Sensible gun laws.
We had an incident at our HS about a video posted based on a school shooting. Dd told me, we contacted the school (as did many other parents), kid has been expelled. Back in the day, most kids wouldn’t have reported it, no one likes to be a snitch, but they’ve been taught to say something.Yup, so much safer.
How about when we, as teachers, report a student who perhaps is a danger to themselves or others, somethings done about it. We have a student in our building who has threatened teachers and other students, but because of his disability we can do nothing about it. Sure we can - find an alternative setting for him.
How about we listen to the kids. Better yet, teach them that if they hear something, say something. Saying something to a teacher about a possible fight or dangerous situation isn't snitching. Unfortunately we have to change this mindset of parents, not just the kids.
Let's look at what other countries are doing, other than the lack of ability to get weapons. Smaller schools, more activities, more sense of belonging.
How about parent involvement. While kids are amazing at hiding things, parents do need to know what's going on in their kids' lives.
If your child is an issue, do something. Don't make excuses. Don't push blame away from where it really belongs. Teach your child to take responsibility.
Give the schools the resources they need.
In the past 30 years, 150 kids and adults have died in school shootings. To put it in perspective, 1600 children die EVERY year in car accidents. Nope, not in favor of throwing millions of dollars at this, especially at the expense of education. Media induced fear makes folks think rare events are likely events.
Interviews with mass killers show a desire to make a mark on the world, to be known for what they are going to do. The more these events are talked about and covered in the press and online the more copycats will be inspired. Take away that notoriety and you reduce that motive. Do not publicly name suspects. Minimal coverage. No news specials.
Obviously not the guns...
Other things?Yes it is. If we put other things above making them safe how are we valuing their lives?
Like the right to own a gun?
Just going by the dictionary definition of a "militia" et al, I'm not sure your average Joe has a right as such to own a firearm, but that's a whole other can of worms.

We should implement tougher gun las/ ban assault rifles in order to save lives. To save lives?
Oh no! She hasn't been able to reach her yet? It's been hours. My thoughts go out to your friend. Please keep us updated!I have a childhood friend whose child goes to that school and was in the class where the shooting took place. She has not been able to reach her child yet and all of us are terrified.
I pray that the shootings will stop happening, but in the meantime I pray that only gun owners are shot in future attacks. People need to reap what they sow.

No one would argue against that fact.
There is a difference though in treating something like it's statistically high when in reality, while horrific when it happens, it is not at this present moment significantly high to counterbalance some of the overhauls people here and elsewhere have proposed.

I've always wondered how a militia became everyone. I guess that if I had a gun I'd be in the militia too.Just going by the dictionary definition of a "militia" et al, I'm not sure your average Joe has a right as such to own a firearm, but that's a whole other can of worms.
