I used to buy the laundry tabs to bring and now when I am looking for them for our trip in a few days I have found out that they are discontinued. Any ideas what to do? I suppose I can just add a bottle to our grocery list for Winn-dixie. Any other suggestions?

The tabs were great for traveling...this is disappointing.

I just put a couple of scoops in a sandwich bag, then put the bag inside another one. I fly every two weeks and this has always worked for me.

I know people were buying the sample Tide liquid bottle, but it's too big to put into my suitcase.

Hope that helps! Or just stop by any WDW resort laundry and buy a box for $1

I stopped by the dollar store and bought a dollar box of detergent. I packed it in its own heavy ziploc just in case. There was more than enough and no guilt with leaving the rest behind

thanks...how did the $1 laundry detergent work out? Thanks again.

Worked great. Box of Purex. I don't know I'd use it at home, but for washing park clothes it was fine - not like they get too muddy or sloppy. We did a load of laundry every day....including one that included our park tickets (don't ask, bad day)

but I stopped at our local Harmon's, which is a discount beauty/drug store and they had near their entrance, where they have baskets of travel sized items, those individual boxes of detergent that you would purchase through the vending machine in a laundromat. 2 boxes for $1. So I purchased 4 boxes.

I also was lucky enough to get an email with a link for a free sample of Tide with Febreeze. Sent for one of those, got one for my mom and another for a friend. Collected all and have enough now for 7 loads during the week.

We just ran out of tabs, too, and I was doing a search for travel sized laundry detergent on the internet & came across this store
http://www.minimus.biz/
I haven't bought anything from them yet, so I'm not sure about how it all works, but I think we might give it a try before our next trip. They sell those little boxes of powdered tide & cheer under domestic/laundry category - boxes are .65 ea. They also sell a lot of other little travel sized things, but not sure how prices compare to Target, Wal-Mart, etc.

I have signed up for the free tide on a couple of occasions. I have purchased the small bottles from the Dollar store (purex brand) you get 5-6 loads out of the bottle. Then you just leave the rest behind. I have put powdered detergent in the snack size zip lock bags and that works well too!

I bought some single load liquid packets at CVS a few weeks ago. They're the CVS brand Free-Clear detergent. I bought enough (actually more than enough) for our next 3 trips: December 2005, June 2006, & December 2006.

I imagine they'll be like All Free-Clear, but even if not, they should be good enough.

Also, in Target the other day, I saw some small Tide bottles in the travel/sample section. They were for 2 loads each.

My wife always packs ziplock sandwich bags, each one filled with enough powdered laundry detergent to do a single load. Not quite as handy as the tabs, but simple enough that even I can figure out how to throw in a load of laundry.

I only use liquid, so I take a gatorade sports bottle (24oz) and pour in one load of detergent and then mark a line with a permanent marker. I put in enough for another load and mark it. It holds enough for about 8 loads. When I use the detergent, I just pour down to the first mark. I bring it in my carry on bag. Works great.

Rats. I love those laundry tablets. Guess I'll have to carefully ration my last remaining box to the "tabletworthy" laundry, a la Seinfeld!

I miss the tablets too! I gave DS the last box I had to take to college with him. I wish the manufacturers would make them again. I fill ziploc snack bags with powdered detergent (they fit enough for one load) and I put all of the snack bags in a gallon ziploc bag so that if they break they will remain contained. Annmarie

I buy that powdered laundry detergent that comes in a bottle. I think it is called Fresh Start. I put it in a big ziplock bag just to make sure there isn't any accidents while it travels in the suitcase but I haven't ever had any.

thanks to all of you for the great suggestions. We leave Thursday, so I won't be able to spend a lot of time looking for this. If nothing else, I will pick up a bottle at Winn Dixie. Darn, I really miss those tabs.

I had asked a question of fellow DISers last year when I couldn't find the tablets any where. A few people suggested checking discount stores like Big Lots because when items are discontinued these types of stores purchase the left over stock. I checked locally and never found any. Annmarie

There are websites where you can still order them....I thought I had them saved, but I cannot find them. However, Sears still makes them...sort of. They are not tabs, but rather packets of powder in dissolveable wrappers.....really, the equivalent of tabs. Just go to any Sears and ask for them. They were having a "buy one, get one free" when we bought ours...they are VERY handy.

Hi chip1.
Where are you in Illinois? I bought some Purex Tablets at a Walgreen's in Chicago last winter. Search this forum for "laundry tablets" and look for the one that says, "Where can I find laundry tablets?" (or something like that--sorry, I don't know how to paste the link). There was a link to find Purex tablets and a link to find Tide Rapid Action Tablets. I just did a search and there were no Purex tablets near me (Western Springs, near Chicago) but Tide tablets were out in Aurora. Maybe you can buy some for your next trip. Have a great trip!

I like the fact that this has become the 'hot' thread on the planning board!!!

bavaria, I had no idea I'd get so many responses to this! BTW, I am in the sw suburbs of Illinois in Mokena. I really appreciate all the help.
