If you haven't tried the new laundry detergent pods they are great. Instead of measuring liquid or powder and adding to your washing machine, you just toss a small pod in with the wash. I mention this because they are great for travel. We are leaving for WDW Saturday and I just packed 3 pods in a zip lock bag for the trip. Very convenient.

Agreed. We used to buy a small container of liquid detergent after check-in and even though we do wash often when staying in DVC 2BR units, we always ended up leaving at least 1/2 the container. Now we pack the pods and there's no waste.

Totally agree. I used them for the first time in November. Received free samples and figured "why not". They were great. Put them in a zip lock, no worries. Will now add them on to my "must pack" list.

My old washer just died so I just bought a new washer last week and it's one of the newer types that use only HE detergent - it has a special dispenser to put it in. Do you know how these pod things work with a washer that has a special dispenser / detergent requirements?

I don't NORMALLY do laundry on vacation but since we're going for 2 weeks this summer I was thinking that I MIGHT do just a couple of loads. I was wondering what type of washers they've put in at the newer resorts like Aulani? Are they the new HE ones? Or maybe I should go ask that over on one of the Aulani specific threads? :confused3

We use Tide Pods in our front-load HE washer. Simply toss it into the drum before adding the clothes. (Do not put it in the normal detergent dispenser.)

Aulani? Trying to remember. I believe our Aulani stay (Sept 2011) had a normal, top load washer with a package of powder detergent.

OK, good. I know I can get Tide 1-load packets in the travel-size aisle at Target so I thought I could maybe just pack a couple of those. :thumbsup2

ETA: so are the pods HE?

I believed Tide's YouTube presentation: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dd_6pJzWdf4

They've worked fine for me in both standard and HE washers. I've had no troubles toting the Pods on travel, either.

Thanks - maybe I'll try them sometime...LOL...I had just bought one of the gigantic jugs of Tide at Costco right before my old washer died...then I had to go out & buy the new HE stuff last week (I bought both the reg. Tide HE and the Coldwater HE) so maybe whenever I'm out I'll try some of those if I see 'em on sale somewhere. Meanwhile I still have to find somebody to give my big jug of the regular Tide to. :rotfl:

Was just coming on to ask about these pods -- glad to see there's a thread. Have you packed these in checked luggage on a plane? Did they make it safely in a zip bag?

Take your jug to a womens shelter they can always use stuff like this!!!

I've checked mine several times but usually in a small, hard-sided Tupperware-like container. The only time I used a simple ziplock baggy, the baggy was stuffed into the toe of a steel toe hiking boot. I'm pleased to say they traveled safely halfway around the world (San Diego to Johannesburg via London).

Word of caution if you have young kids. The poison control centers have had thousands of reports of kids eating the pods.

I wouldn't recommend a zip bag. I use them as my regular detergent at home, and the liquid is tightly packed into a thin membrane that feels pretty delicate. I don't think it would take much to make them burst.

As a PP suggested, I'd go with one of those plastic containers, like Tupperware or the disposable Glad containers.

I have packed the tide pods in a zip lock bag twice while flying and didn't have any problems. They are the best!!

A company called Dropps makes a pod fabric softener that works pretty well for travel.

Word of warning if you have an HE machine the tide pods don't always dissolve. We used them a couple of times and they plastic stuck to clothing and had to be pealed off.

We did bring the rest of our bag of pods to Disney and used them at OKW and they worked fine.

I packed 3 or 4 pods in a plastic travel soap container which I enclosed in a ziplock for our last cruise. Ended up not using them but they didn't burst. Also have a bag of them in our version of Owner's Locker (as in family members let us store a bin at their house :grouphug:) .

We used these for the first time last October. They were fantastic, easy to travel with, and I brought the extra home. They are currently sitting in our laundry room waiting for our next trip. I'm not sure I'll do laundry on our next trip as we have a studio, but I'll bring a couple in a ziplock bag just in case. We packed them in our checked luggage last time and none of them burst, so not too worried on that front.
