Just curious, how likely is it to be able to upgrade to a verandah cabin on the day of the cruise when checking in? Has anyone ever done this, if so was it extremely expensive to do so? We have an inside cabin booked, but I was just wondering if they offer any discounts to upgrade at the port if any are still available then.

Recently we upgraded at check in from a standard veranda on deck 10 (VGT) under the adult area (worried about noise) to a larger family veranda on deck 8. It cost $420 and the agent got the price from a printed chart. I don't think there was any discount.

It really all depends on the availability of the ship and when you arrive at the port if anything is available. The supervisors desk is on the left side, closest to the Mickey Funnel entrance to the ship. There may be a sign saying no upgrades. This thread HERE is a tracker of sorts. There isn't a real rhyme or reason for the cost of an upgrade. The house supervisor has a sheet they look at for each cruise. I would recommend that 4-7 days before your sailing look online and see what the rate would be of a verandah room in various categories. Then you will know what the cost difference is (Cost of the verandah room in advance - what you paid = your cost to upgrade in advance). This way when you get to the supervisors desk and they say how much it will be, you will know if it is a good deal or not (Cost of DCL Upgrade at port vs. your cost to upgrade in advance). Sometimes it works in your favor, other times not.

I failed to mention above that the upgrade that we did was at 2pm.

Yes, if there is availability it is a discounted rate at the port. There could be availability or not....and availability changes during the day.....let's say there are people who were able to upgrade from oceanview to verandah....that then freed up an oceanview cabin and now if someone in an inside cabin wanted to upgrade to an oceanview they could.

If no upgrades are available then there is usually a sign that says something like "Captain Mickey has no upgrades available today"
