Laughter, Tears & Screams- Two Aussies in WDW! New - 6/10 - The End!!

Except that as you board your little car, there's a voiceover that says, "Whatever you do, DO NOT press the blinking red light." Really!?

I knew as soon as I read this that you were going to push that little blinky red button!

I eventually told him that I had, indeed, pressed the red button at the end of the ride, and it gave me an extra 100,000 points!!

See, I told you you would push the button.

Then afterwards, I made a friend who wasn't so short. He was still creepy though.

IMG_9238.jpg

I realize I like tall guys, but that dude creeps me right out!

Next it was time for another of my favourite silly action movie rides - Twister!! It wasn't really a ride though - more of an explanation of how they made the wind and the rain and other special effects for the movie, Twister. At the end, we got to stand in the middle of a Twister, which was pretty fun!! Heh!

My DH would love that! The two of you do agree about the movie Twister. That's about it, though. :lmao:

Oh nooooo! E.T obviously wasn't programmed to pronounce tricky names like Conan!! So sad!! He just didn't say anything! Poor Conan!! :sad1:

Aww. Poor guy. :flower3:

Conan was desperate to beat me and press the red button himself this time - which of course, he did, and beat me! Boooooo!

Boys. They just can't let girls beat them at anything, can they? :upsidedow

Go oooooon, have a guess at what we did for the afternoon!! You know you want to!! :dance3:

Ooh! Ooh! I'll play! My guess is nap. There have been too many early breakfasts on this trip. :sad2:

More, more! Can you write faster??? popcorn::

This is so funny. It looks like he is plotting something. I have to give you guys credit for being able to get up so early! I just hope that when we go I can get up in time for rope drops. I don't have any breakfasts planned so far. It looks like we will be having cereal in our rooms!

Wow! You guys amaze me with getting up so early and then heading right on over to Universal. I think I would have been tempted to hit the snooze button!

We've done Universal several times and while I love the themes and decor, it really does lack that certain something. The vibe just isn't there for us either. Although DH tells me that my problem is that it isn't Disney. :rotfl:

Hmmmm...now if it were me...I'd be heading to a park when I got back, but I'm know I'm a bit crazy like that.

:lmao:
because they want you to walk through all those stores and SPEND MONEY!

the last time i went to universal studios was 1992 when i was 15. it was okay. i've never been to IOA so i'm looking forward to that. ray and i love roller coasters so we may do that one day.

City Walk was a definite ploy to spend more money!! We didn't actually even go into a store, so they didn't get any of our money! :moped:
We liked Islands of Adventure a LOT more than Universal!! But I'll tell you all about that soon. :)

This is such a great trip report! So much fun, AND so informative! I have never been to US, and even though some of the rides sound really neat, I know I'm not missing too much so far. Can't wait to read about IOA!

Wow, you were such a sport for KSC. I think that sounds like the most boring place ever, but then I'm not into space stuff. :confused3 Luckily for me, I don't think DH knows there's anything to see there, and I'm certainly not going to tell him! You are very sweet, though, and a great wife to your Conan!

I'm going to guess that the next thing you guys do is a nap. That's what I would choose! Searayers? You mentioned it was cold. I can't wait to find out! ;)

Thanks for your lovely comments!! I don't think you're missing much by not doing Universal Studios - some of the rides are fun, but then, so are the rides at Disney!! :confused3
KSC wasn't that bad! Some of it was actually a little bit interesting. I wouldn't go by myself, but then, Conan probably wouldn't go to Disney World by himself!! So it sorts itself out in the end. Hehee.
Ooh, thanks for your guess! A nap, hey?! Time will tell!! :rolleyes1

I guess: NAP! With all those early breakfasts, that has to be what you chose!

We're still trying to have a trip to Orlando that's long enough so we can afford a couple of days to hit Universal. Some day....... My boys are HUGE Simpsons fans, so we may have to fit it in soon!

Another guess for a nap!! Interesting!! :ssst:
How old are your boys? They'd probably love Universal and IoA, with Spiderman and Hulk and Shrek and The Simpsons, etc etc!! You'd better keep it a secret if you don't want to go there!

I knew as soon as I read this that you were going to push that little blinky red button!
See, I told you you would push the button.

Hehee, you know me too well!! :lmao:

I realize I like tall guys, but that dude creeps me right out!

I know!! He was a bit creepy!! He didn't say anything, just stared at people and looked down people's tops. Well I made that last part up, but he might have!!

My DH would love that! The two of you do agree about the movie Twister. That's about it, though. :lmao:

Oh yay!! At least we agree on something!! Heeee! Go Mr Trixie!! :cool1:

Boys. They just can't let girls beat them at anything, can they? :upsidedow

Totally! He was so sure I must have cheated. Which I did, but that wasn't the point! He couldn't accept that I might have actually beat him fair and square! Which I didn't. But whatever. Heh!

Ooh! Ooh! I'll play! My guess is nap. There have been too many early breakfasts on this trip. :sad2:

Way too many early breakfasts!! :faint: Thanks for your guess!

