I have a few last minute questions. We leave on Friday. :Pinkbounc I see there is a lot of rain in the forecast. :umbrella: DD (just turning 1) will be in a stroller most of the time. How do we handle having her in the stroller out in the rain. Can we cover it with something while she is in it? :confused3 (I am a first time mom :rotfl: ) At the airport we plan to just check our stroller at the gate. Should we use the storage bag it came with? I had read on here that someone had their stroller in the bag and they had to get it from the baggage carousel in stead of retrieving it at the gate. Do the airlines serve drinks at all anymore? :drinking1 Will I be able to get milk for DD?
Ok...I am done now! :faint:

*I thought of another question.* Do airplanes have baby changing tables in the lavatory? If not where do you change your kid? :scratchin

you can buy a cover for your stroller and use it while she is riding in it.
When travel buy air I do not use the bag it came in, so that when we arrive I can just open it up right away instead of getting it out of its bag. i think the fact that the other person had hers in a bag, is the reason she had to check it in with the rest of her luggage. And I think it just depends on where you are traveling from and what airline ur using if you want drinks. I'd bring my own milk on board, just to be sure.

Buy a stroller rain cover for your stroller; you can get them at baby-goods stores like BRUS or Baby Depot. (If you can't find one, use a clear shower curtain liner and some binder clips, but remember that this option does not provide for adequate ventilation for a child riding inside; you would have to be careful how you secured it so that there was good airflow underneath.)

You can gate-check your stroller in a cover, just be sure to mark the outside very distinctly. If you don't want to stencil it permanently, I recommend using colored vinyl tape to write out "BABY BUGGY- DELIVER TO GATE"). Also, be sure that the gate-check tag is visible and securely attached. If it's pouring at the airport, the stroller is likely to get wet without the cover when it is sent down the steps to be loaded into the hold.

Yes, airlines still serve drinks. However, unless you are on a cross-county flight on a widebody aircraft you should not expect to find milk on board a domestic flight, it usually isn't carried on shorter flights. If I were you, I would skip the milk during and just before the flight, and stick to clear drinks like water or apple juice, which you are better off carrying with you. The reason for this is that if a child feels at all airsick, the presence of dairy in the stomach will almost always make it worse, and you really don't want to have to deal with the smell and difficulty of cleaning up curdled spit-up. (Human milk doesn't usually cause this problem, but since you were asking about the availability of milk, I'm guessing you are not nursing at the moment.)

Also, when flying with a baby you need to be prepared for the possibility of weather delays. Be sure to carry with you *24 hours' supply* of: diapers, baby-suitable food, and 2 changes of clothing (in case of airsickness). You should also carry a change of clothing for the adults, again, in case baby gets sick all over one or both of you. Pack the clothing in gallon ziplocks, in case you have to carry dirties until you arrive at your destination. Also carry wipes, LOTS of wipes.

You don't need a bag for your stroller to gate check. Just push it right up the ramp, fold it up and when you get off the plane it will be right there.

I do not think they serve milk on the plane soda and juices. I have 4 kids so I always pack a little soft sided cooler bag for the plane with some snacks, yougurt and cheesesticks.

At the world I just stick rain ponchos over the stroller. One of the best times we had at AK was in the pouring rain. Everything was soaked, the baby, the stroller. There was no way to keep anything dry but it was our best day there. So don't worry about the rain. Alot of times in Florida they forecast rain everyday even if it just a slight chance. Most times it will rain and the sun will be out 5 minutes later.

Enjoy!

I bought a stoller cover a couple years ago I believe it was $25.00 for my double It rained 4 days straight it was the best investment!!! Fits perfectly over the top vent on sides so they have plenty of ventilation. Fold it up put under neath when it stops or until it starts. Nice to have walking in rsorts or just walking around to get from place to place at resort.

You dont need anything for gate check.

I would buy a rain cover if your stroller did not come with one.

I have never used a stroller bag when gatechecking and I have never had an issue. I know people who have had issues, but I have never personally had a problem.

As far as milk goes, it depends on the airlines. Some airlines do not have milk at all. And many only have it for morning flights. I carry a Horizon milk box just in case, so I know that DD will have at least 8 ounces of milk available.

As far as changing tables go, most airplanes will have one but it is usually VERY small. If you are a brand new aircraft or in a very large plane you have the best odds of getting a decent sized changing table. Ask the flight attendant where the best place to change your child would be.

I just threw a poncho over our stroller when it rained down there and it worked.. We even put 2 pochos together at the sides to make a even bigger cover for the stroller..Our ponchos have snaps on the sides that we were able to connect the 2 together to make it bigger.. U.S.Airways has changing tables in the bathrooms on thier planes.. We always get oj on the plane so they should have milk u probably have to ask for it...

make sure to cover your stroller with something ESPECIALLY when you go on rides. This was a tip we used from someone on here when we were in the parks and it saved us from returning to a soaked stroller many times! The rain isnt like iowa; here it seems like you get plenty of warning with the rain, down there it rained a few times with the sun out! :sunny:

We used a poncho on the last day becuase we forgot the raincover, but if you can still find a raincover i would go for it. they are clear plastic so the kiddos can see through easier, and they have air holes for breathing. I went back and forth on buying one for the trip and i was so glad that i did. it was great to have, even when ds wanted to walk in the rain it gave us a dry place for the video camera :rotfl: I had a kinda hard time finding one here off season, i bought the last one on clearance at Toys R us. Target, Kmart, and Walmart didnt have them here.

i took juiceboxes on the plane with us. i wanted to make sure that i would have SOMETHING for ds to drink in case the plane didnt. i also took bottles for the 'sucking' motion, even though he has been weaned for almost a year. Those gerber fruitsnacks were good for the swallowing too.

I changed my ds in the airport, and then crossed my fingers for the flight :rotfl2: We didnt have any problems at both chicago midway and orlando finding restrooms in the airports. BRING A PAD TO CHANGE THEM ON!!! I forgot one so i was pretty creative (take off their pants, lay them on top of the pants, etc :rotfl: )

Thanks for the tip about covering when on rides.
I too have used pants for a changing pad. :rotfl:

I always seem to be in charge of the potty breaks on the plane. This question reminds me of the contortions I have gone through in changing my kids in the past, me sitting down with them laying across my lap, praying for no turbulence and trying not to drop them! :rotfl2:

Most changing tables on aircraft are not going to be large enough to accomodate a 1 yr-old. If you can't change the child standing up in the w/c, the most common spot is the floor area just outside the aft w/c door; that way you can stand right up and deal with disposing of the diaper and washing up. Obviously, you'll want to bring a large enough changing pad to make this comfortable.

The angle of the average carseat sometimes can contribute to diaper leaks; we used to put DS in an overnight diaper just before flights, and that normally solved the problem.
