BTW - Texas is considering starting school after Labor Day - Those of you who have this school year, how do you like it?? Pros/cons??

We have always started right after Labor day...even when I was a kid. To us, that's normal.....LOVE it The kids are still in shorts here till October for the most part and yet fall festivals start happening and it just seems the right time to start school.

Haha.. I live right outside of New Orleans, but I'm close enough to visit The Big Easy. I mainly only go to Six Flags New Orleans when I visit. SFNO is just not as good as Disney though. haha

In the UK we finish July 27th, and go back September 2nd! We get 1 week in October, 2 weeks at Xmas, 1 week in February,2 weeks at Easter, and 1 week in June, hence shorter Summer vacations.

It's amazing to see all the different start and finish dates. We started school Sept. 1st last fall and finish on June 7th. We used to start the 3rd week of August and got out in May, but the Wisconsin Dept. of Tourism changed that!!

Our last day for students is June 10. We had a lot of snow days this year so it pushed it up quite a bit. We usually return to school around August 15.

Chicago Public Schools get out June 17th. We go back the tuesday after labor day. We didn't use any snow days this year, so they might give us one as an appreciation day at the end of the year. We also take just about every holiday and day off during the year that is possible.

Most all school systems have about the same amount of school days in a year, they just have different variations of holidays and vacations, ususally driven by weather, and tourism in their area.

That's true for Texas - We are mandated to begin no sooner than the 3rd week of Aug (I believe) which is tourism driven so that gives us an earlier out. However, May 26th is the earliest last day that I can recall. In the past we have gone to the first day or two of June, often coming back to school for only a couple of days after Memorial Day.

BTW 180 days of school is the requirement, if I remember correctly. So to tie this in to this forum...an earlier out will hopefully give us lower crowd levels at the park when we're there just prior to Memorial Day weekend.
