Not quite sure where to post this. Moderator, please move if you need to. We have a really crappy arrival time into Orlando. 10:50 pm! Our departure flight is 12:22 pm. We will eat breakfast before departing. We will have have to connect through Albuquerque, NM so will eat lunch at the airport there. I know my kids will get off the plane and the first thing that will fly out of their lips is "I'm hungry!" Is there going to be anywhere to eat or pick something up that late at night between MCO and Lake Buena Vista or will we bed down with hungry tummy! Any opinions or advice? Thanks! :mickeybar

Some airlines sell meals now that might be your best option. Otherwise, I'd maybe go somewhere in Albuquerque and get some cold sandwiches (ie Subway) and get them in a bag "to go" so you have something for later on in your flight when they get hungry.

Otherwise, that late at night, if you have a rental car you can maybe do a drive by fast food thing. I know there's a McD's at the Crossroads.

I'd call your airline and see if they will have meals for sale on that second leg. Ask what the usual options are. If there's something you think the kids might go for, then you might be covered. Otherwise bring some PBJs or get some sandwiches in ABQ.

OR you could let them graze on snacks the whole time. FOr one day, that won't hurt them and at least they won't be starving.

The Orlando airport website lists the MacDonald's in the food court as being open until 11 PM and that there is a deli type sandwich place that is open 24 hours a day.

There is a Wendy's just down the road from Hotel Blvd/Crossroads that is open late.

We've eaten there a couple of times when we just needed a light quick meal.

We have similar flight times. We arrive at 12:15 w/two kids. I am bringing sandwiches/snacks on board in a little cooler. I like knowing we have lunch in case there is a delay and we arrive even later.

Crossroads is a good place to start. I know the Pizzeria Uno is open to at least midnight and you can order to go if you just want to pick it up and bring it to your hotel. You could probably call the order in when you land so it would be ready for pick-up by the time you get to Lake Buena Vista.

Ditto. I always pack a small soft sided cooler bag and fill it with a couple of sandwiches, snacks and drinks.

Pack your food. One of our carryons is a small collapsible cooler, which I fill with munchies and drinks in case of delays. I have a deli near my house that I just call the previous day and pay by CC; they have our order wrapped and ready to go at the time I request, so I just make a quick pitstop to pick it up on the way to the airport.

One unbreakable rule I adhere to when travelling is to NEVER put off eating; if I see something that looks acceptable, I get it right then. DH always wants to hold out for better food or a more appropriate mealtime, "I'll eat when we arrive", or "I'll eat at the layover airport." Problem is, too often you find out that there is no food available when you are ready for it, or you get a flight delay that means that your layover is too short to allow for eating, or you get through security only to find that there is no food airside, and then you have the choice to have to go through security again if you want to eat.
Better to carry food with you and eat it when you have the opportunity. With kids, don't discount how much boredom is staved off by time spent eating on the flight; it helps.

Don't know where you are staying, but when DH & I check-in after a late-arriving flight, we love to change into pajamas and order room service

We had a late arrival into MCO on one of our WDW trips, got in so late we stayed at the MCO Hyatt - on points :) ! Anyway, we walked around MCO, thinking we could pick up a little something, ended up at the McDonald's. Stood in a sllloooow-moving line, got up to the counter, ordered our food (some grilled chicken sandwiches)...

"Excuse me, what type of sandwich is that?"
"It's the crispy chicken."
"Don't you have any of the grilled chicken sandwiches?"
"No."
(No offer to cook up something else, etc... We left, went back to the Hyatt, where we enjoyed out check-in amenity of a fruit/cheese plate - yummm!)
If it were me, I would have something with you, either PB&J sandwiches from home or perhaps sandwiches from your connecting airport.
Also, the idea of having the phone number of a convenient restaurant that is open late and phoning your order in when you land at MCO is brilliant.
And there's always that Wendy's :) ...

Good luck,
agnes!

I would suggest taking a few sandwiches along - as well a fruit, granola bars and maybe even weight watcher bar or energy bar. keep in mind, too that while the clock says 10:50 their tummy's are 2-3 hours earlier than that because of the time change. They might not be as hungry and you think they'll be.

I also agree with the others who posted that you should pack some food and take it with. Everyone can then eat when they want, especially closer to normal meal times (almost midnight seems like an awful late time to be filling your stomaches with a full meal). Also, you can control the content of the food, and pack healthy options for your kids. If your connecting flight is delayed for any reason, you also will be prepared with a food stash.

The McDonald's near the AllStar hotels is open 24 hours...with a limited menu of course. (don't know if you are staying on property.)
