Lasik

I had mine done almost 4 years ago now and am so glad I finally did. I had chickened out on a previous attempt. The 2nd time, I made sure they kept me away from any tv screens showing other people getting it done. Once I looked at those, I started freaking out. I had to just breathe deep and not think about it (the valium helped too!).

One thing I cannot stress enough is to do all of your eye drops! I got a bit lazy on mine and I ended up with one eye not as strong as the other due to dryness in the healing process. I could go back for an enhancement, but I'm still a big chicken!!

Really? Mine cost $4600!

Best $4,600 I ever spent, had it done back in 2005. I just wish I could have had it done when I was in my 20's and I played sports all the time. I never wore contacts, so wearing sports goggles was a major PITA!!

dh had it many years ago when we had to go to canada to get it done and it still is great!

Had it done several years ago. Thought it was good. A year or so later, decided it was one of the worse decisions of my life.

Hope you don't wind up feeling like me!

I would love to be able to get it done but when I went in for a consult several years ago I was told that my pupils were too large and that my corneas were too thin. So I shall continue wearing glasses for the rest of my life. sigh :lmao: I can't imagine being able to wake up and see. And especially now since I get up several times during the night to tend to DD it would be nice to not put my glasses on and off multiple times! Maybe technology will change and I will get to be a candidate.

Congrats OP I bet it is an amazing feeling!
You should consider checking into it again. They make advances all the time. You may now be a good candidate.

My DH surprised me with a Lasik consult for our anniversary in 2000- best gift ever! My vision is perfect today. I am glad I went into it not knowing that much- I don't think I could have it again because I think I would freak out! The one thing that stands out for me is the smell  during the procedure- like a burning smell??? Yuck!

Very timely post! My husband is having this done next week. Seems the majority are thrilled with the results.

Random question, how nearsighted were you (all of you guys who had LASIK) before the surgery (in diopters)?

Just curious - my eye doc thinks I am not a good candidate because I am extremely nearsighted (-9.5) and my corneas are very thin. But I have heard mixed things from others.

I would love to get it done eventually... my vision is fuzzy in my glasses, and my contacts make my eyes hurt. Blech!

Before I was 20/220 and 20/240. Now I'm 20/25.

Dh had it done in 2004. Before the surgery he couldn't see a thing without his glasses. He sees great now and hasn't regretted it for even a second! DS7 is considered legally blind with his strong Rx. I hope he can get the surgery when he's old enough.

I was -9.5 but had no trouble with corneal thickness.

post op day 4. My eye sight is so clear, its amazing. Only trouble is my right eye lid is semi swollen.
Did anyone that have lasik use restatis? I'm suppose to start them today and they burn! I don't really have dry eyes so Im not sure if they are worth using since they are for dry eyes.

Sorry, blueirish, can't give you any advice on the swollen eyelid, but I just want to say I'm glad your vision is great! I had very bad eyesight before Lasik and after 10 years, I still wake up thankful every morning that I can see. My son was about the same, and I gave him Lasik for his college graduation in preparation for his career in law enforcement. He says it would be very difficult for him otherwise, especially with his seasonal allergies.

Hope the swelling clears up!

Thanks! Things are clearing up. And that was a great gift for your son, The perfect eye sight will help him in the academy and his career.
