Right now I'm thinking about making reservations for late may (May 28 to June 5). But one of the disney crowd calenders sites this as one of the worst weeks to go. I really don't want to take my daughter out of kinder for a vacation. We went mid may this year, and it was already really hot ( I actually got heat exhaustion). Has anyone been during this time of year? How was the weather and crowds.

You are worried about taking your kids out of Kindergarten?

May I politely ask why?

Is there something that they might miss which will make them have to repeat Kindergarten ? Are they going to miss a valuable life skill in that 1 week that they simply cannot live without?

Seriously though, If you really do not want to take your kids out of Kindergarten, then yoo have to understand that everyone else will be vacationing at the same time as you are, and the crowds are going to be really really big.

Its a fairly black and white decision. Take the kids out of Kindergarten at a time when relatively few people are vacationing, or wait, and brave the crowds.

the later the date the hotter it gets...it's Florida....and the reason it will be so crowded (and it will) is beacause that is Gay Days at Disney. I'd be more worried about that then taking my kids out of school when it's a bit cooler and not so crowded;)

We went that same week this past May and we are going again in 2011. I honestly didn't think it was too bad. Now keep in mind the only time I have ever been before is in July. The only day I really noticed the crowds being bad was on Memorial Day. So far as Gay Days they officially started while we where there and I never noticed a thing.

We were there May 21-30 this year. It was hot and humid but not as bad as in late June/July (DH&I visited prior to having kids then). We only got rain on the last 2 days of our trip and it wasn't a big deal to us since we were re-visiting MK for the 2nd/3rd time. We took DD out of Kindergarden as well, and her teacher wasn't concerned at all about it. In fact, another classmate also visited WDW the same month:)

This is one of my favorite weeks to go. Other than the hot weather, we have never had a problem. The only down side is they do the Flower and Garden Festival earlier so I am readjusting my times to go.

We went for our first Disney trip Memorial weekend this year and we are going again for Memorial Day in 2011. It was hot and crowded, but my son was just out of school for the summer, so it was the perfect time for my family. And we had a great time. We went at our own pace, so the crowds were manageable. We knew we could not experience everything with the crowds, so we didn't even try.

We went that week last year and it was NOT bad at all. I remember being in bigger crowds during the star wars parade ad that was at DHS (I know it was either a Sat. or Sun) I would do it all again. If you are worried about gay week-don't be. I just looked up the event calendar and went to a different park where the events weren't taking place. I think that def. helped with the crowd levels. Go and have fun! Maybe do more relaxing on the weekend and tour during the week. One good thing is that the parks will be open later because it is around a holiday. In early May the parks usually close earlier.

Our trip is booked for May 20-28, 2011. I keep reading mixed things about crowds during this time. Since you went at basically the same time this year, can you give me any insight on what the crowds were like. We are planning to go to Star Wars at Hollywood Studios on Saturday (21st), so I expect that to be busy. But touring plans has really low crowd levels for the other parks for the rest of the week. I'm crossing my fingers that that's the case??? Help!!!:scared1:

Don't mean to butt in, but I have travelled to Disney the week you are considering the last 4 years so I thought I would share my experiences too if you are interested. The crowds are very manageable the week you are considering but will get worse the closer you get to Memorial Day. I have been there during Memorial Day week too (2006) and crowds are significantly heavier the week of the actual holiday-but still they are manageable. Star Wars Weekends are very busy at DHS. I would recommend getting in as early as possible. You can knock out a lot before everyone else is up and moving. :goodvibes On Wednesday of the week you have chose, we find MK to be almost vacant. Hope you have a great trip!

Yay! I'm so glad you jumped in!!! This is GREAT news!! Our last day at Disney will be Thursday the 26th, so hopefully we'll miss the Memorial Day crowds. I was planning on going to MK on Tuesday, based on Touring Plans recommendations. The crowd level is only 2.9 for that day. Have you ever used the touring plans website recommendations? I'm just wondering how accurate they are?

I use touring plans recommendations nearly every trip. They are pretty accurate though I think some of their calculations are swayed to whether or not you are on property. We are usually on property and find that Extra Magic Hours are worth the effort especially the evening ones. :goodvibes Also, keep checking back, because the calculations will change based on the data they collect in the months preceding. Just keep your eyes peeled and your plan flexible. You're going to have a great time! It's a beautiful time to be in Florida!:thumbsup2

Thank you so much! I am reading your last trip report and loving every bit of it! I wrote one too, but it was my first so I didn't do the introduction thing, etc. It's quite funny though! I don't know how to put it on with my signature. Want to clue me in on that too? Please? :lovestruc

Happy May 2011 travels, everyone!!!!

Sorry for the delayed response we are trying to get back on schedule at my house. :) To put a hyperlink in your signature you can do the following: Go to edit signature, put your cursor where you would like the hyperlink to be in your signature and then click on the globe with a chainlink. In another tab of your browser go to your TR. Highlight the web address or URL of your TR, right click then click on copy. Then go to the previous tab you opened and paste your URL into the box labeled URL. It will have http:// in front - just overwrite it. Then Click OK. Once you do that you will see part of the address highlighted in your signature, that is where you can type over whatever words you would like to see in your siggie. I always preview my signature just to make sure I didn't make any boo boos. After that you just save your siggie.

Hope that helps!!

Totally helped! Check out my new signature!!! I CAN be taught! :woohoo:

The last two years we've gone down the end of May/first of June for Star Wars Weekends and only Memorial Day seemed really crowded. Of course DHS was pretty packed (and the standby line for Toy Story Midway Mania was ridiculously long...get a fast pass for that before you do anything else!!) but we coped just fine. It was definitely do-able.

The thing to keep in mind is that you may not be able to do everything on your list, but you can do alot!
