Late flight out of FLL, what to do?

I am travelling with my mom and my two boys on the Wonder out of Miami. After our cruise our flight doesn't leave until 9:15pm...

Any recommendations on how to spend the day?
What is the FLL airport like?
Any day rooms available at hotels close to there?

how about the Everglades? Shark River is within an hour or 90 minutes of FLL. We enjoyed our time there. We took the tram tour.
