Hi everyone,

Checking in with DIS on our last day here at DLR. I don't think I've seen Halloweenqueen or anybody in neon green ear hats :)

I am loving off season... and oh man, did I pick the best week to leave Chicago and come to California. I hear we are having a winter storm back in Chitown tomorrow. Weather this whole week has been great, we've been strolling around the parks without jackets/sweaters on except at night, and just light sweater/fleece if at all.

One thing I didn't account for with this trip was the time difference. In WDW, we've always been late risers. By the time everyone wakes up, eats breakfast and dresses up, its already 10am and we still have to catch the bus to the parks. Here in DLR, with the 2 hour time difference, my kids have been waking up around 6:30-7am (much to my chagrin), and they are dead to the world around 7-8pm (which is their normal bed time). Since the parks open 10-8pm, it is perfect.

The crowd level is awesome. Not empty, but also not the zoo I remember back in summer. As guests of 2 DLR hotels, we have 18 FREE special fast passes and I have NOT used a single one. Our rides are mostly walk on rides with the longest wait around 10 mins. The longest we had to wait in line was 30 mins and that is for the Tangled Meet & Greet - and we have to have THAT as she's the only princess left that my girls haven't met. I have Soarin FPs that went unused, and used 2 of the 4 FPs for Star Tours.

At the last minute, I decided to make autograph books for the kids from the DIS designers. They are such a big hit! The characters love seeing their own picture on the pages. Those on the line who see it always ask, "where did you get it?" Next time though, I have to bring extra, extra blank ones! I have printed some generic ones but since I used those for USH, I ran out of them at DLR :)

Mini TR
On Monday, 1/16, we went to DL to watch the Fireworks and got there early enough to eat, wander around Main Street and see the parade. But since the kids are sleepy after the parade (it's our travel day, so they've been up awhile and refused to nap once we got here), I had to agree to bring them back to the hotel. We had a great view of WoC from our Concierge Theme Park view at PPH which we saw at 8:00pm, then I walked back from PPH to DL to catch the 8:40pm RDCT and STILL got a good spot on the hub in front of the castle. I then walked into DCA to try and catch the 9:15pm WoC (with no FP) so I stayed on the bridge on the left and still saw it (the projections not clearly, but saw them).

Tuesday was spent at USH. And boy, was I glad I moved our hotel from the Hilton at Universal City to PPH because traffic from USH to DLR was horrible!

Wednesday - Kids were up really early today so we headed to DL ~9:15am, our very first rope drop! We started Wed with TTMM, and got all of the Fab6 phautographs done there + RRCTS and GGC rides. I had to drag my kids away from Toontown though or we'll be there all day,as it was, it was almost noon when we left! We did the Storyland boats before heading on to Tomorrowland to ride Nemo but the kids were hungry so we sat down at Tomorrowland Terrace to eat, and was just in time to catch the next Jedi Training Academy show (12:40pm). I grabbed us Star Tours FPs while here. We were able to do Nemo, Autopia (no FP, longest wait of the day, ~10mins), BLAB. X and I rode Space (walk on) and Star Tours (wait then was 40 min, so I was glad for our earlier FPs!) while hubby brought YZ on Astro Orbitor (which they rode 3x). I again have to pull my kids away from Astro Orbitor because it's already 5pm and we have only done TT and Tomorrowland. We have 5 more lands to go, I was getting worried! :) We crossed over to Adventureland so X and I can do Indy while YZ did Tarzan's Treehouse (3x). X wanted to do Jungle Cruise but I can't find it and found Pirates instead. It was another walk on so we did that too. By this time, the kids are hungry again so it's time for dinner. Since we were near Frontierland, I wanted to try the BBQ at BT Ranch, but it was closed, Doh! So we went on further, into Fantasyland but Village Haus food ain't gonna cut it (YZ only eats hotdogs and/or chicken). YZ saw Dumbo and the Carousel, and miraculously forgot they were hungry so X and I did Mr. Toad and Snow White. At this point, the kids are getting sleepy and hungry (it is ~6:45pm after all). We head on back to TT because it was the closest place with hotdogs only to find it closed too! IaSW was a walk-on, so I told them we might as well go to IaSW and after we got out, it was exactly 7pm, time for the parade! I had preferred parade viewing but it was too late to cross the street to it (and we already watched this from a good spot last Monday, so it wasn't a big deal). Hubby really wanted to go back to hotel after the parade, but I persuaded him to stay and wait for MMY at 7:45pm. YZ didn't wait and fell asleep on the stroller. X was barely making it. MMY was beautiful and we went back to VGC afterwards. I was hoping to take the monorail from TL to DTD but it was closed too (we just missed the last train apparently).

