Laur’s & Andy do the Universe and the World – Day Eight

Me – Laur’s – 27
DH – Andy – 28

Day eight – 28 September 2006 – the glasses fairy?

We had booked a wake up call for 8.10 am and got woken up by Stitch and Mickey. We had some coffee and Special K bars in our room and then headed out on to the balcony. As we were going through the door, I found Andy’s glasses on the spare bed. I think Tinkerbell must have brought them back in the night because we had both checked the bed several times the previous night. It was a big relief. We saw some kudu from our balcony, and then set off for the Magic Kingdom.

I was super excited because this is my very favourite park. We arrived about 10.10 am, and the first character we saw was Daisy! Wow, Daisy is soo hard to spot, I have been trying to get my picture with her for years. Despite the queue stretching practically back to England this was a must do. Who knows if we will ever see her again?

First Disney picture under my belt, we hurried to Pirates of the Caribbean. The pirate tutorial was just finishing up when we arrived, so we hurried into the queue before the masses joined it (and they did). We loved the changes – Davey Jones at the beginning is incredible, I am still trying to figure out how that works, and it was great fun spotting Jack and seeing how very lifelike he looks.

We walked over to Splash Mountain after POTC, and were extremely lucky in that it had just reopened after being closed for the ride breaking down. We ended up in the first log (but not in the front, I am still too much of a wuss for that!) and I panicked all the way round that it would get stuck with us hanging over the edge of the final drop. We didn’t, of course, but we did stop a couple of times – once on the ascent to the final drop!

We had a ride around the Haunted Mansion after Splash, and then went for our lunch at Columbia Harbour House. We sat upstairs and had a starboard deck sandwich each, which were very tasty, and a Sprite. They came with Miss Vickie crisps, but we only ate one packet as they were really salty.

After refuelling we got a fastpass for Peter Pan and saw Winnie the Pooh giving out cuddles by his play area. I ran up to get mine. I think this is my favourite picture ever (except from the ones on our wedding day).

We went to Andy’s favourite, Philharmagic, next and then got a fastpass for the Winnie the Pooh ride. Our fastpass time for Peter Pan had come round, so we hopped on a boat and rode that, and then everyone’s favourite (haha) It’s a Small World. We then rode Winnie the Pooh – eventually – the fastpass queue was horrendously long, think the CMs had got the lines mixed up!

It was time then for the Disney Dreams Come True parade. This is pretty similar to the snowglobes parade, but they have a new song which is really catchy and very Disney. I divided my time between watching the parade, watching the two CMs signing the words to the song for guests with hearing problems (these girls were amazing) and swinging my arms around trying to unsettle the trillions of lovebugs.

We got a Mickey cookie ice cream each and went and got a diet coke in the Pinnochio Village Haus and sat in there in the cool to eat our ice creams. Feeling more refreshed, we went to get another fastpass for the Pooh ride and then went over to do Buzz (terrible score for me) and the TTA.

We went back round to the Pooh ride and after riding, looked in the shop. I bought a cutie Pooh bear which is just about the most adorable thing ever, and then the three of us set off back to the AKL.

We got back about 6 pm and as it was still early decided to hop in the hot tub for half an hour. I was a bit disappointed to get back to no towel animals or replacements of toiletries or coffee. The hot tubs here were a bit more crowded than the ones at the HRH, but still very relaxing. Spent a bit of time pretending we were mob bosses and then got out for a proper bath.

We went out to the Pop Century for our tea because I couldn’t bear to be in Florida and not have my favourite nacho supreme. I got a bit emotional when we pulled up at the Pop, I was loving the AKL, but the Pop feels a bit like home because it’s the only resort we have stayed in twice. (Definitely back here next year). I got my nachos (mmmmm) and some pink milk and Andy had a chilli cheese dog and fresh orange. We had a look round the shop after tea and then set out for Downtown Disney.

As is traditional we visited the Christmas shop to choose a decoration for our tree. We chose a Mickey and Minnie ornament with the year on. We also went in Mickey’s Pantry shop and bought a parrot cocktail stirrer for my aforementioned Parrothead friend.

We then hit the World of Disney, and I bought a cutie Tigger for my mum and my secret santa present. Andy went off to choose some Christmas presents for me – I can’t wait to open them!

We arrived back tired and achy footed at the AKL around 11.15 pm. Andy had a beer and I had a fuzzy navel and we watched Raven and Phil of the Future on the Disney channel. We made it to bed around 12.45 am.
