AMAZING!!! IF you like country music, you must go see Rascal Flatts, they were awesome. I am actually trying to get tickets to go see them again in Atlantic City in August...I can't wait!!!! :cool1: :cool1: :cool1:

Sunday was a complete day of rest, and today I play hockey so no running.

The plan is to run the next 3 days and really get back on track in my training.

Tracy--Thanks for the birthday wishes!!

Amy--Thanks for stopping by! I figure if I can train in this weather, I can train in any weather right?!?

:cool1: HAPPY BIRTHDAY LAURIE!!! How awesome to get your new Garmin! What a thoughtful gift :goodvibes . Glad the concerts were so wonderful!!! Sounds like a lot of fun. Have a great week of training!

Sounds like you had a super busy, but fun week last week!:goodvibes That's great that you got a Garmin for your birthday!:woohoo:

I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed all of your concerts as well.:goodvibes

Hope you have a great week!

Well, unfortunately, I don't have much training to report on.

On monday night, I fell during my hockey game and hurt my back. It isn't that bad but it is sore, so I have had to take it easy the last few days. On Tuesday, it was my birthday so DBF and I went out for dinner.

On Wednesday, I did try to go out for a 4 mile run, but ended up walking most of that because my back was hurting while running. It didn't really hurt while walking so I finished out the 4 miles.

Today, I had planned to go to the gym to do the elliptical, however, that just doesn't look like it is going to happen. So, I have to get something in tomorrow.

Thanks to everyone for stopping by!!!

Well, I ended up getting to the gym after all, I decided I just had to go, so I stopped what I was doing and went. This is really the mentality I need to get in. And when I got there, I felt great.

Since my back has been sore, I didn't want to run, so I did 15 min on the elliptical and 15 min on the bike. I realized that I like the bike more than I thought I would, I have never been a real fan of riding the bike but I actually enjoyed it tonight.

On tap for tomorrow will hopefully be a 4 mile run. However, if my back is sore, I will head to the gym for some more elliptical/bike XT.

Hope everyone has a great night!!

 Laurie,

I hope your back is feeling better soon. Great job getting to the gym!

Have a great weekend!

Well, the last few days have been pretty good for me.

On Friday, I decided to run at a new location. I went to a reservation near my mom's house. It is a 1.3 mile loop, and is QUITE hilly!!! I only ended up doing two loops since it was a new course for me. I finished the two loops in just under 30 mins. I think I want to continue running at this new location at least once a week, since it makes for a GREAT hill workout, being that there is so many hills.

Saturday was a day of rest for me. I ended up cleaning my house on Saturday and getting rid of a lot of clothes that I no longer wear. I guess that can be considered XT!! :rotfl2:

Today, I headed out for a 7 mile run. I had one GU shot before I left and then brought one along for during my run. I jogged the whole way, finishing in about 1:13. That makes for an average pace of just under 10:30. My target pace for these long runs is 10:30 so I am very happy with this run!! I did stop to take my second GU about 40 mins into my run. And I did feel great the whole time. My back was a little sore afterwards but not too bad.

Tracy--Thanks for stopping by! The encouragement is great!

Hey...GREAT run today Laurie!!!:thumbsup2

I'm really glad your back is healing up and not hurting so bad!!! :goodvibes

I have to admit that it's great to mix up the hills with our nice flat trail :). I do two days of hills and one at the duck pond. Seems to be working well for me!

Hope your week ahead is a good one! Happy training :)

Nice work there Laurie!

I love changing up the route from time to time...sounds like you had fun even with all of the hills! And I agree that a good hill workout each week will greatly benefit your flat long runs and the mostly flat marathon. Just don't push it too much so you don't invite injury.

Nice to see your back is doing ok...and that you had a really nice pace on the long run. Keep up the good work!

You're doing great Laurie! :cheer2: I hope your back continues to feel better.:goodvibes

Have a great day tomorrow!:cool1:

Well, my training went down hill the past few days. My back is feeling a little better but still sore, but now to top it off, I am sick!!!! I can't win!! I am hoping to feel better tomorrow so I can get out and do something, even it is only a walk. I really need to start getting on track.

Today, I went on the disneyrunning.com website and I was looking at all the marathon photos and race reports from last year, and that has me really motivated!!! I can't wait, and it is still just over 5 months away.

I plan on getting in some workouts this week, although I am heading to upstate NY for a meeting. I am on the Executive Board of the state physical education association and we have our annual summer meeting this week. The good thing is that it is in a beautiful location in the Adirondack mountains and we have some time to exercise. So, it looks like I will be able to get some workouts in while I am there!!!!

Amy--You are right, I like getting some hill workouts in...I love the duck pond trail but it is just so flat!! And, I have to say that I need a little variety in my routes as I am starting to get tired of running there every day. So, my hill workout will help with that a little bit!

Scott--You are right about changing my route up. Like I said to Amy, I am getting sick of running the same route all the time, so maybe a change will help motivate me a bit!!!

Tracy--Thanks! the back is slowly getting better!!!

Hi Laurie

Sorry to hear that you aren't feeling well...hope you get better soon!

I'm really excited for you in regards to running the marathon! I can remember what was going thru my mind last year at this time...so ready to get started with training, but anxious in terms of the unexpected. I'm really glad I kept a journal here, so make sure you keep posting throughout your training...it's an awesome thing to have as a memento of your journey.

Have fun this week in the mountains!

 Laurie,

I hope you're feeling better soon. Have a good time in New York! Enjoy those mountains!:goodvibes

Hi Laurie!!!

I hope your meeting in upstate NY is going well. At least you are having beautiful weather (albeit HOT). Maybe the week away will help your back to heal up. Hopefully it gets better soon...back pain is really no fun at all :(. You must have had a really bad fall there!

Good luck with getting the runs in :). Have a great weekend. :sunny:

Hey Everybody!! Yes, I am still here, Life has really taken over the last few weeks!!! But, I have managed to still get some training in. Between family stuff and my summer job, I have not been able to keep up with my journal. Sorry!! I have been thinking about you guys though! I just returned from vacation yesterday and now have one week before school starts again! I plan on really getting back into my training this week and getting back into a regular routine. Ok, I will be back later on to update more and to check everyone's journals and get caught up!