More, more! Can you write faster??? popcorn::

Whew, I'll try!!! Bossy-boots!! ;)

Cereal in your room sounds great!! After so many early breakfasts, we wished we could just sleep in occasionally, but alas, we'd already paid for the breakfasts with the Dining Plan, so it was a bit silly to skip them!

Wow! You guys amaze me with getting up so early and then heading right on over to Universal. I think I would have been tempted to hit the snooze button!

Ha! You hit the nail on the head there with Universal, I think - it just wasn't Disney!!
And believe me, we were tempted on many occasions to press to snooze button and go back to sleep on those early mornings! But at the same time, it was exciting too. I'd planned these days meticulously - I wasn't going to miss out on them just for another hour's sleep!! Hehee!

Thanks so much to all my lovely readers! It's great to know people are reading along!! :cheer2:

I'll have the next part up tomorrow, I hope! You'll finally get to see what we did that afternoon! (I know you're all holding your breath!! :lmao: )

Dang! It took me forever to finish reading your last installment. (life) Those churros look like they were as tall as the guy standing behind you!!:rotfl2: We love to get churros in Mexico. There's just something about greasy, sugary, fried flour mixture!! YUMMMY!

I know!! He was a bit creepy!! He didn't say anything, just stared at people and looked down people's tops. Well I made that last part up, but he might have!!

I guess there has to be some perk for walking around on stilts all day! :scared:

Oh yay!! At least we agree on something!! Heeee! Go Mr Trixie!! :cool1:

Yep, so far you have Twister and The Day After Tomorrow for sure, but he loves pretty much any disaster/action type movie. Well, any without Maggie that is. :rolleyes1

Whew, I'll try!!! Bossy-boots!! ;)

Wow! Great report. When I finished your dining report I came over here and started reading. It has taken me all day but I'm finally through it. I love all of your photos. They are great. So many places that you have been. Your wedding was beautiful, Hawaii looks awesome, what fun in NYC, Miami looks fun, and Key West is awesome! Thank you so much for taking the time to write both reports. Can't wait to see what your adventures bring you to next! :yay:

Wow....can't believe Universal was so empty!! But like you had said, most of the people were going to Isles of Adventure. Now this is only my opinion about what that park is lacking.......it's just not Disney! I've visited twice before IofA opened & while it was ok, it was missing something. I concluded as I said before......it just wasn't Disney.

I think you played some mini-golf!

Hi my lovely trip report friends!!!

I know I said I'd update tonight, but it's nearly midnight and I'm a bit exhausted! It was a long day at school today - lots of incredibly boring staff meetings about educational pedagogies.

My Dad is staying with us for a few days, so I thought I'd better spend some time with him tonight, but I will definitely update tomorrow instead, sorry!! :surfweb:

Churros are great, aren't they!?! I've actually never eaten a Disney churro... only at other theme parks! I'll have to try one from Mexico (in Epcot, I presume!) next time, on your recommendation! :thumbsup2

Well if all of us meet at Disney for Christmas 2012, Mr Trixie and I can have a blockbuster movie fiesta!! :cool1:

Jumping on board!

Welcome!! Thanks for popping in!! :)

Hiya, and welcome!! I'm glad you've joined us!
Thanks for all your nice comments - it was so much fun to visit all those fantastic places, and it's great to share our experiences with you guys, too!

You're so right - Universal just isn't Disney!! Is there anything as good as Disney!!? :cool1:
Mini-golf, hey!? Hmmmm... I'll be sharing what we did very soon! :yay:

I'll be back with the next update tomorrow!! Right now, I'm off to bed! :faint: Night everybody!! (Even though it's early in the morning for you in America!!)

I've never tasted a Disney churro either! We're going in June, so maybe I can convince DH to get some.

Just caught up with yuor report. Great job!

That tall creepy guy had it in for me the last time we were at Universal. He chased me down to help take pictures with him of other people. Then when we went in the ride later he hid (i know hard to believe but he did) and pulled my ponytail when I passed. Scared the crap out of me. :rotfl: My DH found that quite amusing though.

Hi Julie!
I just found your trip report and read through the updates so far. I'm loving it!!:thumbsup2 You and Conan are so cute! Especially your wedding pics! Loved those. I look forward to your next update!:)

I can't be the only who had to look up pedogogies, right???

:confused3

:lmao:

Hopefully today is better!

Ooh, you should definitely get a churro in June!! Have one for me, too!! Yum!!

How funny!! Maybe he liked you! ;) What a job - to just walk around on stilts all day and freak people out!
Thanks for reading, and welcome!!!

Today was a much better day at school!! Are you inspired to be a teacher now, after reading about educational pedagogies!? :3dglasses

Next chapter coming up now! :surfweb:

Well, thanks for all your guesses about what we did that afternoon, everybody!! You all must know me pretty well, because lots of you guessed that we had a nap! That was totally my choice. BUT.....!!! Conan had other ideas!

