Laurie's journal - Atkins plan (comments welcome)

Hi laurie,

1st I am glad the interview went well. If the interviewer told DH that the other 2 weren't qualifies, it sounds like he reallyliked him. A12 block walk is also very good exercise for DH.

I am glad things settled down at work. My job is like that too. Friday night we are so busy, no one takes breaks. Saturday we're looking for things to do. as for sleeping in, after yesterday you obviously needed the rest.

I hope they figure out the class situation soon. I know you are anxious to get this over with.

I love Alias. I thought last night's episode was cool.

Take care,
Beth

Eating has been primarily on plan.

Exercise - did get a good long walk in with my mom on Monday but nothing since that time. Also walked, walked and walked some more at the home & garden show on Sunday...but I can't say it was the best of exercise.

School is on track, but I'm a bit confused as to what I need to complete for the final projects for this course. It is the first "seminar" course I've had - no lecture from the facilitator and not a whole lot of input either. I'd really like to gain some insight soon so that most of the work is complete prior to leaving on vacation with my folks in a couple of weeks. I'm resigned to traveling with my laptop and dealing with dial-up for the last few days of class.

DH did up the most amazing BBQ smoked pork shoulder on Tuesday. It just pulled apart and I've been having it with his version of LC BBQ sauce...not too sweet! (Splenda can be overused IMHO)

DH has not heard on the position he interviewed for last week but doe have another interview schedule with our local school district this week as well. He's only been applying for positions there for over a year now.

Work has either been over scheduled (like yesterday and tomorrow) or extremely slow (like today). There is no inbetween. It doesn't make sense that some production could be moved to days like today and not crammed into days when we are busy due to live events. I have to be in early for a class on "communication" tomorrow 2 hours earlier than my normal shift.

Fingers (and toes) are still crossed!

Hi Laurie,

I am glad you are easing back into exercise. I agree that some things with Splenda are just too sweet.

I'm still praying for DH. Good luck figuring out the class.

Take care,
Beth

Classes like that are so annoying... I need direction!
You are doing a great job! Keep it up! Happy Friday! :sunny:

Strange to think of being at work as a break, but that is how crazy busy I've been over my weekend.

Foodwise - mostly on plan (somehow a bag of black and red licorice made it into the house and in my very "monthly" state it is now gone).

Exercise - a little bit of walking and a whole lot of yard work (do I hurt!). Even mowed the lawn for the first time this year yesterday afternoon. Our unseasonably warm weather has got everything budding out and growing (especially those nasty weeds). Sad to say, we only made a small dent in all that needs to get done. The best part was that DH initiated the effort.

School - not as crazy with assignments due as last week. I activiated my network of former classmates and got some examples of the Professional Growth Plan we need to put together as this classes final project. It amazes me at the differences between the three classes currently working through this course. Sounds like we have the most laid back of facilitators - and that is not necessarily a good thing.

Work today is already behind schedule according to what needs to be accomplished...and the rest of the crew hasn't arrived yet. Just takes one producer not to have things ready to go to mess up an entire shift.

-Laurie

Hi Laurie,

I love red licorice.

I hope you start feeling better. A hot bath and motrin might help. We just got 4 inches of snow. I think I would rather be mowing my lawn right now.

I hope the class goes well.

Take care,
Beth

I love red licorice as well.

You guys are lucky to be having such nice warm weather. I love the Spring and when everything blooms.:flower:

/
We used to have warm weather too! a couple of days ago it was almost 60... Today we are going to get dumped on with this Nor'easter!

Keep up the great work!

Whew, what a week!

First of all - Licorice aside, food has all been on plan. No real exercise (other than the yard work to mention and there is so much more of that to do). And this course that was supposed to be "laid back and easy" has become a bit of a bear because of the lack of instruction on how to accomplish the deliverables. I activated my network of former classmates and have gotten some great insight and help...now just to get the work done by middle of this week.

The really big news is that DH looks like he will get the position at the Puyallup School District! Well, the HR lady called him Friday and asked him to come back in on Monday to meet the people he would be working with. Does that sound like he has the job? The manager he interviewed with at Harbor View emailed and then called him back to let him know that he was 2nd choice...actually interviewed better than their first choice but the other guy had experience with the new product they just implemented. (Strange - this produce has only been out about 3 months...hmmm.) Fingers are still crossed, but this job would mean a 7 minute commute (by either car or bicycle) to work for DH. The position would last at the least for 3 years due to the district technology levy passed last fall.

We also found out Friday that my parents, nieces and I will be getting a tour of the White House on Wed. Feb. 23rd. My parent's congressional representative (Jay Ensley) was able to get us tickets even though we do not have a group of 10 or more. It was the one thing my niece Allysa (will be 7 this Friday) asked to do while we are in Virginia & Washington DC. Somehow the strings were pulled and she will get her wish. We are all going to wear blue and be very respectful during our visit.

We are back to cold rain (mixed with ice pellets). It's not the weather your all dealing with east of us, but I am kicking myself for taking the old dead leaves off my banana plant - exposing the new leaves and now its frost bitten. We do need the snow in the mountains badly...I don't think it will be enough and in time to re-start the ski season, however.

