For several hours we had fantastic lightening. At one point, the weather people were reporting over 500 strikes an hour!
That's a flash of lightning about once every 5-7 seconds. The storms were off to our south and east but we could hear the thunder. It ranged from fairly loud to a beastly sounding growl off in the distance.
Then this morning I got this.
So, you say, well that's Florida in the summer... what do you expect. Nope! That AREA they're talking about is all of southern New England except Cape Cod, Marthas Vineyard, Nantucket and Block Island.
Sounds like a good time to go hang out in the frozen food section of Stop & Shop.

Excessive heat watch in effect from Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday evening. Temperatures will soar well into the 90s Tuesday afternoon and will approach 100 degrees in some areas. The combination of heat and humidity will result in heat indices of up to 105 degrees Tuesday afternoon.
Wednesday will be the hottest day of the week, as high temperatures reach 100 degrees over most of the area. Heat indices are likely to reach around 110 degrees Wednesday afternoon.
In addition, overnight lows in the larger urban centers may not fall below 80 degrees Tuesday night and Wednesday night, presenting a continued danger for those without air conditioning or proper ventilation.
The upcoming hot weather will be an extreme event for the area, and has the potential to be a serious life threatening situation if precautions are not taken, especially for the elderly, children, and those who work outside.
People in the area should plan on altering their daily routine, in order to reduce the risk of heat exhaustion, or worse, being a casualty of life threatening heat stroke.
Avoid strenuous outdoor activity, especially from late morning through the evening, and spend time in air conditioning if possible.
Make sure rooms remain properly ventilated if air conditioning is not available, by opening windows and using fans. This is especially important for those in the urban centers.
No person or pet should ever stay in an enclosed vehicle even for the shortest amount of time. Temperatures quickly rise to life threatening levels, even if the windows are partially opened.
An excessive heat watch means that dangerously hot temperatures are expected with heat indices of 105 degrees or greater.

I think it depends on where you live in Texas. I've been in DFW area when the heat index has been 110 or so. It's been like that around here in Arkansas as well.

Holy cow! I didn't know it could get so hot up there. Think I'll stay in Atlanta, where it's a balmy 93.
