Three co-workers died. One was 46, dropped dead while camping, waiting for the autopsy result. The next was a week later - he was 64, had a stroke while undergoing surgery to put in a stint. The last one is the worst (at least for me) - a good friend, 41 yrs old, 18 year old son 2 weeks away from being deployed to Irag - was killed by semi-truck driver who ran a red light.

We got an e-mail Friday, just several hours after she was killed, and the whole campus was in shock. She was one of those people that everyone liked, smart, down-to-earth, and she died in minutes because someone made a mistake. We were next door to each other for two years, before she was promoted to Associate Vice Chancellor and she stopped by my office every morning, plus we shared chocolate when ever we were stressed.

I don't even want to go to work tomorrow and I know the feeling is shared by almost everyone on our campus.

Sometimes I feel like I'm always sharing bad news on this site but it seems to help to write this down. It's not been the greatest of years personally, and I've not posted much lately. I haven't even been lurking much - just haven't had time as there have been some changes in my job responsibilties - you know - more work, same pay.

Anyway, here I am again, letting off a bit of steam, though it doesn't make this situation any better.

Oh, Cathy, I'm so sorry. What a difficult time. We're always here when you need us, even if it's just to vent.

Cathy- I am so sorry. I can't even begin to understand what you are feeling but I am sorry you are going through it. My first semester in college we had 4 deaths- 2 students and 2 teachers and that was pretty bad itself and they were spread over a semester.

We are here for the good times and the bad- let us know if we can do anything to help.

Cathy, who can blame you for not wanting to go to work, or to do much of anything. I am so sorry you are going thru such losses. My thoughts are with you during this difficult time.

Hugs to you and your school community. I know that today was very sad. I dealt with losing a student last year 4 days before Christmas. It was so sad for our students and for ourselves. Just thinking of those sad days make me cry even today.
The one thing that I can say is use the people around you that are there to help, tell everyone who means anything to you that you love them and doing something everyday to keep their memories alive.
We have a stained glass window in the front of the building and I make a point of walking under it every day. When I do I think of Karin's smiling face.

Hugs and I'm here if you need me.

please feel free to come here whenever you feel the need. good and bad that is what we are here for.

Thanks everyone!

The funeral was today and it was quite a tribute to a wonderful woman. There were several people who spoke from the university and some family members. Lots of tears, hugs, and so on. Then I came back to work and had to teach a class so right now I'm exhausted.

Again, thanks for the sympathy and words of encouragement. I appreciate you all!

Our campus is small and many of us feel like family. We know about each other's families and share our ups and downs with each other. So the whole campus is mourning the loss of all three and we all support each other.

again, thanks dis family!

Oh my goodness, that's just awful.

In times like this no one can ever say the right thing, so how about just an e-hug