Crossing my fingers for your husband! That would be wonderful! :cool1:

The tour of the White House sounds really cool! You'll have to let us know how it is!

Have a great day! :flower:

 Happy Valentine's Day!!

Laurie, the news about your husband's job at the school district is wonderful!! I'll continue to keep praying and crossing my fingers until everything is finalized. What a relief it must be for both you!!

A friend's father recently trapped a bobcat. The big kitty weighed in at only 22 pounds - somehow I thought he'd be bigger. Of course, since it's all lean muscle & bone, he does look heavier. His coat was absolutely beautiful and I felt sad that I only got to see him after his demise. I can only imagine how beautiful he would have looked while alive and moving. I thought of you watching your bobcat "play" with Niko and felt envious.

Best wishes for your class. I'm sure whatever you come up with will be good. Also best wishes for sanity at work.

Your tour of the White House - WOW!! How exciting for you and something you will all always remember!! Many hotels offer free hi-speed internet access now, if you have to bring work along, but I'm hoping you can finish everything up and leave that laptop at home. ::yes::

I hope you and your DH find some time to celebrate your love today, even if only a warm hug and some encouraging words. You two have certainly been through a lot - you're a strong couple!!

Hi laurie,

I am so happy to hear about DH's new job. He did get it right?

I am sure that your projects will be great, but it always helps to have friends who have been through the class before.

I hope you have a fantastic time in DC. The White House tour sounds fun.

Have a safe trip,
Beth

Great news about your husband's new job. Congrats. Hope you are having a nice trip. Take care. :flower:

Even though I got back from vacation with my folks and nieces late on Saturday, I have not yet caught up with being home. I picked up a nasty bug sometime during the week and by the time I was between Cincinnati and Salt Lake City it became terrible. I spent all day Sunday in bed with high fever and technicolor stuff coming from my nose and throat (sorry too much info, I know). Monday, I did go with DH up to play basketball and see my mom. We didn't walk - I just can't breathe without wheezing. I've got a call into the doctor and I'm hoping that he'll find time to get me today or at least call in a script. It feels like pnemonia...

DH began his new job today...I've not heard from him since he left this morning (all nervous). We will have to go shopping for him - dress code is "business causual" with the focus on the "business" part. He pulled his achilles playing ball last night and his swollen foot is inside his dress shoe. I'm sure he'll come home with a very bad attitude. He is excited to actually be back on a job though!

The trip was terrific! We stayed in a condo resort that is located on what was the Powhatan Plantation. The restored mannor house was beautiful! The condo was three levels with a sleeping loft (two twins) where the girls took over, a second level with a large sitting area, queen-size bedroom and full bath, and kitchen, dinning/living, and king-size bedroom with full bath on the first level. There was our own spa in a greenhouse type patio and a regular deck off the living area. The resort also had an indoor pool and workout room, hiking trails, etc. There are two large outdoor pools and spas that will be open when the weather is warmer and sport courts.

We went to the Virginia living history/natural museum in Newport News on Sunday. Wonderful place - very hands on with reptiles and they have bobcat, wolves, foxes, etc. We then met my friend Jamie (stationed near Virginia Beach) and his Navy buddies for dinner. What fun! We adopted them and they us for the evening. We had an interesting time getting them back to base because none of them have driven in the area and they are from the West Coast. The running joke was that 3 intelligence specialists got themselves and a family lost in Virginia beach. Colonial Williamsburg was very interesting and uncrowded. We spent two days walking through the open buildings and talking with the people who work and live there re-creating colonial life (just prior to the Revolutionary War). We headed up to Washington DC on Wednesday morning and barely got to the motel in time to shuttle over to Union Station and negotiate the metro. The self-guided Whitehouse tour was a little bit of a letdown. Yes, it was interesting, but we couldn't take anything but ID with us - no cameras. It was beautiful in DC that day but I don't have a picture! We browsed through the American History and Natural History museums and then headed back to Union station. Unfortunately, it took two very cold hours to get a shuttle back to the motel. This made us uneasy with the snow the next day about heading back into the city without the van. We did manage to find parking at the Lincoln Memorial Thursday am and to hike around in the snow for a bit and see the other memorials on that end. Wet and cold we drove back to Williamsburg early. The snow ended before hitting Richmond (although schools were cancelled down to that area for the day). We did Jamestowne (both the National park and Living history park) on Friday. It was the highlight of our trip!

Foodwise - no so on plan - but I did not overeat junk either. Exercise - we walked and walked and walked! The weather was very cold but mostly partly cloudy with some chilly sunshine (except for the snow in DC). The people were so warm, polite and inviting! We had ordinary citizens sharing information about their homes and the area without having to pry. We felt like very welcomed guests everywhere we went. I'm sure in a few weeks when spring arrives and stays, the gardens will be stunning!

I just returned from a Dental cleaning this morning and will have to try the doctor again. Note to self - do not go more than 6 months between cleanings!

Schoolwise - it was tough to finish by dialing in but I did pull another real A from the course.

I'll check into journals by tomorrow - I promise.

Welcome back Laurie,

First, Congrats on the A in your class. That is awesome!

