Last minute availability

Hi folks! DH and I have recently decided to purchase DVC resale (yay!). Right now I'm watching the contracts and waiting to find exactly what we want since there is no rush to purchase. We currently have reservations at the Dolphin end of Sept/beginning of October. If we can find a contract and purchase with 2013 points available in the next couple of months, I would rather put that cash toward the DVC purchase and book with points. So, let's say worst case example, if we didn't find a contract and start the process until early July, that would probably put us at early-mid September for booking, just a few weeks before check-in...are SSR or OKW rooms typically available even that last minute? Of course, there could be cancellations anywhere, but I wouldn't count on it to get my dates and I'm not a fan of split stays, like to unpack and stay put.

Chances would be pretty slim for end of Sept into early Oct especially since its Food and Wine time, but never say never!

I just made a reservation for the beginning of October. I couldn't get a full week ANYWHERE and am doing a split stay at VWL/BVW/SSR.

It depends on when and what size you want. I was checking this morning for 10/20-10/24 for 1BR and SSR was available for all four nights.

But that is today. Add six to eight weeks and it isn't going to look too good. Plus inventory will probably already be given over to Disney Reservation Center at 60 days out.

Within 60 days, a last minute reservation, - is this not possible? Does all the inventory go back to disney to rent out. I would love to rent dvc points from an owner but am usually interested in last minute bookings.

I would rather use my home resorts points at my home resort booking 11 months out to guarantee that I get what I want. Taking a trip and spending all that money staying in left over inventory isn't worth it to me.

I would not worry greatly about this. My wife and I did a last minute trip at this time last year. We were able to get five nights dvc only two weeks out. First night was a studio at BLT, the last four were a one bedroom at Saratoga Springs.

Empty rooms are made available to CRO (Disney Reservation Center) at 60 days. But they can also still be booked for points. I once got a night at BCV one week ahead.

Availability is pretty limited for October, November & December except for SSR. I couldn't find 5 nights together (except SSR).

Since a member could get stuck with the reservation if they booked something for you at 30 days out, most won't do it.

DVC is a timeshare, not a hotel.

Got them online. We were able to get the four at Saratoga in one block, and when I checked later that week the studio at BLT was available the day before so I booked that too. We even did a one day deluxe dining plan with the studio night, Narcosse's one night and Sanaa the next.
5 nights during F&W, booked 2 weeks before arrival. Enjoyed ourselves immensely, took things slow, didn't ride a single ride. All we did was spend a week with each other before my wife started a new job.

DW and I several times have been at DTD for the day and decided we wanted to stay the night. Called the resorts directly (back before MS was open on Sundays) or MS and checked in within 15 minutes.
