Ok guys and gals. I got my wife to agree on a resale.
I CANT WAIT!!
She is not the Disney person I am. But she got SOOO excited researching it. (I WILL CONVERT HER) anyway, question time.
We are going to go with SSR. 150pt contract.
We love the look of it and it reminds us of staying there in 97' when it was the disney institute. SO my question is
If we Book at 11 months for Oct for 7-9 days (oh we would be going every other year) is it easy to get BCV or BWV or the Wilderness one at 7 months. While being VERY flexible, meaning we would take all 7-9 days or we could switch from one resort to the other, either beginning of the trip or the end. and can you be wait listed for a couple of resorts and couple of different rooms, studio to 1 bedroom.
SO MANY QUESTIONS
Sorry for going on and on with this email.

But once you make your offer on the contract, why not join the others in your situation on the "Mousellaneous" board's "Waiting for ROFR support group" thread. Bunch of pretty good folks over there, and it helps to "talk" to others in the same boat.

BWV, BCV and VWL are three of the smaller resorts and all reports indicate they are hard to get at 7 mos. If you are still in the purchase process why not look at contracts for either of the three, it is always better to buy where you want to stay as it gives you an 11 mos window advantage, with the number of villas at SSR it is always easier to get ressies at 7 mos.

I might have done that myself had it not been for the higher cost for contracts that expire about 12 years earlier than SSR's. (I'll be gone, either way, but I wanted the benefit for my grandkid's kids.)

Do the SSR resales have the later experation date? If so I was not aware of that. I'm betting DVC offers contract extensions to other DVC resorts like they offered at OKW, especialy those three since they seem somewhat more popular.

All SSR contracts will have the same expiration date, but it IS 12 years longer than BWV, BCV, or VWL.

SSR and AKV are (so far) the latest additions to DVC. All SSR contracts expire in 2054 (I think); and AKV in 2057 (?). These are close. Somebody correct me if I have the years wrong.

All the other resorts expire in 2042 - except for contracts at OKW, where some owners have taken DVC up on an offer for contract extension. Some owners have opted to pass these up.

I am one of the passers on the extension, we would rather use the extension money to either buy more points or do an add-on at a different resort.

i'd be willing to take a friendly bet on that...because those three are more popular.

i expect disney will either find it more profitable to offer them as suites to the connected hotels or else tear the whole thing down if they think fresher deluxe hotels will bring better rates in the 2060s than 50+ year old properties...

those resorts have much better location than OKW and are smaller...i suspect disney is less concerned with keeping them booked at capacity than they are a larger stand-alone resort like OKW.

one of the three might survive as a DVC resort, but i wouldn't consider it a given...

i completely agree with the advice given to cybertea, though. if you like SSR and want to try other resorts if there is availability (and oct is a reasonable period to look for availability at 7 months...not "easy" but definitely "possible"), then go ahead with plans to buy. but if you'd be disappointed to get "stuck" at SSR...i'd recommend thinking twice.

I'm sure you've noodled the numbers, but if you're going to get a 150 point contract off of resale for SSR, how does that compare to the latest offers directly from Disney for only 10 points more ? (and you don't have to wait for ROFR and can make your reservations days after you close if not sooner)

Lunch at Olivias or drinks at Gurgling Suitcase? At the pace DVC makes policy we could get really thirsty.:rotfl2:

I now agree with your line of thinking, I keep forgetting that non DVC is attatched to these resorts.:worship:

My wife and I are the every other year people. We wouldn't go until Oct 2009 or march 2010. So we can wait.

Thanks for all the feedback, Funny thing, my wife called and is now thinking of the BCV!

I'm just glad it WILL happen soon.
It took LOTS O Hours to get her to say yes. :cool1:

It will take a lot longer if she insists on BCV, since that is a very small resort, and popular for resales, so more difficult to get and at more expense than BWV.
