Late check out?

Is there such a thing at the DVC resorts? Our flight leaves late and we have an infant who may need a nap. Anyone ever requested a late check out? Thanks for your help!

DVC resorts do not normally allow a late check-out. There isn't really enough time to service all the rooms and have them ready for the next arriving guest now with the 11am check-out.

There are a lot of quiet places where you can sit with your child and let them rest in a stroller or on your lap. At BCV, there are two rooms on the main floor, plus the Conservatory over at the BC where you can sit. At VWL, you can sit in the Iron Spike Room. At the BWV, you can sit out by the quiet pool or Community Hall. At OKW, there are several locations by the pool or Papa's Den. At SSR, there are a few areas over by the Carriage House.

I think they are flexible if there's an unforseen problem. This past week we had the bright idea of washing a load of laundy the morning of check-out at the VWL. Needless to say, at 11:15am the clothes had been in the dryer for 45 minutes and were still very wet. We called down to the lobby and advised them that we would need some more time and they were excellent about it. I also let mousekeeping on our floor know we were running behind and they too were very sweet and understanding. We ended up leaving the room around 12:35pm. (the clothes never did finish drying we ended up going to the resort laundry) Lessons learned: 1) wash the night before.....2) Take em home dirty!

There used to be late check outs in the beginning, but no more. I do think there is some flexability though as long as you don't over do it. It would be easier to do when attendance isn't at its peak. It's not like they run into your room at 11:00.....once we waited for a belhop for 2 hours (people called out and they were short of staff) and no one even came to the door. In case you are wondering why we didn't just take our luggage ourselves.......well I am the culprit, we were on the third floor and the suitcases were WAY overstuffed....as usual!!!! I got an earfull that time!!!!!! HaHa

Your's was the exception to the rule. On New Year's Day we were scheduled to check into our DVC villa at OKW. At 4PM it still wasn't ready. At 5, it still wasn't ready. About 5:15 they told us it should be ready. We drove over to the villa and housekeeping was madly cleaning our room. It seems the people who had occupied the room did not leave until about 4:30. They were charged a cost of the next night at rack rate, plus I think they had some other penalty. Housekeeping was supposed to be finished for the day around 5, but they had to work overtime to clean up the mess these slobs left behind. Fortunately, the housekeeping staff was a great bunch and got the mess cleaned up for us to move into the villa by 5:30.

Villas take longer to clean. That's why they don't usually allow late check outs. Try locating some of these quiet spots and have your child take a nap there.

tracyl921,
You can check you bags with bell services & go out and have fun. Bring a stroller from home so the little one can nap wherever you happen to be.

We had a similar story to Deb and Bill's. Our very first DVC trip, we kept calling the number to see if our villa was ready. It finally was at about 4 PM, so we left the park to go get settled in and grocery shop. When we opened the door of the villa, it was quite obvious that someone was still in it! There were suitcases packed and on the bed. One was still open, and a used towel was sitting on the little shelf near the front door. We trudged on back to the front desk and were told that the person in the room had guaranteed them that they would be taking their luggage out by 1 PM. By the time we arrived it was already 5 PM. They sent us to a different room, and as we were leaving they were talking about charging the previous occupant rack rate for the extra time. I'm quite sure he had already checked out too, so that meant doing a new bill etc. Sure hope they had his credit card number yet!

We often have a flight that leaves late in the day. We just pack our things up, either put them in the rental car if we have one, or store them with bell services. Then we take off for the parks and come back to OKW to pick up our luggage and do a quick change of clothes in the pool changing area. It would never occur to me to stay in the villa beyond check out time unless I was planning on paying for it either with cash or points.

Personally I would hope that the would never allow anyone a later checkout than the 11:00 am. It's bad enough now sometimes having to wait till 5pm or later to get into your room.
If you know you have a late flight ( and I assume you would before you left for vacation ) Then simply book an additional nights stay, and you can stay as late as you like.
If they make exceptions for 1 they will have to do it for all.

Dianeschlicht;
If that had happened to me I think I would have taken the suitcases and put them in the hall.
I like your idea of charging them for the extra day if not out by 11:00 am. And it should be stated on the paper work you sign at checkin.
