Laundry Bag Charge

Day 1 of our recent Norwegian Fjords cruise, we wanted to do laundry and noticed that neither of our two rooms had laundry bags.

I asked the stateroom host for bags, and was provided only one.

Low and behold, we were charged for a laundry bag, even though we didn't take, or lose one.

It is not worth the time it takes to chase this down, but after spending so much on the cruise, it kind of bothers me - particularly since we tipped the stateroom host in excess of the standard amount.

I almost wish there were a way to delay some of the tip to the stateroom host until after I get home and find out whether or not I've been cheated by any trailing charges.

It was only $10, but given that we spent in excess of $16k on the cruise, it was a bit of a sucker punch.

This happened to us, but I think we were charged $30. Got on the ship, immediately bagged DH shirts to be pressed and gave them to the cabin steward. Got the shirts back the next day but never got another laundry bag (and didn't even think about it). About a week after we got back I noticed a charge on our credit card I didn't recognize. I called DCL and was told I took the bag. I explained about having the shirts pressed and they looked up that charge to prove what I said . We were refunded the money.

But it is worth the time to start a thread on a message board to complain about it?

Exactly. Could have got the situation sorted then turned it into a positive post about how there was an issue but it got sorted. Lets face it, its Disney and a laundry bag - they'll sort it...

I will let you know how it goes.

I understand your frustration. You spend all that money on a cruise, you shouldn't have waste time chasing down $10 after the fact for a mistake that wasn't yours. Sorry that happened to you. Hopefully they quickly refund it and it doesn't take more than one email.

The mystery charge was for a laundry bag after all. DCL appears willing to offer a refund, but I wonder why they just ASSUME that a missing laundry bag was taken by the customer. I wonder how many people are unwittingly, and unfairly, charged for these laundry bags without ever having taken them? This would seem to be a pretty easy way to make a few million per year for DCL. This practice seems like customer repellant.

Following is the initial response from DCL, as well as my response back to them:

Hello, XXXX.

Thank you so much for your e-mail, as well as your patience with us.

I am so sorry for any confusion regarding the $10 charge. I've attached
a copy of your shipboard folio to make sure you a copy of the final
version. Our records indicate that the $10 charge was for a lost laundry
bag. If the in-stateroom laundry bag took an unexpected flight home with
you, we certainly understand that these things can happen and kindly ask
that you mail the item to my attention at the address below:

Disney Cruise Line
Attn: Joel / Guest Communications
Post Office Box 10,238

If you do not have the laundry bag, we will, of course, be happy to
process a refund of the charge.

Again, thank you for your e-mail. We look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

Joel Hayes

Thanks for your reply.

When we boarded the cruise, we did laundry the first day. We did not have a laundry bag in either cabin, so we asked our cabin steward for one. He gave us one, we used it, and carefully folded it and left it in the cabin.

So, we would kindly ask that the charge be reversed.

Thanks. XXXX
