Late trip planning

My DH and 2 DS were invited to a beach trip with my inlaws to Naples, Fl. We had resigned to the idea of not going to Disney this year. Well my inlaws just decided today that we should drive and go to Disney on the way to the beach with my niece and nephew (9 and 5 years old). We, we would check in to the resort in just 42 days.

Has anyone had much luck in getting the dining and FP they want in this short of amount of time? They are going to trust that we can get everything planned perfectly and I have always had 10-12 months to plan. And now it's last minute planning with 8 people!

I think fairy dust will help :)

The Availability post linked to in my signature below may help answer your question about FPs.

I booked my trip less than thirty days out, and was able to get some great FP+s and ADRs (though admittedly just with 2 people, not 8). Use touringplans Reservation Finder, and maybe look for reservations for 4 people, rather than 8 at a time?

We leaving tomorrow and I booked our trip 42 days out. I was able to book every Fastpass I want at a time close to when I wanted it and was able to get the ADR I wanted including pre park opening BOG, T-Rex Cafe, Via Nipoli (not all are my preferred times, but they are times that work). I did use the Touring Plans dinning finder with great success.

Edited to add: it was just two of us, so your success may be different with a large party.

We decided on going over New years only about 6 weeks out.
For the most part, we did pretty good with the FP and adrs I think. Now we got the FPs mid day to late afternoon so by the time we used our 3 FP s , there wasn't a lot left. With the exception of Peter pan, we did get most ofthe FPs that we wanted though. And the adrs we did better than expected. We were able to get le cellier and tusker house with decent times, for example.
If you can be less picky about the times, you may do okay.

Thanks for all the words of encouragement!

The trip isn't booked yet. This will be our 11th trip, but my niece and nephew have never been. Grandparents are still deciding how many days they want to go, and making sure my sister in law won't have hurt feelings if they are the ones to take the little ones to Disney for the first time. My hubby and I have tried to explain that the decision needs to be made ASAP and that is the only way we can start planning the FP. At this point grandpa only wants to go 2-3 days, grandma wants to go 4-5 days. We decided that we will be adding on days to the front of the trip and spending more time there.

They told us they will be relying on us for all the planning. Each hour that goes by we look at each other and know it's going to be harder and harder to get them in to something princessy! That's a lot of pressure.

Have fun. We want Via Napoli too!

I almost always have a very short advance planning window because of my husband's job. There is no way we could book 10-12 months out, because there is no way for him to know if he'll be able to go with us that far in advance. We're a family of six, and since my parents and my grandmother live in FL we often go to Disney as a party of 8 or 9. Just be flexible when you're making your ADRs and FP+. If you can't get what you want, just keep checking back. Things do open at the last minute, even for larger parties. Have a great time!
