As a new member, i have a question. I have stayed as a guest at both the OKW and Boardwalk villas and finally took the plunge while onbard the disney cruise.

We often arrange to take the last flight home, sometimes on flights as late as 8 or 9 pm. This gives us an extra day at the park after checking out.
-
Since checkout is at 11, and they dont offer late checkout, is there any other option or tips to provide someplace to change/shower etc after a long day at the park. I know this might sound like a scam, or trying to get a free days room, but it really isnt.
-
Its just that the last trip, the kids and i swam at the pool after we had checked out and before we had to leave for the airport. We stayed at the villa area all day, having lunch etc, and visiting epcot.
-
At the end of the day, it would have been nice to have a place to take a quick shower, or change from wet bathing suits for the flight home. As it was, we changed in the bathroom, but this is probably "frowned on". We had carried our evening outfit with us after checking our luggage with magical express.

Can anyone advise if the villas have a cabana/changing area/shower for people staying at the parks/pools after checking out? I cant be the only one with this issue can i?

There are a couple of options.

1) Use the points and book an extra day in the room and leave early.

2) I think all DVCs (or the attached WDW resort) has showers you can use to freshen up near their exercise room/gym. At OKW they are located in the restrooms by the main pool area and Community Hall.

WOW -- i have one post, you have over 14,000!!!!! That is certainly two extremes.
-
Of course there is always the option of renting another day... not to sound cheap, but i hate to "waste" points on a room that will be empty all day and i only need for a quick change or shower.
-
I hate the idea of "sneaking" into a restroom near the gym -- are there any "authorized" places to change/freshen up, etc? I figured the pool might have a cabana, but all they had were outside showers designed to rinse off before entering the hot tubs, not exactly the place to get out the pert plus.

You wouldn't be sneaking into the showers. At least the ones at OKW are not actually "attached" to the gym, anyone can use them. I'm pretty sure anyone can use them at the other resorts as well.

And I didn't see it was your first post.

WELCOME to the DIS Boards!! :cheer2:

At least the ones at OKW are actually changing rooms for the pool, so no sneaking involved. I have to believe most main pools would have something similar, although I don't recall an area like that at AKV.

Here's another shocker for you....I have over 30,000 posts! Welcome to the DIS/DVC forums!

I think most people work out first thing in the morning so the changing rooms are pretty empty in the late afternoon. I used the one at VWL last year and there were only three of us in there and all of us were showering and changing before heading to the airport. Use of the fitness center is free and that includes use of the changing room (and there is no requirement to use the treadmill in order to use the shower!) At many resorts the fitness center's changing room is close to the pool so it's very convenient. In some cases you have to pass through part of the fitness center to get there so I wouldn't walk through there dripping wet from the pool.

We used the fitness room's lockers and showers at VWL after we checked out of DVC accomodations, and they did hold our room keys. This was 4 years ago. When I recently used BCV's showers/lockers I was not required to give them the room key, so I don't know if there has been a change of policy.

Bobbi:goodvibes

PS. I have an "in-between" number of posts, but also want to say "Welcome!"

The other part of this question which will probably occur to you later is what to do with your bags. After you check out, you can leave your bags with bell services.

This isn't something that's just done for DVC guests. Before we purchased our DVC contract, we stayed at Wilderness Lodge and were encouraged by the CMs there to do the same - shower and freshen up at the fitness center. Disney advertises their pacakages to include both the arrival and departure days as days you can enjoy the parks. It is nice to have a shower and fresh clothes before heading to the airport.

And you're often told your "Key to the World" is good until midnight of your check-out day. We too take evening flights home to New England and have changed into fresh clothes at SSR, OKW, the Poly, VWL, and Beach Club. I think no one will even notice! Hope to be adding AKV to that list in July!