I am sorry that your are sick. take extra good care of yourself. Did you get in to see the doctor?

I am so glad your trip was rewarding. The condo sounds wonderful. I am sorry that you couldn't bring a camera. i still remember a trip to Williamsburg as a kid. I am thinking that I'll start taking Katie ti Greenfield Villiage this summer. I would like her to enjoy history.

Take care,
Beth

Glad to see you Laurie! Sounds like your trip was fun! :flower: Sorry you are sick! Hope you feel better soon! :grouphug:

I'm so sorry I have not been around to journals...I did not get into see our family doctor at all last week. He is semi-retired and as much as my husband wants to still be on his patient roster, the doctor's schedule and my own just do not mix well. I toughed it out at work Wednesday through Friday and started to get much worse instead of better. After a completely crazy day at work on Friday with too many extra projects being thrown my direction, I completely cracked. I called DH on the way home and told him I was headed straight to the ER. He talked me into coming home first and changing into a pair of sweats and then he took me to the ER. I have sinusitis and the beginnings of pnemonia (as I expected). I was put on Zithromax and a narcotic cough syrup...I took Saturday off work after a long night at the hospital. Unfortunately, after 4 days, I not really feeling that much better. Still having colorful discharge from nose and throat (sorry too much info). I sleep a little better after taking the cough syrup. I'm caught up with school work but not much else right now.

The drugs are supposed to continue working after my 5 days taking them are up - but I'm concerned about returning to work and becoming too tired if I don't feel much better by Tuesday afternoon. Our weather has been unseasonably warm - 65 degrees today! and the pollen count is high aggrevating my health with alergies and asthma.

I'm really enjoying my latest course (English Language Learners) - and just realized that after this class is finished I am halfway through with my Masters program. 10 more months of fulltime work (if I make it that far). We really need me to continuing working fulltime to catch up on the income lost while DH was off work - but my course demands are getting harder and I need to spend more time in classrooms getting my observation time in as well.

DH pulled something in his foot a week ago playing basketball and just got into the orthopedist today - he came home in a soft-walking cast. A MRI is scheduled for later in the week. I really grateful that his job hours and responsibilities are flexible! He won't be playing ball again for several weeks. We do need to take him shopping for more "business causual" clothing...whether he will let me help or not is another story.

I would really like life to be a little more simple and less prone to bad luck, poor health and accidents for a little while. It just seems like just when things are looking up something else just has to make things challenging again. I know you all know the feeling.

I promise - I'm getting journals this afternoon as a break in working on my paper (due this evening).

 Laurie,

I hope DH's foot heals soon. You need to rest. Take another day or two off. You can get a bit ahead in your coursework.

I hope you can get things worked out, so you aren't pushing yourself too hard. (I know that is rich coming from me.)

Don't worry about journals. Take care of yourself,
Beth

Whatever "normal" is, I'm not sure I'm quite there yet. The pnemonia seems to be gone, the dry scratchy cough remains. I've been a bit overwhelmed by home, work, and school. Finally back on track with school.

DH's foot just needs time to get better. But he has to be off of it for another 4-5 weeks - no basketball or hiking or mowing the lawn! He's enjoying his new job and the 5 minute commute!

With March Madness, my job is nuts! We are either too busy or waiting, waiting and waiting some more. Everyone is really uptight too! Only 9 more months of this I keep telling myself.

Foodwise - mostly on target, little or no exercise - still coughing badly.

One more day to work this week and off for 3 (to catch up on school!)

It is definitely "March madness" on all fronts. Work was so crazy this week I had two long days with no breaks. I got home and was tortured by leg cramps all night long due to dehydration and innactivity (I hope). Since I just got back on the BC pills a couple of weeks ago - the leg cramps had me a bit freaked out to say the least. Yesterday and today - I've gotten breaks and enough water. I sort of slept last night.

DH is having to define his new job as he goes along. The district knew they needed someone with his skills and experience but they've yet to really define what they want him to accomplish. I've been pushing him to just jump in and take on one project that he can analyze and quickly get something accomplished so they know what he can do. (I'm on eggshells - there is something just in the back of my mind that the rug might get pulled out from under us - my worry, and I don't want to make it his.)

Everytime class seems to be under control then it spins away from me. Yes, OK, control issues - my problem. Our last team project spun away from us because the guy in our group who volunteered to manage the project decided to just "lone wolf" it. What he came up with was quite nice but way off track as far as the requirements. Plus this particular project goes into each of our individual portfolios for later review and assessment - all group members needed to be involved in the planning and implementation. The other two gals were ready to just do their own - which wouldn't have worked for grading purposes and I tried to take what the guy had done and change it into a plan that met the requirements...We received a 13/15 score but it has put me behind on my own final project and our last team project which I'm now managing. This class ends on Wednesday - too soon and not soon enough.

Foodwise - except for chocolate and coffee I'm doing well.

Exercise - non-existent unless running around with my head cut off counts.

House looks like it should be on one of the extreme organization shows! as does the yard as it completely taken over by weeds. I'm really looking forward to a week away from school...now if we'd just win the lotto!
