Last Cruise Before Dry Dock - Any Thoughts?

Thanks previous poster.

I e-mailed and asked disney re dry dock post trans atlantic westbound

Here is the reply.

Dear Lynne,

Thank you for your interest in another Disney Cruise Line vacation!

I would be happy to assist with your request.

As you know, a ship goes into dry-dock for a Regulatory Safety check
approximately every 2 - 2 1/2 years.

The Disney Magic took care of her Regulatory Safety check in September
of 2008. At this time, we do not have the dates for the next time she
will be going into dry-dock.

I hope this information has been helpful. If you require further
assistance in planning your visit, please feel free to contact us.

We look forward to sailing with you again!

Have a Magical Day!

Well then I wonder what they have planned between 10/2 and 10/16/2010? A 7-night Western, starting on 10/16, is the first cruise available for booking after the WB TA.

In Dec 07 we ask Capt Henry when we should expect to see one of the ships back in dry dock in Norfolk Va where we live. He stated that the ships rotate every Sept so in Sept 08 the Magic was there everyday for me to see as I drove into work.
The company I work for is VERY popular with the crew and they come in everyday when they are done working on the ship and it is so much fun because you get to know them and then plan on seeing them when we sail in Dec! I get a little Pixie Dust everyday for 2 weeks as I sit in traffic and stare at the beautiful ship pining to be on it in Dec!!

I am wondering if the new ships will be contracted with the same company! That would be so cool!:cool1:

LOL! Pretty funny since if you look at the cruises that are offered it is obvious that there are NO cruises booked on the Magic for the two weeks after the WBTA. I doubt that they will just be letting it sit at PC empty for that time. ;)

Obviously, but they could squeeze in specials like they did last year at the begining or end of the 2 weeks. :confused3
Not a lot you can do though if they shimmy the question.;)

I don't think they want another post dry dock cruise like that one where it was obvious that they should not have shortened the time since they didn't have a chance to do basic stuff like make sure the pools had clean water in them. ;)

We were also on the 5 night special cruise just before the Magic went into dry dock. This also happened to be our first ever cruise. We were on deck 6 and they replaced the carpet on the landing and on the stairs. I also smelled fresh paint at times. The service we received on the Magic was outstanding. The only slight issue was that they started to strip all the table clothes and started to stack chairs and tables while people were still having breakfast. This took a little bit of the magic away. By the time we had our cases and were outside the terminal building, containers had appeared on deck 9, which was also kind of sad.

As a comparison, the day after we got off the Magic, we got on the Wonder for a 4 night cruise. The service was also very good (after a disastrous first dinner), but not in the same same league as on the Magic. If anything the Wonder was showing more minor wear and tear then the Magic did. There was also maintenance going on while we were on the Wonder. The were patching up the paintwork on the outside of the ship while we were docked at Nassau and Castaway Cay. I have also been told that they have a rolling maintenance programme and that you can run into things like carpets being replaced or paintwork being patched up (internal and external) on any cruise.

So, would I go on the last cruise before dry dock again? Absolutely! Indeed I am pretty sure this is just what I am doing on the WB Transatlantic. There is no other logical explanation for the gap in the schedule. Would I go on the first cruise after dry dock? Probably not as I would expect some problems and teething troubles.

When we went on the wonder post dry dock the pool was closed for the 1st 24 hours because of this and it was not a squeezed in cruise and ps why are we winking at each other?;) :rotfl:

There is no cruise available to be booked for the Magic starting on 10/2/10 when our cruise returns to Port Canaveral, so odds are good for a dry dock immediately following the WBTA.
Learn something new everyday. I didn't even know that. Considering it's mentioned in this thread no cruises from 10/2 to 10/16- I think it's pretty obvious they are leaving those times open to do dry dock.. although their plans could change obviously. But the timing also adds up.
Guess I'll be on a cruise before dry dock. :rotfl:

We're first time cruisers and will be on the Wonder Oct 25th. Looks like that will be the 2nd cruise post dry dock. Should I be concerned or do you think they'll have any possible kinks worked out by then?

New to disboards and love getting all this great advice.

I am sure it will be fine.
