Well the tortilla sort of puts that out. 1 grain serving is either 2 4" corn tortillas or 1 6" corn or whole wheat tortilla and you can really make a burrito out of that much tortilla. You're not really allowed ham on the diet, but that's one of the places I fudge it. I figure 3 oz of whatever meat is OK and if it is fatty then I also use up one of my fat servings in the meat. Like today I had a piece of skirt steak for breakfast and some grapes, (meat, fat, fruit, saving my grains for dinner and birthday cake at rehearsal). The other thing is that beans can either be a grain or a protein and I get 1/2 a cup wherever I put them. I could have a 6 inch tortilla with 1/4 cup of beans and 1 1/2 oz of turkey. 1 oz of cheese for the fat and some spices (no calories)...onions are free vegetables as are lettuce, tomatoes, etc. However, opening a can of beans for one burrito is not so good...hence the reason for a lot of planning.

My new favorite thing is a 3oz turkey patty melt, the onions count as a veggie. I can have one slice of rye bread that I cut in half and the slice of swiss cheese counts as the fat so that makes a perfect lunch. If I have a glass of V8 with it and maybe a pickle slice (another stretch of the vegetable). Other non grain lunches are 4 Friday's Chicken Wings (protein) with celery (vegetable) and blue cheese dressing (fat), or 1/2 can of chili (beans and meat = protein + some vegetable in the tomatoes) with cheese (fat) and onions (vegetable). I also made an awesome turkey salisbury steak the other day which had no grains but had mushrooms & onions as veggie.

If I'm following the diet properly and having protein and veggies (3) for dinner and one fat, at breakfast I have 3/4 cup multi grain cheerios with 3 oz of milk, a piece of turkey sausage, 14 grapes and 5 oz of chocolate milk. Yes chocolate milk is an allowed part of the diet! That's probably how I keep on it. Sometimes, I have my entire protein as the chocolate milk! But I have to know in the morning if I will have any grains at dinner so I do not have them at breakfast or lunch. That's the way it's been going and I have not been losing much weight. I think I need to start planning dinners that have no carbs and eat them for breakfast and lunch to get back to weight loss.

Anyways, it's really late here and I should decide to get to bed. As I'm watching ads on TV for Pillsbury Toaster Strudel (drool) but I can't eat that crap!

I should be going to bed!

I don't think I could do the diet you're on. I really don't :( I can understand controlling portion size and such (even though we had roast beef and potatoes last night, I had two thin slices of beef, a small amount of potatoes, and a small amount of gravy), but I don't think I could do what that diet entails. Not that I don't applaud you for making it work for yourself :) :cheer2:

I'm here....

Hi! How's things?

No, not a drive-by this time. Here for a while.

How have you been? I haven't been able to catch you on the boards for the last couple of weeks...but I've been reading about your reno's and diet.

I'm okay. Just a little tired. DH is in San Francisco so its been me and the boy all week; plus the cats. I'm still sick from last week; so its been adding to the feeling of tiredness.

The boy and I have decided that we are taking a day off tomorrow. No school and its a non working day for me. So, we're probably going to spend the day in our PJs, watching TV. Sounds great to me!

When does your DH come home? I hope you finish getting better soon  You've been sick a while :( I hope you don't stay sick much longer :grouphug:

That sounds like fun :) I have to work tomorrow and Thursday, but I'm off this weekend, so I think my mom and I are going to work on some crafty type stuff. A friend of mine emailed me this HUGE craft ebook and I printed it out without looking at the page count... It was about 1000 pages. Thank god I printed it at work!

He's coming home on Sunday, which is Father's Day here. So, we're hoping that he'll be home for brunch.

Spring is here - although you wouldn't know it from today's weather. Rainy, drizzly, grey, wet, blustery. A blast from winter and more to come. I'm pretty pleased that its raining as we've had a long drought. But still, I'll be pleased to see the sunshine and warmer weather - only to get rid of this cough.

Yeah, Fran looked at the piece of paper and said, "no way" but when my Dr handed it to me back in May, in the middle of DCA Food and Wine Festival! i looked at it and decided I could make it work. Fran is of no help, because she constantly wants to go to Fast Food places, but I've figured that I can count a 4 pc chicken McNuggets as a protein, not the best but better than a burger and I get a side salad with the low calorie dressing. We have a place called El Pollo Loco that has grilled chicken and there I get a Grilled chicken thigh and a side salad. These are my "not eating at home" alternatives. Otherwise at home i try to stick with the "program", it's hard and I drink a lot of V8, but I remember that in 2008 I was 20 lbs lighter than I am now and I've already lost 15+ lbs so it would be nice to get back to where I was if not get beyond that.

I hope he makes it home by lunch :) That would be nice, to spend the day with him.

I can't wait for the temperatures to drop :guilty: I'm getting really tired of the heat. I've had bad headaches for the last couple of days because of the heat.

I haven't stepped on the scales in a month! I'm hoping to weigh in on monday night and see how I've done. My clothes tell me I've lost a little bit.

Good for you for sticking to the program! I hope you get to your target; whatever it is.

I like eating out, but I really try not to. It's just difficult with my work schedule to find time to cook. On days that I work, I spend 12 hours at work, 2 hours commuting (an hour there, an hour back), and roughly 8 hours sleeping. That leaves 2 hours for showering, dressing, and making something to eat. It's starting to drive me a little crazy, but I'm not going to switch jobs. I like my job :lmao:

Interesting that your Father's day is offset from ours. This past year the news stations were really into reporting the history of our father's day which was evidently started in the 20's or so here in the states.

I hope you have a fabulous father's day and that you survive well until he gets home!

Yes, I did note that....except I still haven't got an air ticket that says Orlando :rotfl2:

:lmao: Neither do I ;) I'm planning on buying mine at the end of the month. Right now, my fare stands at just over $500 (about $502, I think), and I'm sure there'll be a Ding fare before then. I hope you can poke your DH into booking the airfare when he gets home!

I'm lucky that our work is totally subjective. We can do it if we want, and only ouselves are hurt if we don't. As a result we spend most of our time at home online and don't do anything on the rental properties. The one on the market is basically ready to go unless we decide to replace the stove and counter tops which will cost us like $4-5K total. But at that point we'd raise the rent to $2100 from $1950. The problem is that I have not shown the place once from a phone call. No one wants to pay that much so we need to wait for someone who can afford it and wants a beautiful place. That will be hard.

Hey if you know anyone in the LA area who wants a really nice place let them know!

I don't think I know anyone in the LA area who's looking for an apartment, actually :( Even if I were there, that would be waaaaaaaay out of my price range. I hope you guys are able to rent it soon

It sounds like you and Fran can afford to live really well with income coming in from the rentals. I guess you've said that it gets hard because Fran seems to buy things off ebay a lot. That must be very frustrating to know that if you stuck to your budget, you'd be very comfortable.
