we were almost home (last road before turning up our drive) after having been to church and we saw a snake in the road. DH stops, gets out, says it is a copperhead so he runs over it. Get home, my sister is calling me when we get out of the van. She was at the neighbors house (across from where the snake was)......she said it was already dead.....:rotfl: cousin had shot it. But also told me that neighbor 3 houses down had been down the road right after they killed that one and got to his driveway and found two more copperheads which he killed.

So 3 copperheads in less than 1/2 a mile..........:scared1:

You have posted more venemous snake stories than I can count! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: remind us again where you live so we know not to go within a 100 miles of the place?????

I saw a diamondback rattler recently and instead of running it over or shooting it I pulled over and watched it cross the road. It was really cool.

:lmao: We do see lots of snakes. That is the first time we've seen that many in the same time frame (adult snakes that is) in such a short distance. DH did find a nest of babies one year when mowing and cleaning up around some trees. They were in a little indentation at the base of the tree.....there were 4 or 5 of them.....I came home and he had them all stretch out in the road.

We are in Tennessee BTW.

DH tried to get DS to go out to his truck to get something for him after we got home and DS was like no way, no how!!!!!!

It was a bad day for snakes in Cristy's neighborhood.

:rotfl: The neighbor who killed the first one has two little boys (under 4) that play outside in their yard a lot.....have lots of toys, etc in the yard. The snake was headed into the yard......I'd be out there checking under everything and in everything to see if there were any more hiding out if it were me.

At least a rattler will generally give a warning.....copperheads.....not so nice.

Copperheads also tend to run with rattlesnakes. This should be a lot of fun.:rotfl:

DH saw a 6 ft timber rattler earlier this year.....it got away. He killed a 4 ft timber rattler a few days after that.

Don't know why there were so many on the move last night....only thing we could think of was all the rain we've had.

:scared1:My opinion on snakes - the only "good" snake:scared1: is a bad snake...

We created a snake sanctuary in our front yard - made level planters with stones... last summer, I kept seeing one, and made our friend go under our porch and kill it... it had burrowed under our bottom step ... at first, our friend was so apologetic to it, saying "sorry I have to do this, but she said you have to go"... then after she hissed at him I heard him start cussing, then I (I was standing on the bumper of my car, in the garage, listening) saw this pile of whatever come flying across the planter are, into the driveway... that dang snake was incubating babies! I am SO glad he got rid of it before I had a snake overrun!

Yeek... talking about this makes my hold my feet up, and hold my breath!

I am tired of these <bleep> snakes on this <bleep> plane.

When we first moved to our farm, I killed anything that slithered. NOw I have learned to discern between the black snakes (non-poisonous) and the copperheads (deadly). I usually scoop up the black snacks with a shovel or pitchfork and relocate them to the field across the street or to the woods out in the back of the property.

But if it was a rattler or a copperhead, just strolling by? You better believe it'd be a dead snake.

I don't think some here would think so kindly of the snakes if they took over your house! We had a large rat snake lay eggs in our walls. 10 baby snakes hatched and started appearing randomly all over the house. The "babies" were like a foot long, rat snakes are quite large. We just sold the house and they found a 4 foot long snake skin in our ATTIC during the inspection!!

Maybe the baby snakes were falling from the AC vents in the ceilings?? It was like living through a horror movie because I am terrified of snakes.:scared1:

I'm not sure why you think it is cool to run over snakes in the road.:confused3 It wasn't on your property, and it wasn't harming you. I think it is kind of sick to mow any kind of animal over on purpose.

How upsetting that all these snakes (who were posing no threat) were killed :sad2:.

The problem is they could have very easily posed a threat to those kids. Around here, you don't mess around with venomous snakes in your yard. If you have kids, you kill the snake. Period. No one likes to kill an animal, especially me, but if it meant my kids' safety, I would not hesitate.

ITA. I would rather cut off my right arm than hard a defenceless animal, but a venomous snake is not a defencless animal IMO. Its scary!!!! I'm glad to live somewhere we only have to worry about spiders, and 9 out of 10 times, they are pretty harmless.

PS - don't tell me that my spiders aren't harmless - I'd rather live in ignorance!!!! ;)
