Last minute OKW Switch?

Hi all,

Here's something I wanted to throw out there to the group and see what people think... I currently have a week at an off-site timeshare (Sheraton Vistana Villas) 2BR coming up for this Saturday. A last minute OKW 1BR unit just showed up (through timeshare exchange) where, to make a long story short, I could pay about $400 (for the entire week, not per night) and stay at OKW. It's two adults and one child. So I mean a second bathroom would be nice but doesn't seem essential....

Any good reasons why I don't ditch the 2BR off site for the 1BR OKW?

Bonus question: Anyone been to OKW of late to know how things are in terms of packed? I assume it's packed.

Thanks!!

I’d do OKW. I didn’t think I’d like it as much as I do. You get extra hours in the parks sometimes too if you stay at DVC.

I would immediately grab the OKW 1BR. I've stayed at that Sheraton and for me, there is no comparison. The OKW 1BR is huge as is the bathroom. You will get early access into the parks, easy transportation into the parks. And even when the resort is busy, it never feels crowded.

Thanks all, I grabbed it, I have 24 hours to make up my mind for sure, but I'm pretty convinced.

Bonus thanks for anyone on here that uses RCI and knows how to get the confirmation # I'd need to put the reservation into MDE... OOooh and further bonus points if anyone knows if that $190 fee RCI says Disney is going to charge me is for real (and what's up with that? it's in addition to the normal exchange fee..)

The $190 is called the “because they can” fee on the Timeshare Users Group, but if you read the fine print on the email confirmation page Disney will say it covers parking, WiFi, and other resort services. It also adds up to the total of the $95 exchange fee that DVC members had waived when they exchanged out of DVC via RCI plus the $95 inbound exchange fee. So who knows.

Any way, when you get the email confirmation from RCI it will tell you to call DVC at 800-800-9800 to get the Disney confirmation number to link to MDE. If you’re supposed to check in this coming Saturday, I’d confirm the exchange with RCI now so you can call DVC on Thursday and hope they have the information from RCI by then. Be prepared to wait on hold to talk to a person and then for that person to find the RCI information. Tell them you’re calling to get the Disney confirmation code for an inbound RCI exchange.

OKW is a great place for your family - have fun!

If you can, request a unit in building numbered 30 or higher. That will give you a 2nd entrance to the master bath thru the laundry room. Other wise you will need to enter the bath thru the master bedroom

OKW never feels packed even when it is packed. We stayed there in December one year and it was great.

Just want to be sure you know that not all buildings have an elevator at OKW.

The $190 is for real and you will get charged for it when you check in, at least that's the way it worked when we did it 5 or so years ago.

When you confirm, speak to someone at RCI and request an immediate fax and/or email of the confirmation to DVC. Then call DVC promptly to and tell them you've just confirmed but need that reservation # to enter in your My Disney Experience app. Ask them to look for the fax/email and be prepared to be patient as someone searches for it. Have a great time.
