We were at Guest Services july 18th at Epcot to ask a question. ALL the CMs at Guest Services were handing out free latex balloons to the children.

As you might remember my son has a severe latex allergy. I wanted to give a heads-up to those with the allergy to be careful if they go to guest services. I did ask Tom a CM there about the handing out of these balloons before I left. He quickly blew one up and started to hand it to me. I told him we can't accept it as my son is allergic. The other kids were loving them and since they were long balloons, they were using them as swords and fighting each other. Tom informed me that all the guest services have balloons to hand out to the guests, except Animal Kingdom where they are not allowed. He also said that there are places onsite that make balloon animals for the guests as well. My son stayed outside of guest services with his dad, and he did not have any problems that day.

I asked if Disney had any type of list that would list where latex could be found on any of the attractions. He said he wasn't aware of any, so he called the disabilities office. The person he talked to, said there is no list. I was told I could ask at each ride, but that the ride operators may or may not know. He assured me that each attraction has paramedics. I should have asked if the paramedics had equipment that was latex-free, but I didn't think to ask that at the time.

It's back to school time. Here is a link to latex free school products.

The Earl of Sandwich shop at DTD uses vinyl gloves.

( I called today since we are eating there tomorrow. When I called Disney Dining they were unable to give me a phone number and they didn't have information on any of the non-disney owned restaurants. I was able to contact the Tampa Earl for direct number into the DTD Earl. Spoke with Don who said they have only vinyl gloves at this time.)

My son had a reaction last night to a baked good from Publix. I called the Publix bakery and they said they have both latex and vinyl gloves. The bakery personelle suggested I call in advance to order baked goods made and request no latex gloves int he food prep.

I want to respond to your question about the paramedics- I am not a paramedic in Florida but I have been an Emergency Medical Technican with the fire department for 6 years. I also work at a highly visited beach on Long Island (Jones Beach).

As health care providers, we are VERY much aware of latex and latex allergies. Our gloves were switched over to completely non-latex about 4 years ago on the ambulance even though we had always carried non-latex gloves.

In this day and age it is stupid and irresponsible (my opininion) for health care providers to be carrying around solely latex equipment. I would doubt paramedics, especially those at disney would risk making a situation worse with their own latex contaminated equipment unless extremely necessary.

That's what I was thinking too, however, my son was doing junior lifeguard training at the local public pool. He had to bring his own gloves because the center only had latex gloves, so that brought up the question in my head.

Just another heads-up.

The Cheesecake Factory Express at Disney Quest uses latex gloves.
