Hello - Well we are leaving early Sunday morning so I have to finish packing tomarrow and have a few questions:

1. Can you control the temp. in your stateroom? I have read it can be cold...is that true? I am traveling with a baby and toddler who kicks covers off and wondering if I should pack their winter footed PJ's (that is what they wear at the grandparents house when they sleep over since my dad keeps his house really cold with central air...)

2. Does DCL provide paper/crayons for the little ones in the dinning room or should I plan to bring something to entertain DD at mealtimes?

3. I know Disney owns ABC and will have this channel on the TV but does DCL TV have the other major TV channels (CBS & NBC) Normally while on vacation I would not watch much TV but since I am traveling with small children, I expect to be speding time in the room in the afternnoon for naps and early evenings...plus the BIG BROTHER finale is this week on CBS...

Thanks for your help!!!!

i'll try my best:
1. i did not see a thermostat control in the staterooms so i guess that means you cannot control the temp yourself.
2. disney provides a coloring activity with crayons at the dinner table, complete with their colorful disney-themed menu.
3. on our last cruise, i was surprised to see so many nice and new movies playing on the stateroom TV. they have CNN and lots of cartoon channels (disney of course). i am not too sure about CBS or NBC.

hope this helps!

1. Yes you can control the temp in your room. There is a thermostat on the wall. If you have any issues you can call guest services and they will help regulate it to your request.
2. I do recommend taking additional activities to the table. Dinners can be very long and the youngs one get quite BORED sitting.
3. Dependng where you - the ship picks up different stations. I would not count on the ability to watch Big Brother. Besides that is at night and you do not want to be in your cabin in the evening. Too much going on. I recommend you record it.

Have a Fantabulous Trip.

Yes, there is a thermostat control in your room. Our stateroom host helped us with it. We like it cool!
There are different channels depending on where the ship is. Remember all the shows come in via satellite so weather and the ships position can affect it. I recall ABC, CNN Headline News, ESPN, the Disney channel, Disney cartoons and several movie channels. I watched some very nice movies when I was 'under the weather'. A nice selction of Disney movies were on. There is a schedule of what movies are on and when. Most of the movies play over at various times throughout the cruise. :3dglasses

Just a quick note to add to the above posts. When you change the thermostat it does not change the temperature quickly. It is radiant heat and so it does take time to adjust to the new settings. Just so you wont think it's not working when it doesnt get warmer right away.

go ahead and pack those footie jammies! i say this because sometimes the kid's body temps differ from the adults. i tend to need my stateroom on the cool side, but my kids are more comfortable with it warmer. the footie jammies solves the problem for everyone.

an etchascetch is a great addition at the dinner table (no muss/no fuss).

disney offers alot more channels than most of the lines-but just to be safe ask a friend to tivo big brother for you!

have a great time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for all the quick answers to my questions!!!!

Well, after packing all day (literally) We are ready to go!!! Footsie jammies are packed for the kiddos and we don't have an etch-a-sketch but the Sesame Street Magna Doodle is in the travel bag (but at least I know that I did not have to pack crayons)

As per Big Brother...I am Tivo'ing it but I figured with two little ones, I may be in the stateroom early and was hoping I may catch it live. Hopefully my babies will be able to stay awake late on the cruise without too many meltdowns!!!

Two years ago we travelled the week of the Survivor finale, and I was so glad I Tivo'd it because CBS was not available at all on the ship.

Thanks for all your wonderful advice. We are back from our trip and I am glad I had Tivo because NBC & CBS was not available on the ship (ABC was but then Disney owns that channel) Also, I was glad I packed HEAVY footsie PJs for the kids because it was cold in the room even though we had a thermostat.

Just noticed this thread but Lisa we were on the same cruise as you! Wasnt it great!

Hi Amanda -

We definately had a great time...My only wish was that I had booked a 7 day because 4 days was too short. It seemed like we just arrived and got the kids in a sort of vacation routine and it was time to come home... I can't wait till we go back when the kids get a bit older so we can have some 'adult time' and RELAX!!!! Although DH and I are now planning an Alaskan Cruise for 2007 (without the kids)

On the 9/17 magic, category 8:

1. Yes, there was a temperature control on the wall, it worked very well.
2. Yes, the kids got crayons every night (and there are activities on the kids menu, which is different every night
3. No, the only channels you can reasonably count on having are discovery, ESPN, CNN, Disney, and various disney movie channels. The others will vary. (there are also several channels about the cruise itself).

Glad to hear you had a great trip! And glad you bumped this to page one, as I had questions about room temperture control. How did that work for you

Would you mind answering another question for me? The telephones that are in the staterooms.......are they like hotel phones?....can you leave a voice message for another cruiser?.....can you record your own greeting on your room's phone? I'm trying to talk a friend into going, and it looks like we could end up on different levels of the ship, so we may be doing a lot of phone communicating.

I'm hoping to cruise in January, and am glad my 'must not miss' program is on ABC....LOST....but I probably won't be in the room to watch it ;)

Thanks for your help.

The room temp worked out fine. The bed was nice and comfy and warm so we tended to keep the room on the cool side and just bundle up the kids for bed. We did turn the AC down because it was REALLY COLD the first night. The temp control was easy to use but it was just a dial that you turned down for colder & up for warmer...there was no actual temp reading.

As per the phones, I am not sure how much I can help you with that since we really did not use it. It looked like a hotel phone since we did use the 'room service' button a few times and the 'wake up' call button to get our morning call from Mickey (be warned, Mickey called 3-4 times to wake us up)

We did get a few messages from CM about our Ressies so I assume since the CM could leave messages for us, you would be able to leave messages for another cruiser. I am not about personalizing the outgoing message though...

As per the TV, I would not have even cared except for the fact that with two little ones, we did end up going back to the room early and spent quite a bit of time in the cabin for naps, ect... There was always something good on TV though when we wanted to watch it!

Thanks for your help.

You can leave messages in someone else's room, and there is "hotel-like" voicemail, but I'm not sure if you can customize messages.

You might want to consider two-way radios, we had them and they worked pretty well, though sometimes it broke up if my wife was in our room (6th floor, forward), and I was at the Mickey pool.