He wanted to play mini-golf! In our little booklet of freebies we received when we checked in, there was a voucher for a free game of mini-golf, and we just had to put it to good use!! I'll admit it - we're mini-golf nerds. I grew up playing mini-golf with my Dad and brother every time we'd go on vacation. We played proper rules - you can't just whack the ball when you play with us - it has to be done very carefully and with the utmost of precision! :lmao:

That afternoon though, I was pretty tired and really just wanted an afternoon nap. But as soon as I lay down, Conan jumped on the bed to give me a little shake-up and said, "YOU'RE IN DISNEY WORLD!!!!!" Yayyyyyyyyyyyyy!!! Sometimes you just need a reminder to make the most of things!! So we were off to mini-golf!!

On the way though, we had to fulfil another mission - to get some frozen coke from Pop Century!!! Conan looooves frozen coke and was devestated when he discovered the Wilderness Lodge didn't have any. We stayed at Pop in 2006 and frozen coke was probably the highlight of our stay at Pop. Hheheheee. That's terrible, but you know what I mean!

So we hopped in the car, and headed to Pop! It was actually nice to revisit again, and say hi to our first Disney resort. Awww, Pop!! It brought back lots of happy, fun memories!

No time to waste though - we were off to the food court area to snag some frozen coke!! We'd brought our refillable mugs with us, so we were armed and ready. Tadaaaaah!! Can't you see the look of excitement on his face!? :lmao:

IMG_9247.jpg

We enjoyed our frozen cokes on a chair overlooking the pool area outside. Nice!! It was pretty chilly, but look! There were a few brave people in the Pop pool! We tried not to point and laugh.

IMG_9245.jpg

And yes, of course we went back for frozen coke seconds!! :thumbsup2

Then it was off to Winter-Summerland Mini-Golf!! Yayyyy!!

IMG_9262.jpg

I didn't realise how close it is to Blizzard Beach! It literally is right next door. We parked in the little mini-golf carpark, along with about 3 other cars, and headed in...

IMG_9261.jpg

So we had to choose which side of the course we wanted to play - either Summer or Winter. Hmmm. We went with the Winter side - it reminded us of Blizzard Beach and it looked a bit more fun.

Hello Santa!!

IMG_9260.jpg

All ready to play!

IMG_9259.jpg

It was really quiet on the courses - perfect!! There were a couple of guys behind us and that was about it! The theming of the course was very cute - lots of wintery, Christmas fun. :thumbsup2

IMG_9252.jpg

Conan, of course, beat me. Bummer!! It was lots of fun though, and I'm so glad we went Disney mini-golfing instead of sleeping. It was something new that we'd never done, and it was a nice way to spend a chilly afternoon. We even contemplated playing the Summer course afterwards, but no. We decided to head back to our room for a rest before our big dinner at California Grill that night. :woohoo:

So we went back to the Wilderness Lodge, and rested, showered, and beautified ourselves for our dinner. We were really looking forward to our ADR at California Grill. Great food and great wine, what's not to like!!?

Hmmm. If you've read my dining reviews, you'll already know about our California Grill experience. Needless to say, it wasn't our favourite meal. In fact, it ended up being one of our least favourite meals. The food was good, but our server wasn't!! To put it nicely, it seemed like she would have been more at home serving at the Whispering Canyon Cafe. Hehehee, that's mean, but she couldn't answer any of questions about the food or wine menu - she just kept saying, "I've just returned from vacation, sorry!" Hehheee, alrighty then...

Our appetizers arrived right when Wishes was about to start too, so we had to choose - Wishes, or our appetizers!?! We decided to go outside on the balcony and watch Wishes, although we really couldn't see much anyway! For some reason, I'd imagined the balcony would be massive, but it was actually pretty small and everybody was squished in like sardines!! Oh dear! The music was pretty though. Wishes do come truuuuuuuue!

To top off our meal, our server took a blurry photo of us. Hehheee. Nice one!!

IMG_9275.jpg

Anyway, it wasn't all bad. The food was nice and the wine was great - the atmosphere and service just wasn't what I'd imagined it to be! Maybe my expectations were too high?! :confused3

By the time we arrived home at the WL, we were pooped!! Dinner had lasted nearly 3 hours - whew! That's a marathon eating event. With full bellies, we were straight off to bed for a good night's sleep before our big day at Islands of Adventure!! :yay:

I think that bad service can sometimes make the food taste worse! Sorry to hear that it wasn't the greatest.

Wow! You guys had a VERY full day! You definately made the most of it. Too bad that your dinner wasn't all that you wanted it to be.

All caught up on your TR!! What a great time you have had up till now. I feel like I am reading a great book and can't wait for the next chapter. popcorn:: Thank You so much for sharing your vacation!!!

rum or vanilla vodka is also GREAT in those frozen cokes! :thumbsup2

we've never been to cali grill. i've been tempted to go because of all the hype but have resisted. i don't know - just not interested. i think the next trip our "big fancy" meal is gonna be at flying fish. that placed smelled SO GOOD last time i walked by it. i have to go there one day!
