Late August - risk the Skyliner?

I'm going to be at WDW August 20-26 and debating my resort.

I'd love to do Pop, BUT I'm not sure about the Skyliner with storms. I've been there when they had to mobilize the busses and I remember it took FOREVER. Am I likely better off staying at a non-Skyliner resort? I'm thinking August would be bad for afternoon/evening thunderstorms...yes?

Stayed two seperate times at Skyliner hotels last august and no issues w/skyliner. August showers are usually in afternoon and don’t last long. Skyliner keeps running unless there’s lightning.

I've never run into a weather closure, but my trips have been May, late Sept/early Oct. We also don't go back to the resort during the day, which would be prime thunderstorm times.

Test Track got shut down along with the Skyliner a few weeks ago due to lighting in the area. Rain is probably not a problem.

We go in Aug./Sept. every year and we won't stay at a skyliner resort during this time of year. We did in early March and it was great, but it's not worth the hassle to us during the rainy months.

I haven't planned around the Skyliner, but it seems like from what I've read, the problem isn't just that it might stop running in bad weather. The problem is how easily you can find out if it has stopped running, and how easily you can find out where to go to pick up alternate transportation. I vaguely recall that at one point you had to walk over to BoardWalk to pick up buses when the Skyliner stopped running, and when people got there nobody knew exactly where they were supposed to go. It seems like Disney should have rules in place (who makes the decision, how the decision is publicized, how people are told where to go for alternate transportation) but I'm not sure they do.

You'll get better details from people who have been there when it stopped running.

Yep.

We stood for 10 minutes at the Swan/Dolphin dock only to conclude that the boats had stopped running (lightning in the area?).

The sentiment among those waiting was "how are we supposed to know"?

Wish they would incorporate Skyliner schedules, closures, etc into the Disney app
Agree. One would think this would be a basic part of the app.

Even better - GPS on where the bus is at any moment. I use four modes of transit apps at home and all of them have GPS locator on their vehicles.

I had reservations for this June at Riveria and was excited until I read it's the worst month for rain and thunderstorms, so we switched to the beach club so we could walk to two parks. I'm a little sad and hope I made the right choice.

We have done august at POP once and are
Doing it again! We had 1 issue with the skyliner and used Uber from YC. The morning is so with it with the skyliner-WaPO ally late aug <3

We had no issues last July on our brief 2-night stay at the Riviera, but perhaps were lucky. We’ll be staying there again in August, but will have a car on this trip.