Thursday - as usual the kids are up at 6:30 again! We have Magic Morning today and was at DL just past 9am (lines were longer today than yesterday) so no rope drop for us today. At the entrance were the usual characters but we have most of them yesterday from TT, and Queen of Hears, White Rabbit, Pinnochio and Geppeto. We then went straight to Fantasyland to do the rest of the rides we missed yesterday starting with Peter Pan which was going fast (the line later was looong). YZ saw Dumbo again, so X and I did Pinnocchio and Snow White. I was surprised Casey Jr train wasn't open during Magic Morning, so we wait the 2 mins for 10am to ride it. No way in hell am I riding the Tea cups, so I steer us around that into the Alice ride and then Pixie Hollow where we saw Tink and Rosetta. We went around the front of the castle because I can't seem to find the entrance to the Sleeping Beauty Castle walkthru. I asked a walking CM and she told me there is no such thing! That I can "walk thru" the middle lane and look into the two rooms on the left and right. I explained to her that I thought there was a castle tour where you go up and see holograms of the story, and she told me, there is no such thing! So anyway, we were about to follow her direction to just walk "thru" the castle when I saw Aurora on the left side of the castle so we ran after her, but missed her... BUT because we followed her on that path, I finally saw the entrance to the Castle tour as we went past that doorway. Thanks Aurora!

After that, Fantasyland is done! I purposely left the Princesses for Friday if we have time because my girls have already met all the princesses before. It's around lunchtime, and my kids are reminding me that they are hungry. I wanted to try for the BBQ again since we have to go to Critter country anyway. They are open - yay! but my kids won't eat anything from there. The nearest chicken place is - The Golden Horseshoe - but lookie here, it's the perfect time to eat lunch and watch the Billy Hill and the Hillbillies (12:15pm) show! After lunch, X and I did BTMR while YZ rode the Mark Twain. I find it always funny that by the time X and I did our thing, Hubby and YZ are also done (or almost done) with their thing, so not a lot of waiting for each other. That concluded our Frontierland agenda, so on we go to Critter Country, Splash Mountain and Winnie the Pooh! Splash was a walk on, and we met Eeyore, Tigger and Pooh at the character area. Before we left, we rode the Pooh ride. I think that completed our DL agenda, so it's time to go to DCA. But X won't let us leave without riding Jungle Cruise (remember I got lost yesterday and how embarassing it was to see it right there beside Indy). YZ was at the treehouse again while they waited for us, and didn't want to leave quite yet. I checked out the oasis and saw that Aladdin and Jasmine was still there, so I called the hubby to bring YZ over to get their phautographs. After that we REALLY have to go over to DCA. On our way out, we saw Marry Poppins and Bert and got their phautographs. At DCA, we caught the Disney Jr Live Show. We saw this show at WDW 2 years ago when it was still Playhouse Disney and I was wondering if it's the same. Well, it was almost entirely the same, except Jake replaced Pooh's segment. We got Handy Manny's phautograph, saw Sully (who doesn't sign) and missed the line cut off. We also caught Phineas and Ferb's rock and rollin' dance party and that was fun because my girls were into it and participated! On our way there, we saw McQueen and Mater. We did Little Mermaid (walk on) and had some more time before we have to catch our 7:10 appt at Goofy's Kitchen. So, we head over to "A Bug's Land" as I left hubby with YZ there while X and I ride ToT. They did ChewChew Train, Lady Bugs and the buggies and talked me into doing the LadyBug (again) and Flyers. After that it was about 6:30pm and I was too tired to walk all the way to DLH. Went back to VGC and asked if they could give us a ride to DLH for our dinner appointment. They did... yay! We went to GK for dinner and food was great, my kids were in food heaven. We saw Goofy, Pluto, Chip and Dale, Fairy Godmother and Snow White. Z was asleep before we left, Y was on sugar rush but fell asleep on our walk back and X was sleepy but had to brave thru it because she has to walk with us.

