What do you guys reccommend as the best laundry detergent?

I have been using Gain for years. I love the Apple Mango Tango scent. Last week at DS's baseball game....I noticed how faded his shirt was. It looked awful next to everyone else's. A completely different color! :scared1:

I had no idea our clothes were faded that much. :confused3

So what do you use?

I use Tide, I use cheaper stuff for the towels and sheets. Cheer makes a formula that is supposed to stop fading.

Clothes fade like that if you wash them too often, use too much detergent, or wash on the wrong temp.

I use whatever I can get on sale. I like Ajax the best, though. I used to use the store brand from Path Mark but since A&P took over the PathMark chain, the price went up almost double so I don't use it anymore.

I only use Tide Liquid. I have used it for 20 years. I have tried other brands but don't like the way our clothes look. My mom will only use Tide powder.

I use Wal-Mart brand (pink or green lid) and Consumer Report gave it a high rank along with Tide, plus it's so much cheaper.

I use Tide and happily pay the price because it's the only thing I've found that doesn't fade.

I'm in WalMart all the time and didn't know they have their own brand of laundry detergent! I will absolutely check it out next time I go.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

BTW.... on one of those news magazine shows, they did a comparison of expensive name brand detergents like Tide, etc versus no-name brands/store brands and the verdict was that the no name/store brands cleaned just as good, if not better, than the name brands

I prefer Charlie's Soap, but will use Country Save or Biokleen if they're on sale at a great price!
(I love these since they can be used in regular or HE machines and contain no phosphates so they are biodegradeable. They're great for our skin and the environment, plus they're not too expensive. I usually buy them on Amazon as that's where they are usually the cheapest!

Ditto Loreli...
Melapower is the only 6 times concentrated on the market and it contains no NTA(carcinogen) It works great, no fading and great stain removal plus is a great value, $29 for 194 loads of laundry. I used to use Tide until I found out it does not dissolve in water and contains a carcinogen linked to breast cancer.

I never heard of these brands.... can you get them in NY? Or can you order them online?

I use whatever Free and Clear detergent is cheapest. Right now it's Sun Burst, sometimes it's Purex, All, store brand, Cheer....I'm not too picky. I wash my nice clothes in cold on the gentle cycle and they always get hung up to dry. That way if I miss a stain, I still have a hope of getting it out. Almost everything else gets washed in cold water on the regular cycle, and I hang what I can when the weather cooperates! There are several of us with matching shirts at school (from a school event) and mine looks new. My friends' all look pretty worn out. I think the dryer and strong detergents can really give clothes a beating.

It's his baseball uniform, so it's washed a few times a week. I wash almost everything in cold water & I hang dry the uniform (I'm afraid to shrink it).

Thanks for the suggestions so far ~ keep 'em coming! I'm going to pick up a new brand tomorrow to try.

I use an all natural detergent (no phosphate, no formaldehyde, no PBA, no BPA, biodegradeable and a few other items that its free from). It gots me 9cents per load of clothes that I wash.

Tide powder here. And we only use a bit and mix it with oxyclean for some things.

I switched to Tide about 4 years ago, and am happy with the job it does. But, it has gotten so expensive lately, that I'm thinking of trying something else.

I think I read in one of these threads some time ago that some of you like the Aldi brand. But, don't they have 2 different kinds? Does anyone have any comments on Aldi's detergent?

I love Ecos from costco its all natural it has a nice Magnolia &Lily fragrance you only need half capful for front loaders.:cool1:

Only use liquid, whatever's on sale... I'm the nut one you see opening the caps checking what they smell like.
