Late night check-in..

We are going to be arriving around 10 pm in a rented RV. We have never camped in an RV so have no idea the procedures you are required to perform. What would be the 1st and most important thing required? Could we do the extras the next day? I know that when we go and p/u the RV they will go over everything with him and he is very good at these things, I am just worried about it being so dark.

The first thing plug in electric. That will give you A/C and lights. You can hold off on any thing else. But if you want water it would be next, both are very easy. The rest can hold off to next day. :

I agree, plug in and level the unit as best you can and then leave all else till the AM. Everyone has their own way of setting up and it isnt all that tough but for someone with a new or unfamiliar RV it would be better to wait until the daylight. You may even wants to reposition the unit in the AM. The comfort station are failry close so you could always use them for clean up till you get fully setup.
be ready to have some fun, Fort Wilderness is one of the friendliest places you will ever travel to, even the grumpy people dont seem all that bad when you are at WDW.

We arrived last year at dusk. My husband accidently hit one of the very short, brown, trashcans and put a small dent in his new truck. That would be the only problem I could see you having! The trashcans are hard enough to see in daylight! I was in the back watching were he was backing so I could not be on every side at once.!

Thanks all...My DH pulls a really long trailer with a 20,000 pound machine on a daily basis! I will have him do the electricity that night and he wakes up really early , (way before me or DD) and can do the rest, including the water!

When you go to get the rv, ask them what is the first thing you must do. If your rv has slideouts, you probably will have to level first and then put slides out and then hook up power. We don't have slides or jacks in our rv so the first thing I do is check for level and correct if needed and then power up.

Many find it helpful to video the instructions given when getting the rv so there is a quick reference to go back to if needed.

It is pretty dark in the loops and we don't have a back-up camera with sound so we have a set of hand held walkies. With these DW doesn't have to talk too loud when helping me back in and that way we don't disturb the neighbors too much.

I agree with all the above posts. You may not have to worry too much about levelling, because the concrete pads are already level. But if your levels are saying you are out, make sure you level according to them, because with our RV, if we are out our fridge doesn't work properly. Have a blast. Oh one more thing, if the RV doesn't come with, and probably doesn't since it's a rental, some sort of patio/awning lights, pick some up. Usually about $10-$20 for a 10'strand. The loops are dark, and it makes it easier at night coming back from the parks or the campfire. You can always use them when you get back home, or pack away for when you buy your own RV.

Rents units I have seen don't have slideout or awnings. If you are coming late just Plug in Electric. I seen poeple that never level there RV at FW becouse the concrete pads are already level. When we come in late i Plug in the Electric hit the auto levelers get ready for bed we carry about 200 gal of water so i hook up the water and waste in the morring. No awnings or slides on this rig! We will just plug in the electricity and go from there. I am looking so forward to this trip, it is something I have always wanted to do but never had the time or money to rent before.

What a great idea! I wish we had thought of that back in 1997 when we rented a motorhome for our first stay in FW. So much better than trying to remember everything.

We've used these for years and they were one of the best investments we have ever made. My husband and I have a pretty good set of hand signals down pat, but they don't do much good at night.