Still reading?...
Congrats to you! If that long litany of rambling sentences didn't bore you to death, maybe you can help me out :) We have 1 more DAY! I think most of tomorrow will be spent at DCA. X has been wanting to ride Soarin, so I told her we'll do it at 9:15am tomorrow when the park opens for guests and we get our WoC FPs. We'll then hit Paradise Pier and probably stay there for most of the morning. We can finally use those hotel FPs (they don't have a return time, you can use them immediately) if needed but I highly doubt it In the afternoon, we'll prob catch Aladdin and look for characters at the Hollywood backlot area.

Questions
  • Did I miss anything big?
  • Does anyone know if the Kodak PhotoGallery CD still has the discounted/free Photopass CD coupon? I am planning to buy the CD

Friday. This is our check out day at VGC so X and I entered DCA at 9:30 to get WoC FPs and ride Soarin' while DH packs. We got 2 Blue FPs and I asked the CM there what will happen if DH gets Yellow FPs for the rest of our party since he's up packing. He said that don't worry they will make sure to keep families together. I clarified/asked if they'll be in the Blue too, and he said yes. So instead of going back to my room and switching with DH so he can get the other 2 WoC FPs, I was satisfied with the CM reply and left him to pack, and proceeded to Soarin' (BIG MISTAKE!). X and I walked into Soarin' and did 2 quick rides (front row left and front row right) before the park opened at 10am. At 10am we went back to our room so I can help DH finish packing and was out of the room and into the parks at 10:45am. DH got 2 Yellow FPs so I head over to the supervisor CM to get us together and he wants to switch MY blue FPs to Yellow FPs. I tried to argue that they "told" me they will give us Blue but super said we will get the "current tickets" and won't budge. It's a good thing we also had WoC dining PS at Ariel's Grotto. We crossed to Paradise Pier hoping to get Duffy's phautograph on the way, but it was not quite 11am yet, so we just went straight into Toy Story. My kids have TSMM Wii game so I know they will loooove this ride even though Y was hesitant at first because it will be dark. We ended up riding this 2x (about 15-20 min wait each time) before I have to drag them away. But first I had to promise we will ride it one more time before we go home at night. I was looking for TS characters so I asked a CM and was told Woody will be out in about 20 mins so we rode Mickey's Fun Wheel and they all wanted to ride the "Swinging" gondola (which was a longer wait). I thought they would be scared, but they actually loved this one too! After the fun wheel, we had our phautograph with Woody and continued walking around paradise pier. I took X and Y on the jumping jellyfish and Y loved this so much we had to do it 3 or 4x. After that I took X to Goofy's Sky School and I actually used our special FPs twice because we haven't used it at all! The kids are now hungry and we've done pretty much everything we wanted around paradise pier so we headed back to Hollywood Backlot - but first I wanted to check on Duffy again, but it was 1:45pm so he won't be back til 2pm! *Sigh*, I guess no Duffy this time around. We had our lunch at Award Wieners where the kids can get hotdogs, while I got ribs/chicken from Taste Pilot's Grill (and walked with my tray all the way back :). While there we got Jake, Mr Incredible and Sully's phautographs too (actually, Sully doesn't sign which is a bummer). At 3pm, we watched Disney's Dance Crew, then the 3:25pm Pixar Pals parade. After that we went inside Disney Animation and was amazed at the Zoetrope and caught the 4pm Animation Academy where we drew Dale! I used my preferred seating tickets just so I can use them. Then, its time to head over to the Hyperion for Ariel's 4:45pm showing - used our preferred seating tickets there too. After that, it was time to head back to Ariel's Grotto for our 6pm dining reservation. We finished at 7:30pm and headed into a packed reserved area for WoC. I fortunately found 1 spot for X and I on the middle railing, sweet! But DH and YZ had to stay by the ropes in the Wet zone. After a few minutes of waiting, Y and Z are asleep so they didn't really see the show.

