We were very upset about the whole thing when we first found out that we were going to have to go through this. But then we sat down and talked about it and really thought about it and although it's very stressful they're only looking out for A.J.'s best interest. And there are lots of kids out there that are much more "borderline" than A.J. as far as being able to take care of their own affairs and unfortunately there are some parents that want to keep their children under their control simply for any benefits the child may be entitled to. I do understand it all - but it's still very stressful!

Yesterday when the deputy (who is a good friend of ours) came out to serve the papers he shared what had happened when he got the papers from the deputy that handles all the court papers first. (It's his job to read over the papers and decide which deputy should serve them.)

First of all, let me add that A.J. is actually a "jr" and his middle name does not start with a "j" as most people think it would. So, when this deputy first saw the papers and saw the name, he thought they referred to DH! And since I am the "petitioner" he thought that I was petitioning to have DH ruled incompetent! Can you imagine the buzz around the department yesterday until this one deputy (our friend that served us) finally realized it was A.J. and not DH!!!

do you need a lawyer or is this something you can do on your own?

We can do it on our own. DH knows one of the judges really well and he's said we can do it all on our own and if we need any advise I'm sure DH can ask him.

I don't think I've been there since we moved. I just go to my subscribed threads that are on the CB. I really like it here, no one seems to complain about us.

I like it here, too. Very friendly, very comfortable! I rarely venture off here (except to the Firefighter's Wives Thread).
