Last minute changes for DVC?

Were suppose to leave friday, and come back next wednesday.

However, got bad news about mom cancer not doing well. So she has a specialist appointment monday. Which cuts the trip short. I can fly back monday morning.

I know if we cancel the days at the end of the trip the points are lost.
Is it even a possibility to move the points and stay thurs night?

Just trying to scramble to re-arrange trip? Its our first dvc stay, so I dont know all the rules.

Thursday will depend upon if there is avilability. Either way I would call now to drop Tues and Wed from the reservation. Those points, by policy, should go into holding status, but given the circumstances, perhaps MS will work with you.

Chuck's advice is correct.

The way the rules work is once you check in all of the points for that stay are gone. So if you just check in as scheduled and say, "Oh by the way, we won't be here the last couple of nights," that's just too bad, so sad.

However, if you cancel the days you will not be there before you arrive, those points are not lost. They should go into holding account, which means they can only be used for ressies 60 days or less out (which is tough, but not impossible.) Holding account happens whenever you cancel a ressie less than 31 days from your scheduled arrival -- but as Chuck said, if you nicely explain your situation, MS may be able to help you.

If MS can let you cancel without any penalty due to the circumstances, you can consider the option of just canceling the whole trip and starting over later.

Worst case scenario, though, you will not completely lose the points unless you just do nothing prior to arrival.

If you change the reservation, what you are really doing is cancelling one reservation inside of 31 days and making another. If DVC has availability, you can do that. Since you were planning to stay Fri and Sat nights, if you switch you dates without using any weekend nights, you may end up with points left over. If you do, those points will be in holding account because they are the result of a ressie cancelled inside 31 days.

A lot will depend on how flexible you are with your dates and accommodations. MS will do all they can to help you, but they're not magicians. If they don't have availability, they don't have availability.

Great news we can switch to the earlier dates. NOw i just have to switch everything else, at least southwest doesn't charge for changes


I would consider canceling, but mom has stage 4 cancer, so ups and downs happen, at least I have all my research together and organized for the monday appointment.
