Lasik Eye Surgery

Best money I ever spent on myself! I am 8 years out and need a touch up on one eye. I had severe astigmatism that was corrected. Never had a problem. Unasked about long term and what if I needed cataract surgery at some time and they told me that there is not an issue with it.

A friend of my husband has done it and he raves about the results!

I asked my optometrist, who has had it done herself, and she was less enthusiastic. It was wonderful while it lasted but she was needing glasses again after only a few years. She said there just isn't anyway to tell if you're going to do well with it long-term or if it will be an on-going process of fixes.

She's decided to not do the surgery again.

I can't get over the fact that it's my eyes. If something goes wrong- it's MY EYES! LOL! I would pay for my son to do it if he wanted though.

I had it done 9 years ago. I had amazing vision from the time I sat up on the exam table. My eyes were horrible before. A -8.00 or something. I went 7 years without glasses, but now need to wear them for low light and driving conditions. My prescription is uneven, and I have astigmatism in one eye again (in both prior to surgery), so I end up wearing my glasses all the time because its easier. I also had to have a touch up 6 months after the initial surgery. All eyes regress after, so they try to over correct initially so the regression leaves you with 20/20 vision.

You should know that while the surgery "resets" your vision, it doesn't stop it from changing. So if you're a -5.00 now, and you'll be a -7.00 when you die, you'll still be a -2.00 with the surgery because it doesn't cure what you're eyes are going to do naturally.

I'm disappointed it didn't last longer, but I couldn't even see my alarm clock prior. I can still play with my son in the pool with no glasses and see him great. And I didn't have to worry about glasses when he was a baby. I can also wear cute, fun glasses I couldn't before because my prescription was too large. My Dr also says I have a "good" prescription because I shouldn't have to wear reading glasses.

I'm having lasik on Tuesday! So excited, yet so incredibly nervous!

It's a piece of cake! You won't feel anything other than some pressure. For a minute, you can't see anything. A minute later, you can see just fine! If you wear glasses now, you won't need them at the end of the surgery.

Thanks! So ready to ditch the glasses, lol. I have a trip to WDW 10 days post-op, so I'm really hoping to be fully recovered by then. I have polarized sunglasses, so I think I'll be ok.

Thanks for all the responses!! I had an eye appt yesterday and my dr suggested that I have a consultation with the 3 well known places in this area to see which I prefer and feel more comfortable with. The places are Cincinnati Eye Institute, Lasik Plus, and I can't remember the name of the other one, I need to look it up. The best part is, I checked my insurance and it covers 85%!! My eye sight did slightly improve but the one eye is still in the -7 range. The dr said I'm at a good age to get it, I'm 30, because generally your eyes are not going to get bad as fast plus she said you want to get them done atleast at least 10 years or so before your 40's when you might need to start wearing reading glasses. I've been wearing contacts for 18 yrs so I think it's about time I get Lasik!!
