We didn't have the greatest Lyft experience when we flew in last Friday. We went to level 3 of the parking garage as the signage and the app indicated and requested a Lyft.
The driver apparently clicked "I'm here" on their end when they were parked at the arrivals area and called to ask why we weren't there (it was supposed to be a "Christopher" and the picture was clearly of a man but the phone voice very much sounded like a woman). I told her that we were where the app told us to be and she said she would find us there. I watched her on the app circle around the airport three times apparently unsuccesfully trying to find the entrance to the parking garage before I cancelled and requested another Lyft. I got charged the $5 fee and even though I disputed it I still haven't gotten my money back.
The second driver was able to find us after one missed attempt at the parking garage but she was clearly unfamiliar with both SNA and the route to
Disneyland. She didn't use the carpool lane at all and we were sitting in traffic when we could have been cruising in the carpool lane.
All in all, I think we were delayed 20-30 minutes vs. just taking a taxi and the final cost savings was $5 versus a flat-rate taxi (and maybe no cost savings at all if I don't get my $5 cancellation fee back).
My brother arrived later in the day at rush hour and had a smooth experience, but he ended up paying more ($52 plus tip) than a flat-rate taxi would have been.
