Laundrymat between Port and WDW?

Okay, this is probably one of the weirder questions: Has anyone stopped on the way from the port to Disney to do laundry?

I was considering making a reservation for a one bedroom villa so we would have a washer and dryer, but it seems to me that if we stopped at a laundry mat on the way, we could wash (simultaneously) and dry a couple of loads in an hour or so, and be ready to go for a couple more days at WDW. That time would be offset by quite a savings in time either on the ship or in cash for the upgrade room which we don't really need on this trip.

Anyone familiar with any convenient laundry facilities en route between Port Canaveral and Walt Disney World?

After our cruise in July, we stopped on the way to WDW at a place in Merrit Island. It was in a small strip mall on the right side of the road. There was a small, family-owned, stand-alone restaurant right at the entrance. It was after an Eckerds. We stopped at a gas station and asked for information. I wish I remembered more. That was a true let down after our wonderful cruise, but necessary.

Many hotels have coin laundry facilities. Call yours and check. also neighboring hotels if not. Try the on line yellow pages or maybe the visitors and convention bureau of Orlando can help. There must be lots in the tourist areas and also near the Orlando airport (lots of apartment complexes around). Not much business wise on the Beeline (Hwy 528) between the airport and the Port.

I am sure that my resort will have laundry facilities, but that is exactly what I want to avoid -- probably having to wait to get a machine, lugging my clothes around the resort, etc. It would be much easier to pull to the door to a place with lots of professional machines, do a couple of loads at the same time, dry and get back on the road.

Thanks for the info so far. I will have to deal with reality (laundry!) for a short time between the cruise and WDW, but it shouldn't be too bad. :D

Just a thought,

Bring a few rolls of quarters and pre-packaged laundry detergent (like the ones you can get that are in tablet form) and do a little bit of laundry each day (both on board and at WDW). The ship has coin-op laundry (expect it to be busy last day of the trip and the evening after CC), and of course the WDW hotels all have coin op laundry rooms as I recall.

I thing the laundry rooms at WDW hotels are pretty much "full size", while the ones on board are closer to those small washer/dryer over/under combo units.

I do remember that the first time we ever did WDW and DCL, we did WDW first. The evening of the last day at WDW, I spend the time filling out all the paper work while the DW washed everything we had been wearing at WDW, that way we only had to pack for a 4 day trip rather than for an 8 day trip.

I guess another thought would be to wash one day's worth of laundry your last day on board (start early in the day) and then wash everything else that first day you are already spending traveling from DCL to WDW. I guess put another way, rather than doing laundry anywhere near the port, just wait til you are at WDW (assuming you are staying at the property). From what I recall, the laundry facilities at the property hotels is about the size of a standard laundramat (can someone confirm?).

I am familiar with doing laundry both onboard and at WDW. No, the laundry rooms at the WDW resorts I've used have been tiny, and you might as well plan on waiting for a machine and, to be polite, only doing one load. I am NOT going to schlep our dirty clothes around and then possibly not even be able to wash them, nor sit around a laundry room for hours (usually it seems those washers and dryers take FOREVER). Same situation with the ship -- I probably will have to do a load or two, but I am not going to spend any substantial amount of time doing laundry while onboard.

I couldn't remember the details of the laundry rooms at WDW. It was my DW and not me that spent the majority of time washing the cloths. We had some radios and she would just call me when she needed help. Then again, things might have changed since that trip. It's been so long ago that at the time DCL had FREE washer/dryers on the ship. It wasn't until later that they switched to coin-op machines on board.

Just a caution!
Every year when we travel down to the timeshare, I always pick up detergent for the washer. This year I decided, since the box was too big for our suitcase, to put it into a large plastic baggie.
I was all set, all packed and my husband (a NYC cop) was rummaging through to check if he forgot anything when he came upon my Baggie of Detergent. He gave me that look and said, Corryn - C'mon, what were you thinking?!?! And I said, What? (Innocently enough) and he said, What does this look like to you? I couldn't help but laugh. They check the bags very carefully now. Had they checked our luggage and noticed a plastic baggie full of white powder, God knows what kind of problems we could have run into. So Bring The Box (or the tablets like was suggested already)!