So, what do you do if 2-3 minutes into the show, your DD tells you, "Mommy, I have to go potty!" OMG! I felt like such a bad mom for telling her to hold it in knowing that the show is 26 mins long. But hold it she did, I was so proud of her. After the show, I yelled at DH that we need to go potty, and ran like Dash out of there. I asked a CM where the nearest one is, and while she said by the LM ride, it will also be full, so she recommended we go to the one beside the Asian rest. at Pacific Wharf. I fortunately know where that is exactly coz we went there to check out their menu for lunch, so we sprint over there and barely made it... Whew! That was stressful!

Y was still sleeping when we got back and I debated on whether we should wake her up for my TSMM promise. DH said to just go back to the hotel and leave so we did. While getting the kids and luggage in the car, Y woke up and wanted to do TSMM, and I told her the park closed while she was asleep. She cried at that, and the knowledge that she's going home tomorrow. It was so sad :(

Sounds like a magical time to me!
Thanks for making the off-season sound so enjoyable. We might be there in early Nov, between H'ween and Christmas, and I wondered how much we could really see and do with such shorter park hours. I bet my crowd-disliking DH will like to hear about the relative emptiness. I like to hear about the chance to see shows like the fireworks or parade without waiting for two hours to get a good spot when I have kids 2-7yo!

WOW! Talk about a whirlwind trip (or at least TR! :lmao:) I think I'm tired just from reading everything you did! So great to hear you had a great visit.

That Jungle Cruise can hide if you don't look closely! :goodvibes

I'm so glad you posted! We are heading there on Tuesday and I have no idea what to expect as far as wait times so it's nice to hear they aren't long.

At the Embassy Suites South, near LAX and woke up to rain. It looks wet outside, but sunny but I don't actually see any rain. We were planning to spend our morning at USH (use our free 2nd day entry) but decided to just stay at the hotel and swim because of the rain.

I will update the original post with our Day 3 mini-TR.

Hi! I love your mini trip report! We have a similar style. ;)

The "free special fast passes" you mention... What are these?

Thanks!

For each guest of the hotel, they give an FP that's good for 2 uses. You put them in the FP machine and it will give you an FP that you can use immediately (the return time is NOW), and even if the FP is gone, it will still give you one. As long as the ride is giving FPs you can use it. In WDW, we used these all for TSMM. I wish TSMM had FPs, we could have used them all on that!

We have 18 because we had 1 day stay at PPH (so that gave us 8), and a 1 BR for 5 people for VGC (so we had 10 for that one). I wasn't expecting the VGC passes actually, so that was a nice surprise.

Oh cool! I had not heard of this! We just got back from POFQ and received no Fps during our stay. Perhaps its just certain properties, or ... ?

Wonderful trip report! I enjoyed reading all of it. We've survived the yucky weather in Chicago this week and can't wait for our trip to DL in a few short days!

I am wondering about how those fast passes were given out. Was it at check in?

It was given out at check-in and is a promotion they're running. So it's prob not available all the time. I was expecting it at PPH because it was on the site when I booked. Didn't expect my DVC reservation to get them too.

They were prob giving them out because they know it will useless with the crowd levels they had that week :)
