Late Checkout

We have asked for and gotten late check-out numerous times at WDW resorts. We always ask the night before check-out. I put this in bold as many people have replied that you need to ask for it the morning of check-out and that's simply not true. If memory serves me correctly, we were only granted late check-out up to 1 pm. If you are staying in a DVC villa (which it sounds like your aren't as you mention a suite), they can never grant late check-out. I would recommend going to the front desk when you arrive back from the park on your last night and making the request. That way you'll know before you go to bed if you can sleep in later. Also, put the do not disturb sign on your door. We always do this and have never been disturbed on our check-out day.

More conflicting stories!!! I am starting to think I am being told it is not possible by DVC members and that it is by regular resort guests. Either way, I will give what you suggested a shot though and see what happens. Sounds much better than trying to request a late check-out at 6:30am after going to bed at 2am.

Why ask for late checkout every time if you don't need it? It makes it more difficult for the housekeepers and could delay things for the people checking in after you.

I think you are overthinking this. Go and have fun.

I meant to say every time we have a late night before, which would be a good portion of the time. We go big at Disney and take advantage of every second we can, especially in the parks.

I don't need a late check out, but don't want to woken up by housekeeping. Do you think I should make a sign that says: we are here and checking out at 11?
We are doing a split stay between BC & GF. I hate to think of spending all that money for the week and wanting to sleep in but being unable to on 2 days (especially the last day). o_O
Not necessary. Call Housekeeping the night before you leave and let them know you'll be in the room right up into 11.

Some posts are telling me I will be bothered at 8am while others are telling me I will not get a knock at the door until 11am. Even here, I am getting conflicting stories.
Everybody here who reports either experience is reporting their personal experience. Many factors go into determine whether and how many late checkouts will be allowed.
I agree. If you are not out by 11:01am, then housekeeping can come bother you, but if it is 8am, or even 10:30am, and the Do Not Disturb sign is up then that is a little much. How do they know that I not considering staying longer? What exactly do they do to the room that it takes more than four hours to clean? I am sure Disney has a cleaning system that ensures efficiency. If it is true that most guests leave the sign on the door when they check-out and many are gone by 8am, then maybe Disney needs to have a better way to know when guests are gone. The guests who are still there should not be bothered because of other guests trying to get home on time.
It's the guest's responsibility to provide reasonable notice to the hotel of intent to stay longer. Thirty minutes, or even three hours, isn't reasonable, considerate, or being a good guest.

As far as I know, and with advance authorization, 1 PM late checkout is no extra charge, 3 PM you pay 50% of one night's room cost, later than 3 PM you play for a full night.

Housekeeping has never disturbed us on checkout day before 11am and we always check out right before 11am. We always keep our "Do not Disturb" sign out.

I agree with Disneylover99. We have gone to DW 10 times in the last 4 years and never once had a knock on the door on our checkout day before 11am with out Do Not Disturb sign out. We never leave before checkout. We were given a late check out about 3 times and 2 times we were denied.

We stay out late especially on our last night so our teens love to sleep in.

To the OP - as for what the charge is to check out late- I don't know. Sorry.

Good to know since I have had many people tell me about getting late checkouts at Disney before, with few of them being coworkers who I am going to Disney last minute with. I know a couple are a little on the slower side and take a while to get up in the morning. The fear of being charged a lot might get them going, but who knows. They are the ones who are adamant about getting a late checkout since they have done so in the past.

How long has it been since they went to Disney? A lot of things have changed there in just a few years.

No problem. Sounds like your touring style is similar to ours. Disney is much more fun at night!

Well, quite a few of us were there over spring break in late March and met up a couple times if plans allowed, but only one of us was at a Disney hotel while everyone else stayed offsite or drove up for the day. It has been a year since staying at a Disney hotel for a couple others, and longer or never for the rest.

I think the poster was asking about the many people you talked to who told you they got late checkouts at Disney. That doesn't sound like the group you just traveled with.

This is the information I have seen. That is if it allowed at all.

Housekeeping has never disturbed us on checkout day before 11am and we always check out right before 11am. We always keep our "Do not Disturb" sign out.

You're lucky. Last trip they started knocking at 8am and then tried to come in even with the "do not disturb" sign on the door. They then proceeded to knock every 30 minutes to see when we were leaving. It was so obnoxious I complained to the manager on duty at the front desk.

I would definitely complain about that too.

If you have a list of possible resorts you want to stay at just give the resorts a call and ask about their policy on late check-out..That way you can at least know the policy before hand. Take out some guess work, and hear from the resorts themselves..because unfortunately you will run into a bunch of different scenarios on the boards that in turn get different results. I currently call CSR with my questions probably once every two weeks and they are always happy to answer.

If we are talking about the people I have talked to, they have all traveled in the last month to the last year. It is common for people to check-in on Friday and check-out on Sunday where I live, since we are only a couple hours South.

That might be my best bet. I thought Disboards would be a helpful place since everyone here seems to have the lowdown on quite a bit and experience is helpful, but I have one group adamant about one thing being the norm and another that is persistent about the complete opposite. Thankfully, there were a couple answers that were really helpful and I learned some new things, so I will be looking into their advice as well.

All you can do is keep researching and planning. No matter how it turns out you are still planning a Disney vacation and that's the best part!!!!:cheer2:

We have been granted late check out several times anywhere from 15min to an hour with no charge or even hint of a charge.

We just about always do breakfast on check out mornings and have come back several times to a cleaned room prior to checkout time even with a dnd sign on the door. I simply used the room and contacted the front desk to tell them that the room is no longer clean for the next guest.

I would definitely be complaining if housekeeping knocked on the door before check out time especially at 8am!

No one on this board can tell you one way or the other if you're going to be granted late check out. Maybe you will, maybe you won't. I also don't think anyone can accurately state what is the norm regarding late check out. It's a crapshoot depending on turnover at the resort, and probably to some extent the CM that answers the phone. Regarding housekeeping disturbing you prior to 11am - we've experienced both. We were hassled by housekeeping at the GF on our last two trips but no one came by on our two prior trips at WL and Polynesian.

Maybe I'm wrong, but it sounds like you want a definitive answer. I just don't think one exists.

That I would not bother doing. When you call a number for a resort you are getting a call center. Phone employees are famous for providing incorrect information.

If I forget a do not disturb sign, I might get a polite knock/inquiry but certainly never with a do not disturb on the door. I've also never had an issue even if it was a few minutes after 11 when I checked out. I highly doubt they'd charge you anything unless it was at least a full hour late/ after 12pm

Funnily enough it was at the GF we also had the biggest issue with mouse keeping knocking on the door at 8am.
