We will be staying at SSR in September. On our departure day our flight home is at about 8pm. We will be flying with Virgin Atlantic so we can check our bags in at the Cirque check in at DTD during the morning (very convenient!!)

Does anyone know if we will be able to pay to keep our room until late afternoon on that day of departure? If not, will be able to stay at the resort until it is time to go to the arport? I hate that last day 'lost' feeling!

Thanks!

No. If there are point stays available, they might let you stay another day on points, but we have always been told this is not possible. Once we went to our assigned room, and it was occupied by a suitcase and one of the new towels had been used and hung over the credenza thing in the entry (OKW). We went back to HH, and they said the person was supposed to have been out at 11. They gave us a new room, and were on the way to check and see if they should take his things out.

Whenever we have a later flight, we leave our bags will bell services until it's time for the limo or bus to pick us up. If we've rented a car, we just pack up the car.

Then we head for the parks!

This last trip it was cold back home but hot in FL. We packed a pair of pants on the very top in the suitcase and then changed in a bathroom before we headed to the airport. worked out well.

Yes, you are absolutely entitled to remain at the resort for the remainder of the day after you surrender your room. You can continue to enjoy all amenities of the resort other then your room. This includes pool hopping etc. As far as keeping your room, I don't know. I'd call MS and check with them about possibly paying a "day rate" for the room (check with them about this even being an option), or possibly use an extra days points (like Diane said) as long as it is not a Fri or Sat, in which case cash might be less expensive. Unfortunately, MS has already closed, or I'd call and ask myself (it's just after 5 pm here in FL).

Officially, by rule, DVC does not allow late checkout. Occasionally they will allow this if things aren't that busy. So you should ask. They will not allow a partail days stay (day use) unless you pay for a full day with cash or points. As noted, you can certainly use the resort amenities for the entire day.

I've heard of them bending the rules for an exceptional reason (such as a sick child) but not otherwise. However, if you store your luggage either according to your plan or with the hotel bell services, you should have no problem hanging around or even--if you have a park pass--going on a few rides. Nobody will boot you off the property. We do this all the time, getting in a final day and then flying home in the evening.

Back in December we had an awful trip due to both ds's being sick the entire time! ( a couple days each) Anyway, on the day of check-out we asked if our check out time could be extended due to the vomiting and other factors and originally told that the villa-side check out was very strict ! I eventually got to housekeeping and the housekeeping manager allowed us to stay in the villa till 1:30 pm , when our shutttle to airport was to arrive at 2. I was extreamly grateful my ds's could stay in bed for the extended time and left a generous tip for housekeeping needless to say! Anyway I'm sure this might have been considered out of the ordinary and was difficult to obtain. I wouldn't have even considered this but .....

On our recent stay, we also had a late flight out of Orlando. We stored our luggage with BW Bell Services and made sure to put Wisconsin clothing on top in our suitcases. After touring a park and eating lunch, we returned to BW. We changed clothes in the BW bathroom before being picked up by our Town Car Service.

It worked out OK, but I wish the resorts provided a changing room or locker room or something instead of the public restroom for us to change in. It was awkward because the restroom only had 3 stalls and people kept coming in, lining up to use them, while we were trying to change.

We have Bell Services take our baggage to storage and then go enjoy ourselves until it is time to leave. The only thing you must do is vacate the room. You can still charge to your room, use the resort facilities, etc. Bell Services will gladly take you to your luggage if you need access for any reason.

We always hang out at BW on our last day. We've gone into the health club to change (much more room than a restroom) and even showered in the locker room one day after swimming.

They did their best to get me out of the room before 11:00 am starting with pounding on the door at 8 am - would NOT stop until I got up and answered the door. It was the morning after MH so I was still asleep. I told them I was not leaving until 11 am.
They came back THREE more times - including once when I was in the shower - thank goodness I kept the security lock on because they tried to come in without knocking. This was the Friday before Memorial Day weekend so I know they were very busy.
