Have any of you been able to get a late check-out on your departure day, particularly at AKV?

If so, when did you request it....prior to arrival, when checking in, departure morning?

We have a Boma ADR on our departure morning but I know the kids will want to swim too. If we had even an extra hour in the room, it would be really helpful for fitting it in. Worst case scenario, we can just have the kids change in the restroom and haul the wet stuff in our carry-ons.

We got late check out once but I can't remember where - it was either BC or GF.

I think you just need to call the night before you check out.

We got late check out (1pm) at the YC last time, also because we had a breakfast adr at Cape May and then wanted to swim an hour before changing and heading to the airport. I asked at the desk at the beginning of our trip. We weren't counting on it but it was nice that it worked out.

We got late check out once when my husband was sick and we had a later plane. We have also just stayed in the room late, maybe 30 min or so, and no one ever bothered us. But don't count on it. Ask night before.

As PP noted, you can't get late check-out in the villas. I would plan on changing in the restroom or in the fitness center (where, I think, they have showers). We did this once when we stayed at BWV. We swam after checkout and simply used the restrooms in the fitness center to shower and change.

DVC villas do not offer any late check outs because it takes longer to clean the villas and the occupancy is higher, meaning they need to turn those rooms over to new guests quickly.

Need to contact the maid service the night before as they are who grants the late checkout not the front desk. We've been able to do it two out of three requests on previous trips. It all depends on the schedule to have the room ready for next guest.

You may already be aware - but we were surprised.... once you hit that checkout time, your magic bands will no longer open the door to the room. We were running a few minutes behind, and fortunately DH was in the room, otherwise we would have been locked out with our stuff inside!

But not with DVC resorts.

I got late check-out at AKL Jambo House (not DVC) in April.

IME w/DVC you may get knocks on the door well before check out by housekeeping to see if you're gone yet! They have a lot of big villas to clean - that's also why check in for DVC is later than it is for regular rooms.

W/ all of the fences/gates around the pools will the MBs still work after check out on the pool gates?

Ours did at Poly last summer.

We got late check out once at POFQ. Well, I took the first room available the previous day and got in at 9:30 in the morning and stayed until 1 p.m. the next day. But I wondered what if a person wasn't to vacate the room till like 1:30 or 2? Would Disney know?

When housekeeping goes to clean the room and you are still in it, yeah, they will know. Plus if you leave the room you may not get back in, as they will make it so your Magic Band or room key no longer works.

That's unusual. I mean I know Housekeeping is officially made aware via a report or telephone call add on but I never worked at a hotel where they made the decision. Normally it's the province of the Front Office who knows, as opposed to Housekeeping, what the house count/occupancy rate is currently and for future.
Interesting change of the norm.

That is kinda what I figured would happen, once you leave it the Magic Band would no longer work, and housekeeping would probably be waiting out the room to get cleaned. Just made me wonder.

I've never heard this either. I've always contacted the front desk, and that's all I've ever read about others doing as well.
