Santa brought my son a shirt for Christmas that has black sleeves and a white body...what is the best way to wash it to keep the black black and the white white? Cold water and vinegar?

I highly recommend

Wash in cold water with your regular detergent and one of these and it will "catch" any stray dye.

So basically, this shirt has to be washed separately for the rest of it's life?

I have one of those baseball/athletic shirts, like the OP described. No way was I putting it with my whites. I have to do my laundry at a laundromat & wasn't going to waste $2 each time to wash one shirt in a separate washer. I put it in with my darks. The sleeves are still dark. The white is dingy. :(

No no, wash it with colors in cold and with the Color Catcher. That will keep the white areas clean and prevent the dark areas from fading. It really works, I use them all the time.
