Laundry in board

it's my understanding that we don't need quarters to do laundry on board. We use our card to charge it to our room.

But what about laundry soap? Do we need coins for that or use our card?

Also wondering what it costs to have them do laundry. Is it charged by weight?

How does the service price compare to machine and soap cost?

To have them do the laundry it goes by article not weight.

Pair of socks 1 dollar
Shorts 3 dollars
Long pants 4 dollars
Tshirt 2.50
This is from memory it could of change or my mistake but you get the point

Enjoy your cruise have them do your laundry.

Using the machines and purchasing detergent will be charged to your on board account. I try to bring detergent with me. I have found 1 load packets in the travel section at Target and I have also used the pods which are easy to pack for traveling.

You can use your KTTW card to purchase soap, also:

Here's the laundry price list:

To use self-service laundry (per load), wash is $2.00 and dry is $2.00. Soap is $1.00.

Remember the washers are HE...and if a jack-idiot before you uses the non-HE packets of Tide sold at Target, you will spend 2-3 loads just getting all of the soapy suds out of the washer. I was PISSED when this happened. I can't imagine how soapy the previous person's clothes must have been!!

We grab a couple of towels from the pool deck and run them through at least once to try to clean some of the soap out. Once they seem to be clear, only then do we run our own clothes through. We then use the same washer one load after another.

Even using HE liquid detergent from home, we found we only needed to use a (measured) TEASPOON and still had to do a second or third cycle to rinse it out. Quickly gets expensive :-(.

This is good to know. My next cruise is EBPC and I was thinking about packing less and doing one or two loads of laundry about halfway through. I'm going to rethink this...

We've never encountered excess soap when doing laundry onboard. I think most people use the soap sold in the machines onboard, and not so many actually bring their own. I would think that the soap sold in the dispensers onboard would be sized/formulated for use in the smaller, HE washers onboard. But I could be wrong.

I did my laundry while on the Fantasy last April. Two loads, around $12 total. While inexpensive, I had to get up real early to find a washer and dryer. Not a good use of vacation time.

On the other hand, I could have used the laundry service. $3 for a shirt and $3.50 for pants sounds inexpensive, but if you have 8 shirts and 8 pairs of pants and a couple of skirts and dresses, it can add up pretty quick. Throw in some socks and under garments and you could have a $70 to $80 load.

So you have to figure out what is more important to you, your vacation time or your wallet.

You should know your clothes are going to washed in a large industrial washer and dryer if you use their services. It's not going to be done by someone using the same machines that are in the laundry room.

Don't send out anything that is irreplaceable or needs special care.

I haven't had much luck and prefer to do my own.

Good point.

We typically do our laundry early in the morning (we're early risers). Sometimes we've done it during dinner - start the wash before heading up to the dining room. WATCH the time, and one of us will head out just before it's due to be finished to switch it to the dryer. There's usually plenty of time (during the wash cycle) to order and get served our salad/appetizers. Then, once the stuff's in the dryer, entree and dessert. Then we fold and take clothes to our room before heading to the theater for the show.

One note - DO NOT ATTEMPT TO DO LAUNDRY/PRESS CLOTHES ON FORMAL/SEMI-FORMAL NIGHTS ANYTIME AFTER 3 PM!!!! The line for that room/irons is simply ridiculous.

We still do laundry, don't get me wrong. We just plan to be doing it while doing other things :-)

I set the timer on my smartphone for a few minutes before the load will finish and then go off to do something, coming back when needed to rescue clothes.

We have to get the soap out or we get rashes. Most people, who are not sensitive, probably wouldn't even notice and most of time would just do one wash cycle then into the dryer.

The last couple trips I have taken (not cruises) I have brought my Scrubba wash bag and have used it to do laundry. It worked pretty well and I am considering bringing it on our next cruise and using it for at least some laundry. Even just being able to do the washing by hand and then use would cut down on the time.

I found the dryers are terrible.

We had hit and miss with the dryers. Some worked well and some you needed two cycles and stuff would still be a little damp (at that point we just hang dried it in the room).

FYI OP - this site ( http://disneycruiselineblog.com/2013/01/onboard-self-and-full-service-laundry-and-dry-cleaning/ ) explains about laundry on board but more importantly tells you where the laundry rooms are. Take a look at a floor plan map as the "closest" laundry may not be the closest per se.

On our first cruise, on the Dream, we were in 5 forward. Our stateroom host saw me leaving to go do laundry and asked which laundry room I was going to. I explained (it was a floor or two away, also forward) and he explained that was not the closest, that the closest was on deck 2, right beside the forward elevators. He was right. All I had to do was go to the fwd elevators, down to 2 (by elevator or stairs) and I was right there, no "backtracking" forward again. it also worked well the one night I did laundry during late dinner -- I just set my alarm and went and quickly rescued it mid-meal [we warned the server we were doing laundry and so I would leave breifly... I think they thought we were a little crazy :-) ].

On the longer cruises the lines to use the laundry get long. The line on our WBPC started forming about 6 a.m. We have learned to just pack enough undies to last the entire cruise, and if necessary we'll send out shirts/pants to be laundered. We're on vacation; I really don't want to spend it waiting to wash my clothes in machines that don't always work.

I do a few loads of laundry on every cruise usually because we are continuing on our vacation after the cruise so we need clean clothes. Never had a problem. I bring those combo laundry/dryer sheets from home. I only use them when we travel because they are so convenient.

I bought those single use packets in the Target travel spot as someone earlier mentioned and I did three loads on my alaskan cruise...I was able to use that one packet for all 3 loads because it will need a lot less detergent because its HE. I also don't pack the dryer too full. I always tell people that a good judge on board is the laundry bag in your room. Fill that up and that will be about what you can fit comfortably into a washer and dryer and it get clean and dry. Any more than that and you will be drying it forever. At home its about a bag and half of those plastic bags you get from target. Just a frame of reference.
