Latest School Shooting

I have a childhood friend whose child goes to that school and was in the class where the shooting took place. She has not been able to reach her child yet and all of us are terrified.

I pray that the shootings will stop happening, but in the meantime I pray that only gun owners are shot in future attacks. People need to reap what they sow.
I'm sure that you are upset and frustrated but that's too much in my opinion. Most gun owners seem to be just as angry about this.

22 school shootings in the USA since Jan 1st seems statistically significant to me.
To you perhaps, but realistically when you look at the number of incidents that claim lives it's not. I know that you (general you) can come at it from an emotional angle but from a look at incidents with guns but not shootings at schools, deaths by other means like car accidents, etc it's not significant and in terms of looking at possible solutions making every school have metal detectors..is not realistic.

I would be careful what you say about that. No one should wish people die and in ways that's no better than someone going in and shooting people. Those students did nothing but be at school, you're calling for gun owners to be shot for doing nothing but owning a gun.

I don't know what the answer should be to stop these senseless acts. Yet if there's TSA like security in schools what's to stop someone from spraying bullets at school football games or during P.E.? People can't stop a person's free will or choice to cause harm to others. When there's a will there's a way. I will say there needs to be more love in this world.

There are things in place to reduce and prevent deaths by other means (like car accidents). Seat belt laws, helmet laws, licensing, training, insurance, etc have all been put in place to reduce deaths. To date school shootings haven't been able to create the same and given the number that have occurred in a short period of time in one country, I would say that is statistically significant.

For real, do we have to have this thread again? Just read the last one, or the one before that, or the one before that, or the 10 before that.

Just ignore this kind of news and move on. It's a new fact of life, and apparently no one really cares to change it.

I mean we can go all day long about this but emotionally one may say it but in terms of actual deaths it's not. Hell there's been 81 homicides in my metro (15 counties between 2 states) alone this year and over 200 last year and as much as I hate the thought of anyone being killed possible solutions need to be realistic and they need to be appropriate.

Curious how insurance prevents or reduces death by car?

My state requires you to have insurance to drive a car. That keeps some very bad drivers off the roads. The gun owners seem to think anyone should own a gun unless they are a felon. There are a lot of people out there with mental issues or total lack of training that should not own guns, but the gun owners do not seem to care enough to make changes.

What a state requires and what a person does are two different things. There are many people out there without insurance. There are also states that either require no minimum insurance (FL for one) or have very low state minimums which hardly do any protection.

But insurance in itself doesn't prevent deaths nor does it reduce it. Insurance is a financial responsibility aspect.

maybe its different in florida, but from what I know, once people see their insurance rates after getting a couple of tickets or a drunk driving they drive a lot safer.

That's an individual thing though. How many times have you heard of accidents where the person had their license suspended, have had multiple DUIs or DWIs, etc.

Insurance by virtue of it being insurance doesn't prevent nor reduce death by vehicles. Insurance is solely a financial responsibility, that's it.

And not all fatalities in car accidents are by fault, sometimes it's by sheer accident. Insurance didn't prevent that death.

I think most states require insurance to drive. It’s their to make a victim whole in the event of an accident, not to prevent death as the pp was stating.
Curious how you believe training will prevent such acts?If a person is deemed mentally deficient they cannot own a firearm. The problem is in defining and reporting mental issues.

So, if I shoot someone, and my insurance goes up, I will be more careful in the future?

we could ask the can

As usual its all a big joke, do you honestly think driving would be safer if people did not have to pay for insurance. I see those high school kids hot rod around and think to myself, give them a month and they will not be driving.

As for training, I am amazed gun owners fight this. Just unreal. Is there a reason we train the military and police but not dentists in firearm safety

At the very least your insurance would pay for part of your mayhem and people wouldn’t have to start Go Fund Me campaigns to pay medical or funeral bills.
