Just thought I'd share our latest Hertz experience. We got them through Priceline for our last trip and the next one coming up. For our last several trips, we've had Alamo and Avis, and the lines have been long (even at Avis, which is unusual). When we arrived downstairs, we didn't see the Hertz bus waiting there as usual. I was just going to pull out my cell phone to call when one came pulling up...I should have known I wouldn't need to call. We climbed on, along with another party, and set off to the lot. There was a lane closure right outside the North airport exit, but since it was late (after midnight), that didn't delay us. Hertz had the longest line I've run into yet (four parties in front of us), but they were well staffed so we were climbing into our car less than 25 minutes from arriving downstairs at the airport. We were upgraded from economy to compact. When we get a Chevy Cavalier from the other agencies, it never has the keb fob locker, but the ones from Hertz have it, which is a big convenience. All in all, another good experience. Don't fear the offsite!

Glad to hear you had a great Hertz experience. More people should try Hertz. It is quick, easy to get to, no waiting for the shuttle.

We also had a great experience with hertz. Driver put our luggage in the luggage compartment for us and when we arrived at hertz he took it out for us also. I had just signed up to be a gold member and our car was waiting with our name on it. We got in and at the exit we gave them our signed paper stating we'd refil the gas tank before returing the car and away we went. The return of the car was just as easy. Susan

We had great service with Hertz in March. The bus was waiting for us and returned us to the airport promptly for out return flight at 5:30 in the morning.

The only precaution you need to take is bring your documentation with you. If you book online or by phone, document everything and it helps to have a print out. Our reservation rate was not honored because the coupon we used supposedly was not good after 12:00 PM. The coupon did not state this but we brought our reservation, which clearly had our airline arrivial time and they were able to make the computer do the right thing.

It's amazing what they can do if you press them a little. A couple of times I have been able to get an upgrade or reduced rate. I use the old sugar is better than vinegar method.

However I got lucky on my last rental. I ordered a Premium car with a deal to pay for a full size car. Got to the pickup location and no premium car. The lucky part of it was someone just returned a Cadillac DeVille. So it turns out I ended up paying for a full size and driving a luxury car. Not bad, a double upgrade.

In short, they will work with you when they can.

We used them once. It was OK, but had a long counter wait at the site. In addition we were given a had time about a coupon from a professional association I belong to. First they wanted to see the coupon which I had, then they demanded to see my association membership card which they made a copy of. I asked what would happen if I did not have my membership card and was told the discount coupon would be denied. She also said a lot of people do not have the card when they were asked.

I did not mind asking to see the card, but calling the supervisor who then took the card into an office to make a copy seemed wierd. They stapled their copy to their copy of the rental agreement. I called the association when I got back and they issued me a new card and ID number.

That does seem over the top. They must have had problems. I would let Hertz customer service know about this.
