I know the facilities are in your room. But the dumb question is, is it free or do you have to use quarters? Also can you use any kind of detergent or does it have to be powder like I've read in some other threads? It's going to be our first stay ever and I want to make I have it right. Thanks!

It's free - they will supply you with one small, single-use box of powder (Tide, I think). I don't believe you have to use powder, though. The machines are your basic stacked W/D units, nothing fancy.

I don't like powder detergent so when I went in September I brought liquid detergent and it was fine. The only thing is some of the washers are now the high efficiency and you need to use different detergent or the clothes don't come clean.

I don't believe it has to be powder either but that is what I used. The sample box they supply you with IS Tide (I know cause DS is allergic to Tide so we didn't use it). There were no "signs" stating that you could only use powder so I would assume liquid would be fine.

OKW has a full-sized washer and dryer in a separate laundry room in all 1BR and larger villas.

The other on-site DVC resorts have a compact stacking washer and dryer in a laundry closet in all 1BR and larger villas.

As others have written, they're free, but you only get one single-load box of Tide powder. You can buy more detergent in the resort shop.

I dislike using powder and have to use something that is free from perfume and dyes. I plan on getting a grocery deliver anyway so will order my favorite liquid. Thanks everyone

Walmart carries a free version of detergent in disintergrating gel packs, which have worked very well at DVC for my allergic family. They work out really well when traveling because they are so light. Twenty packets fit in the smallest container. But that has to be in the checked luggage under current airline guidelines. I actually enjoy doing laundry at DVC! (But not at my real home...):laundy:

Hi: The one story grand villas at the BW have full size w/d in their own utility room; the room was about 9 x 12. We were able to store our suitcases in there as well.

But not if it is two story.
Ours was up in a closet by the bedrooms. Same sizes as other villas.
